My understanding (someone can correct me if I'm wrong) is that the name "Glitchless" is an homage to Super Metroid. On the deertier website, SM has categories for Major Glitches and No Major Glitches, but there is an "Any%" under both of these categories.

I agree the category shouldn't be called "Glitchless," if for no other reason than the fact that no where is it stated what is considered a glitch or an exploit. It's like going into a stream that just says "Follow the rules" while never telling you what said rules are, so how do you know you broke one until you get banned for it? It should not fall to the runner to have to ask around in order to figure out what those rules are. They should be clearly defined somewhere, and updated as questions and needed clarification arise. Furthermore, majority of the Diablo community accepts low-hp-MS as being a glitch, and many even consider it to be a major glitch right after duping.

There are so few runners for this game, I don't see anything ever changing, and I think that's probably the main reason for it. Just look at the discussion attempt over "free casting." It basically went nowhere because there was hardly any input. And honestly, I didn't expect it would go anywhere.

I'm kind of on the fence about this tbh. Yes, it is true we use double-casting, but I think even we have certain limits to how much we'll abuse it (or at least I do). For example: I don't double cast ID scrolls even though I know how to because I feel it's a bit too much.

I don't agree with the comparison of calling it "like duping," because then you'd have to call double casting like duping as well. The only difference is that one is easy to do accidentally whereas the other is blatant abuse.

Free casting has it's limits, and they are kind of big. You can only carry 1 scroll at a time. No more. If you have a second one on you, it will use that one up instead. And you must be able to take a step forward to make use of it. So if you're surrounded, you would have no choice but to use up the only Phasing scroll you have on you, which is just asking to die if you're running Caves. So hope it puts you some place useful.

But that's just scrolls. The same trick can done with staves, which means you can make a 4 charge MS staff last the whole game and never have to recharge it. This murkys the waters further because there's already a much more efficient way to use a staff charge without the cost to it just by switching to a different spell immediately after casting, which I'm definitely against using, even though in principle it's the same thing.

While I do think it's a neat trick, it does feel a bit too blatant of an abuse.

Posting this here in the hopes of getting some discussion going: A recent discovery that has been dubbed "free casting." This new discovery further takes advantage of spell queuing and would allow you to use a scroll or staff charge without the cost, but doesn't use actual duping. Should this be allowed in Any% (Glitchless) and Any% (Glitchless, HC) runs?
