Moderator Application & Discussion on H3VR runs

Howdy hotdog shooters,

I hope you all are having a good May and I hope for everyones better June!

As you can see from the title I am looking for a (or some) new moderator(s) to help me moderate runs within H3VR. Mainly I am looking for 3 different runners to help me. One member who mainly runs and specializes in Take and Hold, One who specializes in Bullshoot, and lastly, One who specializes in Return of the Rotwieners. If you would like to assist me in moderating this board, please send me a dm here on the speedrun.com website.

Next up a few questions regarding the runs of RofTR was brought up to me by user HOTdOGRs. Those being:

  1. "Regarding the all quest route, does that included unlocking the basement of the church, and completing the red lumberjack quest. And does it also mean getting the maximum ammount of satisfaction from the end npc's? Such as getting maximum research and getting the nessesary kills with guns/traps/melee." (Also I believe if the stated missions are not done the hotdog at the end will not say "EVERYTHING?," however this would have to be tested.)

  2. Should dying/reloading scene be allowed in the hardcore 100%? or should the run be completely reset. Also should it be separated to deathless and death = restart. (IMO dying and reloading should be allowed, though I do not believe in making decisions without community input unless I MUST.)

  3. Should third party help be allowed? (Such as a friend taking down the morse code to assist in runs.)

  4. Should runs be recorded in hd spectator for easier viewing?

Some of these questions may seem "obvious" or something that I should just decide on, however again I believe the community should have a very obvious place in almost all decisions regarding moderation on this forum.

Lastly I want to wish you all a fantastic day, night, or afternoon.

My dms are open to anyone at anytime.

Thank you hotdog shooters!

Amongst many speedruns, I think it'll be fair within the following:

  1. Naturally, all-quest-route includes all primary quests, side-quests shouldn't be considered as major given their place within the game.

  2. Here we can primarily use T&H as example, given that once the player died, the run is over, as respawning is not an option (unless we consider that the player CAN respawn under a fresh run), same could be said about many other games where when the player is dead, the run is over, then again, it is Hardcore, so the difficulty setting was set by the player.

  3. Here I'm not a friend off at all, and I solely justify this off from other games (Minecraft, locating a Stronghold, etc), where one player plays and a second one looks up the seed the player plays in, in my opinion here, it should be on the runner to decypher the morse code by himself as only the runner's talent is on the table.

  4. I for myself occasionally forget it myself (whoops!), then again, it's not a major impact on the run, when I change the spectator settings I mostly set the FOV to 69 (because, nice) and turn on Camera-Preview and HD-Spectator, then again, it is not a major impacting thing, yet, can make a nice difference to the viewing experience of fellow runners & moderators.

My personal thought on Return of the Rotwieners speedruns are as follows as I run the category very often:

  1. All quests, should be literally all quests, including the red lumberjack quest, and the basement quest. The end sosig does NOT say "Everything" if you did not do these two quests. And it would be easy to verify if all quests are done by waiting for him to say "Everything". This does NOT include 100%-ing the run, as that would mean getting all store items purchased, and all end game requirements finished such as 200 gun/melee kills ect... And no, I don't think we need a 100% category unless requested.

  2. I think that dying and reloading should be allowed, HOWEVER, it will be more fun and challenging to have a deathless run. I think having too many categories would be too cumbersome for the leaderboards and would make running something less enticing due to there being several different leaderboards for so many different categories especially since it's such a small community of runners right now. So I don't think it would be a great idea to have a deathless category. My thoughts on this are, you SHOULD be allowed to die/reset during your run. After doing many runs, I learned that there are only a few instances where resetting would give you a time save, but it would also give you somewhat of a time loss on the hardcore difficulty. The arcade difficulty allows you to quick travel to home at any point keeping your inventory, but losing your weapon, which is especially not worth it if you already got all the golden statues. There are many strategies that may allow resetting to be faster, but for a hardcore run, it is almost never worth resetting or dying. Therefore, I think in my opinion, you are allowed to die/reload scene whenever you want, because they have their own benefits and drawbacks.

(2 extended) For example, let's say you wanted to grab a golden statue from old wienerton, the furthest possible town away from the deposit shelf, if you grabbed the statue and reloaded scene, you would lose the statue. If you deposited the statue first, and then reloaded the scene, you would teleport back to the honey hamlet, however you would lose your main weapon, meaning you'd need to re-breach into a checkpoint again to get an assault rifle/battle rifle back. And in hardcore, you'd typically want to use all your meat cores to charge the batteries before you die/reset, but there would be no benefit to reloading the scene after charging a teleporter because you could just teleport back.

  1. I do not think you should have outside help, I think being in a call with someone, or having a twitch chat should be allowed, however it would be hard to moderate those things because the runner could look at twitch chat and the moderator would not know what's on there, so this rule should be more lenient. I learned that just knowing the morse code for example, and knowing the route of the run, is much faster than getting help from an outside source when it comes to HIGH LEVEL running. So I personally don't think it would effect runs much if at all. Therefore, I think help is fine, due to it's low impact on the run until further notice.

  2. I think at least it should become habit to use HD spectator. The tournament uses it for easier viewing, and we can see quick belt slots easier, and have a nicer FOV. I don't think we should invalidate sexy_mustards run for not using HD spectator, I don't think it should then be implemented as a rule, but as a suggestion? With certain limits, to prevent large zooming in or out discrepancies like someone using 200 fov or 20 fov. Limits should be explored, and made part of the rules to avoid issues such as those. Therefore, I think there should only be rules on limits of the FOV for the HD spectator panel.

As for everything else, I don't enjoy moderating but I really enjoy running! If we can't get another moderator before October I'll volunteer so that we can hopefully get more players speedrunning, and put a load off of the wonderful hxoneybeez!
