I was curious about how fast can be the Any% and I wanted to check where I can improve my time. So I've made a low optimization TAS (using BizHawk 2.3.2) and I got a time of 2:47.566.

For my current PB of 2:51 (not published yet), the biggest time save is for the flying disk (-1.4s) and more time save on the skating & BMX. The foot bag and Surfing are just mashing so it's pretty low saving (-0.1s and -0.2s). Finally for the Skateboard, it's about -0.4s save.

Maybe can save few frames on Skating, IDK.

any idea how I can improve the skating? I'm doing 2 frames down arrow and holding up arrow. maybe 2 frames down, 2 frames up, 2 frames down and holding up is faster? as I said It's a low optimization so I didn't try different possibilities.

Maybe losing on Ice Cream.

On the other ports of the game you flip on bmx before going down the hill, I dont know how it works in the sms version. If you can't do the flip earlier than that seems like a good run

A TAS on the other ports would be interesting, a TAS on California games 2 would be cool considering there is a glitch that hasn't been mastered on snowboard, It saves like a whole second

I will check that next time, but so far for the BMX, jumping is possible when the bike has enough speed and on flat or up hill surface. For the skating yes maybe falling on the manhole or the ice cream will be faster.

Also I was wondering if there are some other "Critical Hit" / Death that would give an instant game over? Same as the front flip death with the BMX

Isn't the placement of sidewalk items different each run?

for the skating only the balloon has RNG, for the other sidewalks items it's the same for each run, at least for the SMS version

In terms of instant skips slowing down to a stop instead of crashing on half pipe is supposed to be an instant loss, it skips the other 2 attempts. That is in the NES version. While I'm here idk if it's the rom having issues but I can't really get the sega genesis rom to work well with the emu I'm using, what emulator are you guys using for sms and genesis? Is it bizhawk? Maybe I'll try retroarch with sometime

I saw that on the NES run, but it's not the case for the SMS version. yes I'm using BizHawk (2.3.2), any recent version would work and it's a very good emulator

BizHawk its a good Emulator for TAS, I've did a few TASes on he, about Legend of Illusion.

So, I got the retroarch core used and I'm having the same problems, I dunno if its the controller Im using because Im using an xbox one controller and its worked for everything else I'e ever tried. the rom works fine but my dpad only works on the game menu and not in the events. Again It works with NES port but not with this. I even tried changing ports up and using keyboard and nothing changed. It was this was with bizhawk and on both pcs that I tried, Im using retroarch 1.9.0

only work on the game menu? have you the foot bag event where you have kind of a free control? I guess the keyboard control works right? otherwise I have no idea what's happening, sorry :(

Well I can move everything else it turns out, but it wont let me move in half pipe, maybe ! have a setting with contradicting inputs since it needs you to use 2 buttons at once? After I fix it I can get at least third place instantly

The half pipe event has weird control, like you need to turn at the right moment otherwise it doesn't work. I haven't tried the NES version, not sure if it's the same. but you said for other event it works fine?

Omg that pdf saved my life, unlike the NES port in this you have to speed up to be allowed to turn, That is so funny how that was haunting me

I have no idea how I figured out that when I was kid, but yeah the control for the Half Pipe is a pain, I think I was the only one in the family to do this level ahah. Nice, I'm glad the PDF was useful :D
