Championship% - Novice Guide (PlayStation)

Platform: NTSC PS2 is fastest, then you have Emulator NTSC and PAL PS2 which are quite close to each other. It's unclear how fast NTSC PS1 and PAL PS1 are, but they are probably quite slower than PAL PS2.
High 54s are possible on emulator(and possibly on PAL PS2 too), so it should prevent you from running this game).
Enable fast disc speed before launching the game if you're on PS2.
After launching the game, start and quit a championship before starting a run. It will save around 2 seconds on the first loading screen for some reason.

Car: Fastest one is the Golf. You can still probably be somewhat competitive with the other ones though. Renault is unavailable on NTSC unfortunately.

Greece 1: Good Acceleration
Monte Carlo 1: Good Acceleration
Sweden 2: Good Acceleration
Corsica 1: Good Acceleration(you may prefer to skip that one, it's up to you)

Don't repair unless you got significant damage(ie: you crashed somewhere).
Sometimes your car may make a strange whizzing noise at random moments, but we believe it's just a minor sound glitch, don't worry about it.

Menuing: You have to manually select "no" every time the game asks you if you want to save(which is at the end of every stage on novice). Failing to do so will cost you around 7-8 seconds. It's a very common mistake, don't worry if you don't get right the first run.

Major shortcuts: NZ 1(sector 7), NZ 3(sector 7), Australia 2(sector 3; 6 and 8 ), Australia 3(sector 7)
These are very optional, unless you are going for a 54 or a low 55, don't worry with anything other than NZ 1 and Australia(sector 3 and 6 only).

General driving tips: This game allows for a huge slip angle without scrubbing speed. Which means that big slides are usually faster than a more conventional wheels in line driving style. This, however, requires early and confident corner entries, which in turns means you need to have a good track knowledge to go fast.
Grip varies greatly depending on track surface. Sometimes track surface may change many times in a single stage(ie, Monte Carlo 1). Once again, track knowledge is key.

Getting the Autosplitter to work

So this was a issue that came up after the repack so here goes:



When this new repack was made it did something to the addresses within the game where certain values were stored that the autosplitter needed so that it could tell when you were in  a stage, service area, main menu etc.
Because of this the autosplitter DOES NOT work with the repack however there is a way of fixing this...



An old version of the game which I backed up and packed in a ZIP file (See CMR 1 - Full in Resources) allows it to work simply follow these instructions and it will work:


1. Extract the folder to your C Drive under a folder named Codemasters (If it doesn't exist then create one and put it in there)
2. Make sure that the Rally.exe file is being ran in Windows 7 compatibility mode with Run As Administrator enabled.
3. Create a shortcut to that Rally.exe and place it somewhere you can access it easily (I'd recommend the Desktop)
4. Mount the English ISO and run the game. (ISO link can be found under Resources)
5. If all has gone well then the game should load and your autosplitter should work.
6. Enjoy!



NOTE: The ISO must be mounted whenever you play the game otherwise it will throw out a error saying to insert the CD, be warned if you decide to patch the game with a No-CD patch then the game will become unplayable as it will be a 32-bit application and Windows 10 won't be able to load it.

How to install and run the game on Windows 10 (NEW)

1) Download the Repack and ISO file from the resources part first.
2) Run the setup file and let it install. MAKE SURE YOU'VE GOT THE ISO MOUNTED FOR THIS PART!
3) Be sure to have your settings set to the following in DGVoodoo2:

Note: These settings allow the game to be ran in Windowed Mode at 720p, you can adjust the game to your liking using the settings. You can also change the adaptor and output API on the 'General' tab.

Output API --> Direct3D 11 (Feature Level 11.0)

Adaptor --> Your Graphics Card

4) Once this is done you need to go into your compatibility settings for the desktop icon and run the game in compatibility mode with Windows 7 and Run as Administrator.
5) Play the game and enjoy!

If you experience any glitchy issues during stages when playing then be sure to turn Motion Smoothness on and it'll lock the game to 25FPS and get rid of any glitches you might have had.

Make sure to have 'Center app window' ticked in DGVoodoo2 to prevent resizing issues.

How to install and run the game on Windows 10 (OLD)

The game has unfixable laggy setup menu on Windows 8 and higher so it's recommended to speedrun it on W7 and lower.

Instalation guide for Win10:

1. Install the game by running setup.exe  
1.1. During installation only allow for instalation of DirectX 6 (Which shouldn't install anyway)
2. Make sure you won't be trying to run the game from Game.exe  
2.1. Set the Rally.exe to Win 98 compatibility mode

3. Mount the EN iso file and launch the game using RALLY.EXE (Remember to not use Game.exe)

The game is known for running flawlessly after being installed on a clean OS, so if you are desparate to run the game it's recommended to reinstall the OS.
