I don't know Skunky, metronome please be home, it just doesn't have the same ring to it. I don't really know how a metronome works, I am assuming it just makes a noise and doesn't actually press the button for you? So, you would still have to press the start button and it just gives you a better audio cue? That doesn't seem bad, but it is probably a gray area (especially using a software program), so I definitely understand the discussion. I know there are numerous games where pressing start at a certain time is critical for fixing RNG, so is this something where people use this now and in the future other things are allowed? For Mickey Mousecapade, if you press start on a certain frame then you get a weapon spawn in the first level, would a metronome make that free, do you still have to press start in a 1-2 frame window? I am not sure, but I feel like if it is something where if you can get the technodrome 100% of the time using a metronome, but there is no consistent way without it, then maybe it is questionable. I would consider your run legit if you used it, but I think it is something that should be noted with the run if used.

I remember looking at it a long time ago and didn't think it was a time save (I believe the faster path in level 4 is about a 12 second time save), but so many things have changed at this point, so who knows. It would be cool to see a comparison video of the two routes.

Oh wow, that is amazing, nice find!

Not sure if you already figured this out, but there is a good tutorial in the guides section by RetroBob.

Yeah, it should be fine to use if it is slower. Just note that it is on NES Classic in your submission.

Hey, I feel like people have talked about this before. I don't really know how to define glitchless in this game. There are lots of things that could be considered glitches, but are unclear (mouser pause trick and other things that rot mentioned), so it is hard to define. I believe twitch.tv/reaperofvvar did a glitchless run a long time ago, so you might want to check with him on that one and see what was included/excluded to determine the best rules.

Hey, it doesn't seem like anyone else has thoughts on this, so I would just give it another week or two to see if anyone else posts their opinion and then go ahead and make the separate categories.

I am not familiar with the rank mechanic for Turtles in Time, but I agree with HDL that these should be separate categories if enemies/bosses act differently if you die many times and that could let you beat the game much faster (I would also think if you did a 1 CC run and could take an intentional death somewhere to make the boss easier, than that would be aimed for in a speedrun).

It seems like most people play by adding credits at the beginning, so I think that will probably be the run that gets the most submissions and is still a legitimate way to beat the game in my opinion. I don't know enough about this game or arcade runs, so we will see what the other runners think as far as separating and renaming the categories and adding rules that make it clear what is allowed for each type of run.

Hey StickeredNolmy, that is cool, who is your go-to character? You can obviously do any run that you want on any version you want in general. However, the SNES version is a lot different from NES, so your best bet is to just submit it under the normal All-Stars category. If you end up getting really serious with it, or if there is more interest in the All-Stars one character runs, then we could always add another category.

Nice, I have tried a few different things for that falling guy. I have seen the swimming thing before, but could never really get in there without touching the bomb at the top.

I will add some info on timing to the rules, but for the NES the timer begins when you press Start on the title screen before character select (kind of annoying in itself). The timer ends when you enter the door after giving wart dinner and then helping him go to sleep (definitely not killing him). I am not sure the reasoning, maybe the SNES was done that way for JRTA timing, I never ran that one.

I see your point with the All Levels label and the category names are a bit confusing. I think it used to be called Warpless, but it got changed because of the mouser skip/wrong warp being found (I was thinking about that too RottDawg that SMB1 has a wrong warp and is still called warpless). If I was just talking to someone about the run causally, then I would probably just call it warpless. The overall purpose of the category is to do a run without using the warp vases.

I think All Levels was chosen because you are still playing each of the levels (but don't necessarily complete them). Your suggestion of All Worlds has a similar purpose, but would technically be more accurate, so I am fine with using that instead. We can see what other people think and then update as needed.

Hey, I am not too familiar with the differences between US and JP, but your idea seems like a good one. I am fine with you being a mod for the game as well, but I would hold off with any changes until talking to omqwat since he has been running the game forever and knows all the differences between US/JP.

Not really, I have always liked blackjack better than slot machines.

True, I am not sure if you know about the Best of NES marathon this weekend ( https://horaro.org/bones2016/schedule ), but I am running TMNT there and will definitely use this and give you a shout out.

There are two different patterns of underwater speed boosts. One of them is good, the other doesn't seem to help much and gives you speed boosts in bad spots. The good pattern gives you boosts in particular spots throughout the level, with the best one being the huge straight away section through the big seaweed patch and electricity section. There are a few other small helpful boosts with that pattern also. I don't really know how to control which pattern I get, but I know that whenever I keep my speed after the downward screen transition after the first bomb defusing, then I have the good pattern. If I slow down during that screen transition, then I have the bad pattern. I don't think the turtle you are using matters (it seems to be frame based), but I am not sure. I think there is a youtube video by spiderwaffle that goes into a lot of detail on the swimming section.
