Hi, was wondering if you guys could add Ninja Gaiden (2004) to the NG series. It's the original xbox version that NGB is based on.

dehydratedninja is playing on ng04 btw, in case anyone is wondering about the armlet of tranquility
Yep, original xbox is also off too
- Time is based on real time.
- Starts from when X pressed on the start of the first chapter screen.
- Ends when Fiend Murai is killed.
So if the video shows you pressed X on the chapter 1 start screen at 0:00:15, then you kill Fiend Murai at 2:01:10. Then you deduct that first timestamp off the final stamp to get 2:00:55. The final decimal spots of the final time is truncated.
Video for the stadium challenge, it's just ryu standing there doing nothing.
Jtb's archive video
Original xbox, mn archive challenge
I think that the ingame timer may be slower than real time. I was timing some videos of my practice runs and noticed the karma timer was incrementing slightly slower than livespliter.
This is from a timer test I did on Xbox one X in the stadium challenge
This is from the timer from jtb's archive challenge video which he did on xb360 (i think)
Looks like ingame time will have to be disregarded and we'll have to rely on real time only.
*I'm busy uploading the videos that I did the timer test on, I'll post them later
All the cool kids are in the No Scarabs club these days :p
Either way is fine, loading times aren't that big a deal considering how long the run is. You're going to lose more time to getting smacked by Hydracubus or Alma dodging your flying swallows.
[quote=Grig] I think the leaderboard positions should be based on RTA time, since dying and loading a save loses no time on the end timer and etc.[/quote]
Good point, saving/reloading a game has no effect on the final ingame time that gets shown. So "No saves allowed" should be a rule then.
jtb made a submission but i'm too lazy to download the video and slap a timer on it. Lets switch to ingame timer XD
Also I can't access genetic's submission to see the ingame timer, twitch being derpy.
The Xbox One version is great but I think the backwards compatibility emulator got patched or something. My ninpo drops have been awful lately. Also the fireworm room softlock is still there from xbox 360. Where the game will sometimes freeze on a loading screen from either the chest or door if you run thru the tunnel too fast.
jtb's stream schedule is approximately 1 stream every few months >:D
As long as the karma window is up before any black screen/end of chapter transitions. Something like
- Karma window must be up before end of chapter transitions
[quote=Kanis99]Let me know if anyone has a good reason not to make this change[/quote] This gave me the impression that you wanted to able to add jtb's runs without going to the hassle of adding the onscreen timer.
To go with the ingame timer rule, you'd need to add the arbitrary rule of no saving, since I've confirmed the timer does pause in the save menu.
Also I'd like to add mandatory showing of the karma points windows since I've discovered that people will actually splice runs (well, bigalski pointed it out) XD
With showing karma points, it's easy to see if there have been splicing between fights and chapter ends since the people on ngrealm know all the point calculations for every single fight.
At least the spliced video is only a no damage run - *bbcode doesn't allow embedding with timestamp
y u no put timer? :'(
I use VSDC Video Editor to make my ngb videos and timed your previous run with it.
I thought the purpose of the timer was to stay consistent with modern speedrun conventions. Not as a way to deter splicing. http://www.speedrun.com/Ninja_Gaiden_Black/thread/uf576/1#enpir
With the ingame timer as the timing method would if I be allowed to afk between chapters or in the save game menu. You'd have to make an arbitrary rule to disallow that.
JTB is extremely old fashioned, he's been using igt ever since karma running was a thing XD
I've been thinking of switching to a more SDA style ruleset. Such as reducing difficulty categories down to just normal (easiest) and master ninja (hardest). Any%/100% single segment for each.
I wouldn't consider Ninja Dog as a regular way of playing the game. It's an unlockable mode that requires the game to be played before hand. You die a bunch of times on the first chapter, make a new save, and then reload from that save to play the mode.
A low% run for normal is possible but I think it's impossible for Master Ninja. It's basically a lvl1 dragonsword only firewheels ninpo only no healing no talisman original lifebar run. You do get TDS just before fighting Awakened Alma.
I've thought of switching from real time to ingame timer, another SDA style rule, however the game does pause the timer while you are in the save menu. So I can't follow through with that as you can just take a break in there while doing Master Ninja 100% not be penalized for the time spent idling the game.
Idling on save screen for 6min and still ending chapter 1 with a 3:29
tldr; Only difficulties now are normal and master ninja, both get any% and 100%
