Why does my displayed country on the leaderboard now say "United Kingdom" instead of "Scotland"?

This needs changed back.

Hello,

Will there ever be IL boards implemented? Would be interesting to see the fastest times for each level and put together a theoretical "best possible human run" from them.

Hi all,

I use fceux. I used to use a save state to quickly reset back to the Start menu (assigned it to a hotkey on my controller, so I could just press "L2" and it would reset back to the start menu).

This seemed to be fine when I submitted runs around a year ago, but my most recent run was rejected for breaking the "no save states" rule. Which is fine, the rule is there for a reason and I'm not arguing it.

Can anyone suggest the most efficient way to reset, that won't break the rules? I don't want to have to put down my controller, click Menu, and load the entire ROM in every time I screw up 1-1.

How do you guys reset?

Hi all,

The NES is probably the system I have least experience of. I have began practising SMB2/3 again this week, however in order to take a break inbetween practice to not get frustrated I was looking for more games to try.

Ideally I am looking for four or five platformer or sports games to play also, but that don't already have like 100 runners (so no SMB1/Metroid/Mega Man please); if people who are more experienced with the NES could give me suggestions of other games to check out, games like Alfred Chicken for example is perfect, I would appreciate it :)

For me, I have my eyes on:

Hekigan's Mirror's Edge, Grimshin's Ecco (w/ Argick commentary!) Zaxon96's Sonic AIR Argick's Sonic Mania Tecate & CHX42's Metroid (w/ Skybliz commentary!)

That's probably a top five but there are at least 20 I intend to check out live!

Really wish we didn't have to sit through the cutscene every time lol

I am stuck on the autoscroller at the moment but I will persevere. I think like the WR, using JoyToKey is the smartest way to go. I've just been trying on keyboard so far.

Hello,

I see some people seem able to quote others or even @ tag them in forum posts.

I don't seem to be able to (Windows PC, Chrome browser).

Is this a permissions thing or a use setting, or am I missing something obvious?

Hi,

I'm curious as to what the rationale is for not accepting ANY short/"trivial" games any more.

Games like Solitaire etc are on the boards and have a decent level of competition.

Games like SMB can now be completed very quickly.

I don't understand the reasoning behind having an artificial limit on game submissions, and why this thought process changed from the days when games like Minesweeper etc were (imo rightly) accepted as speedruns.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like any game with competition should be accepted? It's not like we host the videos on-site.

Hi all,

An idea I had floated pre-V05 was to have a weighted leaderboard adding up each runner's total contributions to give them an overall score.

My thinking was that it would a] allow us to compete across the whole spectrum of characters and difficulties, b] encourage people to try out different characters and difficulties and c] reward optimisation of the top run in each category.

I have now created this leaderboard and will periodically update it:

I will periodically update this post with a Top Three once there have been a few more runs.

At present it is very weighted towards one or two Mania runs, but feel free to have a look and see how your runs have weighted at present.

(In particular, Paul-Knives has leapt right up due to decimating my Blaze1 Mania by over 11 minutes - trust me, I mean to rectify that soon ;) )

Hopefully this will be taken as intended - an extra bit of good, fun competition :D my intention is absolutely not to demean anyone or categorically say any one person is "better" than another - we all have our areas of expertise, but I wanted a fun thought exercise to see who could be considered the pound-for-pound champion across the board.

Hey all,

Love this game, love the speedruns. I was thinking of one day (no time soon - like, 2021) of speedrunning it but on the PS version.

Is there a particular reason that all the runs seem to be N64? Is it not viable to compete with PS version?

Hi all,

Just wanted to extend an invitation to anyone who had given up on Streets Of Rage 4 or haven't checked it out yet.

A balance patch was released on Monday addressing the main concerns with the game ie that it was too difficult for most players to get into.

The AI has been nerfed to a large degree, a lot of characters have had changes to their attacks (either patterns, damage or both) and some of the more 'glitchy' attack combos have been removed.

The response from the casual gamers has been incredible, so I would urge you even on that basis to give it a go again. It is a great game once you complete it once and learn the patterns etc.

In terms of the speedruns, the boards have been essentially soft-reset. The old runs are still there, but the filter shows V05 only as default and getting a run on V05 will class you as 1st place regardless of how it compares to previous versions. However, the old runs are all there to study if you change the filter to "All".

I have tested the new patch with Adam on Easy and beat my pre-patch time by almost a minute. Some of the runs that relied on those "glitchy" combos will be significantly slower, but overall I would say the game is faster.

Also the final stage is much better balanced. It felt half-finished beforehand.

So, if you haven't already, take up the game, try to speedrun it, contact any of us in the forum for advice or tips :)

Hi all,

I know the previous thread has been locked, but I am assuming the boards will be reset once the patch arrives, so I personally think another look at the categories is in order.

