Running Half-Life 2 glitchless is about as interesting as watching grass grow. There's really nothing too it. If you want to run glitchless go ahead, nobodies going to stop you. Just know that your runs won't really be taken seriously by anybody, because, glitchless hl2 is a joke.

There are a far larger set of differences than that.

First and foremost: Old engine -The primary method of movement in Old Engine is bunny hopping, holding w and jumping repeatedly. I believe speed gain per hop is linear, and can be quite slow to reach the movement cap. -Propclimbing/propflying is another feature in Old Engine, Since Valve didn't really program what happens when a prop is underneath you, you can hold a prop underneath you and repeatedly jump on it to gain speed. You don't let go of it. -In Old Engine the command 'wait' works differently to how it does in New Engine. You can perform a trick called a Change Level Delay, where you can move near freely through a level change and appear there on the next map. -In Scripted Old Engine you can use a script called savewarping which is loading a save during a trigger delay. This allows you to load the next map in a position of your choice, Savewarping also allows for wrongwarping which is a bit more complicated. -When you enter a vehicle regardless of engine, you enter noclip, and when you exit a vehicle in a standard manner, the game removes noclip. If you save warp out of a vehicle you get given noclip glitch, which allows you to fly freely in noclip through the level. -When exiting noclip via barnacle you get a new glitch which I believe is called 'QuickClip' Which allows you to take a prop and travel through walls, pretty cool. -Jclip is where a user save and loads while crouched (in old engine). When the game loads for a short timespan you can pull an object into your top half (uncrouched). When the game realises that you are stuck in the object, you can save and load in order to clip. -CLIP DIRECTION IN OLD ENGINE IS UPWARDS. -Simply saving and loading while stuck allows you to travel through brushes (areas that are solid). -Falling for a short period of time before save loading allows you to travel through the void (areas with free movement.) -Pausing and save loading both reset your velocity to 0 while in the void. -Save deletion (Creating a Save, loading it, deleting it and reloading it) works in Old Engine.

New Engine -Has ABH/ASH/AFH, (Accelerated Backwards/Sideways/Forward Hopping) which is exponential movement, reaching the speedcap (3500 on each axis) is far easier to get. -Propclimbing is limited, You must jump and regrab the prop each time you want to climb higher. -Propflying is possible though is far harder. -Propclipping by pushing the player against an object which is against a wall or brush will eventually cause the prop to clip into the player, allowing them to clip. -CLIP DIRECTION IN NEW ENGINE IS DOWNWARDS -Maintaining velocity through a brush is easy through repeated save loading. -Maintaining velocity in the void requires saving and loading with precise timing, otherwise you lose all your speed. -Save Deletion also works in New Engine.

I think there's a couple different ways of doing it. The way I'm doing it, is climbing on the wall, directly to the right of the camera. Tap D, or whatever you move right key is, and then jump toward the building again. I think it's a timing thing, but if you do it correctly, you'll be on an invisible wall to the right-side of the main wall. Tapping W puts you into the building.

You might need to mess with this a bit though. I hope this helps.

i know a couple of skips, but I'm not sure if the PC port is by any means similar to the n64 version.

Englandmaddavid1238 years ago

@Z The reason i'd like to run either the PS2 version or the buggy PC Port is because they are both buggy. I think it'll be fun :)

Englandmaddavid1238 years ago

I've heard from some people that the playstation 2 version is similar to the PC version.

While not completely unplayable, the PC and PS2 version is an extremely buggy mess. So far as it glitching in some way unreliably at least once per level.

Just a thought, If the PS2 version is as buggy as the PC version, i may switch over to using the PS2 version while learning the rest of this game. Because launching the PC port is not an easy thing to do, and the mouse is all weird xD

But anyway, Thanks, MaDD

I for one agree with this, I think that starting at attack might be a good idea. Then you can time straight away and be in-game the entire time. Whereas if you start at bootcamp, you need to do a level, then go BACK to the main menu, to go back in-game to start the campaign.

Just a thought. thanks, MaDDaviD123

Hi, I don't know if sub categories are required or not, I just thought I'd let you know that the PC Port was probably different to the N64 version.

I'll do some stuff later and try to do Bootcamp as an IL this should be able to show how different the two versions are.

Thanks, maddavid123

Hi again, Sorry for not replying faster, I'll be happy to try and help, however the PC Port looks very different compared to the N64 version, so far I've only really looked at boot camp, but when I then look at the IL for bootcamp, the map looks completely different.

I've been told that the PC Port is somewhat different, I don't know if my runs would be like runs on the N64 version at all.

Is this likely to be a problem?

Thing's I've already seen:

If I strafe sideways and then jump while strafing pretty much whenever i hit the ground I move faster than if i just run sideways. This however would mean you are facing 90 degrees to the way I'm going, this would mean you would need to know the entire map, Which shouldn't be too difficult to learn. I also do not know if this would even work on the N64 version.

This is all the stuff I've found so far. I'll try to post any more things I find.

If you are trying to optimize shots, why not run on easy? On easy you have infinite ammo in the main weapon. (forgive me I'm writing this in college so i can't check right now) and the AI is not as smart, so it should be easier to get through.

In my opinion, feel free to poke holes in it i'm always open to criticism, easy mode looks like the fastest right now, you are probably able to survive more easily and with infinite ammo in the main weapon you don't have to bother routing to get more ammo for that. I know that Easy mode is a bit of an easy way out per se, but it will probably faster.

Once again, feel free to criticise anything from within this post!

Thanks, maddavid123

Greetings! I'd very much like to learn this game, Can somebody explain to me any rules I need to follow?

Main questions: Is expert mode required? Or can the game be run on a different difficulty?

Can I play on the PC port? Or should I try to find an emulator?

On the Full-game Leaderboard there is no video. How should I time, when do I start timing, when do I stop?

Where do I start in the run? Should I start with the bootcamp? or do i start from Attack?

Please respond when it is convenient.

Thank you very much for your attention, maddavid123
