Actually, since a photo was accepted for the other only Arcade run, I think we can roll with that. Is there anyway to verify the difficulty on the machine?
Nice, very cool! I'm jealous. I'd like to see if the other mods could weight in on a photo. Since they were mods before me, the rules generally state video evidence is required. Are you able to verify that the machine is on Very Hard during your run?
There are not at the moment. Could easily be added though as I'm assuming most everyone would play on the same TV and not in LAN which would make recording and posting much more straightforward.
Let me know if you have any specific categories with 2 player that you'd like to see!
Well, I can't say I haven't been expecting this at some point or another, mainly because I was unable to record myself performing these runs and they were not streamed live. It's flattering that the runs are good enough for someone to believe they are faked.
Although I can't speak much to the technical points made here, I can give some information in my own defense.
I do use component cables with an Elgato HD unit to record. I toggle multiple setting in the Elgato program, such as sound levels and brightness and saturation to add depth of color and a better overall picture(Personally, I am a stickler for high quality and enjoy to see older games portrayed in the best possible light on their natural hardware).
I have experienced buzzing with my Xbox to a terrible degree to where I had to purchase a ground loop isolator to fix the problem. I have never noticed any buzz while recording on my PS2.
While I believed the flashing on the screen per shot could only be accomplished in real play(as this is how light guns work), I have found after some research that it is possible to replicated through PCSX2.
If I were the actual world record holder, of course my accuracy would be higher. I've owned this game(along with TC1 and TC3) since the time of release so I already knew the game well before I started running it seriously. You can also watch my progression from a low 13 minute run to the low 12 minute run. I choose different paths along the way and have learned which enemies to kill first in order to force the next set to spawn.
There are still better players than me. If Smraedis(https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClgHVG66YhwMA39DWj5_EBw) ran these games for time instead of score, I'm sure his times would rival mine. I tried for almost a year to break his 2 million record on this game and came close with a 1.7 million. This was also the basis for learning the game for time.
At any rate, I feel as though there are better and more in-depth methods of proving that these runs are real/fake. I am not capable of these methods. The only thing I can tell you is that I sat fairly close to my television to achieve them. In the meantime, I will work on record myself getting a solid time in an attempt to prove my abilities.
That's my piece. Thanks for reading.
I think rolling with option 1 would work. Going to a whole separate website for the same game seems kind of ridiculous. A name is only a name. My favorite thing about speedrun.com is how comprehensive it is so adding another layer seems like a bonus to me.
If the community decides to do option 3, I'd be willing to donate to get the domain name.
Thanks for considering this and furthering the world of serious game players!
For some reason, the Discord doesn't exist anymore. I asked Leon on twitter, but no response. I guess I could make a new one, I've just never done it before because I'm a noob.
For now, you can discord me ( matthewreality#6287 ) or ask any questions here. Happy to help out with what I know/theories have on the game.
Excited to see someone start to run the game, welcome to it!
You probably are allowed to do that. You can also just use LiveSplit and post the splits with your recorded video.
If you have even an okay computer, you could purchase this: https://www.amazon.com/DATA-connection-video-capture-GV-USB2/dp/B00428BF1Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1518817145&sr=8-1&keywords=gvusb2
Solid video quality and easy to use.
Would also be cool if there was a Level Leaderboard like the TC3 page.
There could easily be machine gun or shotgun categories as well. You could throw in difficulties, but I don't feel the game is THAT different per difficulty.
I think a non-gun-con category makes sense. It's not really fair to have it mixed in with Gun-con runs.
However, playing as different characters only has an affect on the first room. From there you are able to pick your paths. Even going from Stage 2 to Stage 3, your side is picked from the path you chose much earlier but shooting the bonus enemies. It's not like TC3 where is produces a totally different perspective/run.
Could you add a 2 player section for Arcade?
I should be able to submit for it soon.
Yeah, that would be awesome. Do you still have access to an arcade machine? What's the approximate distance of your feet to the screen?
Unfortunately, Speedrun.com doesn't allow leaderboards via high scores. Some games are able to finagle by accounting for time first, and score later, but in this case, there's no great way to go about it.
I don't think there is a difference for scoring per difficulty. I believe the speed of firing and boss health levels are the main differences(that's my guess anyway).
I know I've done 3 mil+, but I rarely pay much attention. I'm flexible with posting the runs, I don't really know the technical limitations of speedrun.com.
After practicing this run a few times, I believe it would produce even more impressive runs than going for speed.
With extra lives being a huge bonus at the end, you are taking a sizable risk farming, especially on the latter boss fights. I feel like a 30 min. timecap solves the farming problem, which is only significant on 2 or 3 bosses. imo, a higher score with a slower time is still the higher score, therefore the better run.
Given the depth of TC2, high score runs can be very impressive. Smraedis has a run that is 2mil and so good I have doubts as to whether or not it's real(it is.)
After another speed record, I'd like to focus on high score for a bit just for a change of pace. Let me know what y'all think!
Not sure why, not many people run this game in general, so you're kinda the first person mentioning it. Would be cool as there are a few things you can do to increase your score like not missing enemies, collecting money, and shooting breakable objects for(very small amounts) of points.
I think the only RNG is boss actions and weapon upgrades/pop-gun.
I'd throw my hat it in if the leaderboard was there.
