tricks, glitches & tactics used in the run:

skitterdashing: hold forward, keep the camera at a slight horizontal angle, and repeatedly tap strafe left/right.

what this does: this gives small speed boots in the form of short diagonal jolts (dashes). as frodo this is 30% faster then first person mode, and with the remaining characters it can be up to 70% faster with the correct timing.

ranged attack cancelling: as aragorn/frodo, hold ranged attack and repeatedly press block to interrupt the shooting animation.

this this does: by interrupting the shooting animation directly after a projectile is launched you can rapidfire arrows at at least 3x normal speed. this is primarily used against the trolls in both aragorn sections trolls and the final boss.

trout%: in the last level of the game there are 3 hidden encounters with gollum in the area before the first trolls. after meeting him all 3 times aragorn will be awarded with a large fish, replacing his sword. this fish deals increased damage, killing all but trolls and bosses in one hit. sadly acquiring this weapon takes too much time to be effective in a run as it is only used against the last boss.


what fps does any why there are 3 categories:

in this game the framerate directly relates to game speed. as such a game running at a higher then normal framerate can perform up to, but not limited to, twice the normal speed. since this is entirely bound by hardware and varies strongly from run to run, i have opted to create two framelocked categories.

how to framelock your game:

to achieve a framerate equal to your monitors refresh rate: go into your graphics driver options and force vsync for the game. this will typically net you 60fps unless higher hz monitors are used.

to lock the game at 30, or 60 when using a monitor that supports more then that: employ a video recording software like fraps (only active when recording) or dxtory (active at all times even when not used to record the game).