Having now played pretty much every character at every difficulty, I have a few thoughts on the matter and I wonder if anyone feels the same or if we are happy as it is:

  1. The amount of categories and possible removal of some.

We have over 100 main categories. It is understandable, but it seems a bit silly if we want to get SOR4 taken more seriously amongst speedrunners.

Easy should obviously stay, as should Mania. Personally I think that Hardest is different enough to warrant staying too. Hard I think should be dropped. Normal I think we can all 100% agree is a pointless category. Boss Rush is its own beast.

If we got rid of Normal and Hard, which are basically identical to Easy except a bit more annoying, we'd find ourselves with 68 Single Player categories (17 characters, Easy/Hardest/Mania/Boss Rush) which seems a much more sensible number imo and would encourage people to run more categories I think.

  1. Why are the retro characters still under "Misc"?

I can understand why it was decided upon prior to the games release, but surely all the characters should be on the main boards now. Shiva, Max and Skate especially hold their own, and it just looks frankly weird.

At the moment the SOR4 characters are divided by character then difficulty.

But the retro characters are divided by difficulty then character.

I think when/if we reset the boards we should move all the characters to the front page, then clicking each character separates by difficulty.

Again I think it would make it more obvious to newer runners what the various categories are, and would promote more optimisation of all the characters, for instance Shiva at the moment is the fastest run which we should be promoting as the pinnacle of our game, yet the only sub 40 characters (Shiva and Max) are hidden behind THREE menus. It doesn't make sense as an advert for the speed of our game.

Those are my thoughts on it, for what they are worth.

  • Promote all of the characters to the main page.
  • Reduce the categories to Easy, Hardest, Mania, Boss Rush.
  • All 2 Player games can go to Misc.

I don't know if anyone else has a desire to see the boards revamped (I know there have been murmurings of 100%/Deathless/Score Attack amongst others) but I thought I'd put my opinion out there and see what the community thinks would help see the game grow.

Hi all,

I had theorised this would be possible for a while but I decided to pull it off today just to check.

Blaze1 can use her Star in such a way on the screen with all the Dicks that it opens up the next screen before killing all the enemies. You can then get into the Arcade cabinet / move on to the next screen and load the next set of enemies.

In this video, it appears as though of the two Dicks I left behind, one followed me through into the next screen (lol) and one I guess was still up in the arcade room and got caught. The Galsia also got confused about his spawn, and when I went back to collect them it had locked the LHS screen.

You may be able to fix it theoretically if the Star can reach into the arcade room but I was clearly too low down to try that. Anyway, enjoy the video for science.

Hey,

So looking at the runs above me on the board, when I complete a run and click solve it still takes several seconds for the timer to stop, yet in the top runs it happens instantly.

So what am I doing wrong with the settings? I turned off all the animations apparently but it is still doing it. Should your run end when you click "Solve" instead?

Also the top runs seem to be able to clear the board of several cards in one click. Am I missing something?

Hey all,

So yesterday I finally got the Easy WR (skipped right over 53 and put up a 52:55) making me the first, I believe, person to hold all 6 WRs for one character at one time.

It's a bit redundant now because Paul Knives has wrecked my Mania time (gg Paul) but for a hot moment I had them unified and made this kind of side-by-side video of the levels and the Bosses for fun to celebrate.

Well, made the video anyway, so enjoy. A few times the commentary and gameplay sync up in quite a funny way and I tried to balance the 6 audio tracks to not be completely awful (two of the runs had different soundtracks lol).

Hi all,

This happened to me today. I can't see anything unusual that would cause me not to get the extra life at 60,000 points.

Was on Arcade Easy with Blaze1. Full run will be uploaded shortly.

Any ideas why this happened?

Hi all

I noticed that if you goad the Barneys etc to the left of the screen, then get to the right of the screen as the "Up" appears for the traffic lights, if the Barneys etc get hit by it off-screen, regardless of health they seem to die.

This can be really useful for getting into the Estel fight early. If you time it right, you can even get rid of the first group (Barney + 2 Dicks on Easy) in the first cycle then the second Barney on the next cycle and really cut out time fighting them.

Hopefully I have explained it well, you can see what I mean at 28:30 onwards on this run.

You can see I first throw the items away to the end of the screen (gets them into Estel fight btw), then I move forward, I throw two Dicks away, they had so little health left that the traffic light hit kills them anyway, but notice the first Barney has not been touched. The light instant kills him because it hits him off screen.

I then kill Dick, throw Barney to the left and walk away. iirc, the damage from a throw plus a traffic hit shouldn't be enough to kill Barney, but as he is off-screen, the traffic light pushes him to instant death and I am ready for Estel (with two tasers and a pipe).

I have not seen this piece of information discussed anywhere at all, so I'm not sure if anyone else is aware of this. I also haven't practised it on Mania so please let me know if it works or does not.
