When running Black Fountain, the game has a tendency to crash, especially on the Switch version. The likelihood of crashes seems to be greatly reduced if you avoid trying to move during loading times. This should make it possible to finish Black Fountain runs on Switch with some consistency. This hasn't been tested on PS4, so it could apply there too.
