The fishing speed run taught me just how pivotal RNG is to most zomboid speed runs. In their Q&A Jobee dismissed seeds as not that important. In the fishing run you have about 1/2 reasonable spawn, 1/10 getting both vhs, 1/3 getting all three books in the first stop, 3/5 getting sufficient supplies in the bait shop. After all those seed related rng rolls, you have the minor RNG of zombie distribution and fish procs that I assume are mostly/completely out of the players control. Of course, you still have to execute well.
I'm not directly arguing that PZ speed runs should be allowed with seeds, just that it is an impactful decision on the way the game is ran. Should a successful speed run require 50+ resets to have a chance at the record once they get optimized? Or should a player be able take the start conditions of a peer and see if they can play it better. I'm grateful its not my decision to make but it certainly matters for the future of the category as a whole.
To be frank, I'm not even sure how to edit the seed. It was never important for casual runs and I enjoy the spice of uncertainty but I don't enjoy resetting for hours after 10m runs that miss VHS loot or what have you.
Pz as a game for SR is really different from other games, besides the sed , you need to improve the pathing and the strategy, if you see the leaderboard leaders, we soft reset a lot... Itsbrig also is streaming a lot of atemps and he is playing around 4 to 6 hours per day.
Believe me, I understand the point of the same seed and making a run for it, but this game needs the rng too,I don't think the admin will approve something about it, at least, not in the sort time.
An advice I can tell you, a few runs have a different approach.
For example
Fishing % don't need the Hvs just the books
Atm,the best one I have seen,it's the first for bleach% any, check the channel and you get an idea,it's worth the time.
As of now in B41. Project Zomboid doesn't have seeds at all or does not have seeds that can be edited. As far as I know, they aren't visible at all.
B42 has seeds, but they are only for basement spawns and some events. I am not sure they are even implemented yet.
If someone discovers something about seeds. A seeded category could be added if enough people had interest. That's the most logical path.
As for the RNG. I think it's a pivotal part of PZ speedrunning. And honestly we're not the only game with significant RNG. I think only 50 attempts to take an optimized record isn't too bad honestly. I mean some Mario Kart runs which have almost no RNG can get into the 10k reset level at the top. And I knew a few other popular games with streamers that have thousands of resets.
I am only at 400 resets for 100Zs. I think we haven't even started optimizing these runs.
Hello potential Project Zomboid speedrunners! I’ve gotten a lot of messages asking questions regarding this game’s new presence on , so I decided to make a Q&A for some questions I am anticipating regarding Project Zomboid’s speedruns. If there are any other
