Zeko is right, if you leave ingame mouse sensitivity at default and lower your mouse's DPI, you'll get normal aiming. The y-sensitivity fix is still allowed, since we didn't want to force people to spend money on speedrunning (lol). I got so used to playing 16:9 with widescreen off, that the game looks too thin to me if it's not streched.

Yea, this new strat is a combination of an instapass (albeit taking it to an extreme) and cutscenes teleporting you (like GA warp), so defining a category where MH's 53:01 run is legit but Powdinet's 17:23 isn't is really tricky.

Sloveniam00nchile7 years ago

@anti-Streaks Right before duping was discovered, Ractrot got a low 1:26, which was a crazy good time with those strats. It's still an amazing run even after all this time. Anyone who got a sub54 still has a really good run and MH's run will still be appreciated. Any% evolves, strats and routes change, we really don't need knee-jerk reactions right now, like with 7 assets. Like I said before, if a new category is made, old runs can be resubmitted.

Keep the leaderboards as is. If a new category is made down the road where old any% is applicable, old runs can be resubmitted.

You can end up on a slightly different position than the one in the screenshot, because the amount of ticks you move isn't consistent. The trick isn't pixel perfect though.

Gael, as far as I know, RTA stands for Real Time Attack, and that would make it a timing method. For example, 3, VC and SA any% categories are RTA, while LCS and VCS any% are IGT.

So your answer to an argument about semantics is to argue about semantics even more and derail the thread in the process?

Sloveniam00nchile8 years ago

Karl, I already gave the "telemark" example, another would be renaming "offside" to "ahead of all opposing players but one at the moment a pass takes place, unless the player in possession passes backwards" in football. "Offside" is also a vague term, people who don't watch football are always confused by it. Point is, (again, repeating myself), lingo is part of the activity, and "Beat the game" wouldn't be any clearer to people who are new to speedrunning. "The RC helicopter mission was so hard for me, I can't wait to see you beat it" "That mission isn't needed" "But I thought you wanted to beat the game, doesn't that mean finish everything?". A term is established, not just in the GTA community, but the whole speedrunning community and it's not ambiguous, unless you go out of your way to make it seem ambiguous.

The meaning of any% isn't an opinion though, you thinking it's not an appropriate name for the category is an opinion, but what it means is set in stone.

Sloveniam00nchile8 years ago

I just said "any% does not imply game completion" is a fallacy, no need to play the hurt feelings card.

Sloveniam00nchile8 years ago

I try to remain civil and on topic, but I have to admit karl, this arguing over semantics is a bit silly. You can't say any% doesn't imply game completion when the term was invented to mean just that. This conversation might as well just devolve to why are colors named the way they are, then why do we even call them colors, then why is the verb "call" used to imply meaning etc etc.

Sloveniam00nchile8 years ago

I'll repeat something I said in chat earlier. Most activities, be they hobbies or professions, have their own lingo, and becoming part of the community involves learning the lingo too. Any% by itself doesn't imply you beat the game, but the term was invented to signify just that, beat the game, but you don't need to achieve 100%. A different example would be this, should ski jumping change the name "telemark" to "land with one foot in front of the other"? Hell no, it's the name given to the landing technique, it's been in use for ages, and that's the exact way I feel about the term "any%".

I'm guessing you didn't snipe both guards, but only got one, got on the PCJ, drive by shot the other, then driven back to the mansion. If you get on the PCJ before the mission is over, it will still be marked as a mission vehicle, therefore marked for despawn. In that case, after killing the second guard, stop, get off the PCJ, back on, proceed as normal.

Sloveniam00nchile8 years ago

Ractrot came up with the idea of using a sniper rifle, that you buy during shakedown, same time as grenades, to snipe the first collectors from extreme distance. Then he made the idea even better. When you start CtC, do NOT move, just crouch, zoom in to the max, and aim at this spot: https://imgur.com/h9h5X4k Look at the spot where the sniper aiming reticule circle intersects the horizontal line on the left side. Spam shoot at this spot (keep aiming, double tap F1 between shots) until the collector marker disappears from the map, proceed normally. My best attempt so far was 5s faster than this video by MH:

Picking up the shotgun is a small price to pay for no cop car RNG.

Sloveniam00nchile8 years ago

I've been timing Copland routes from mansion to garage and at least for me, the fastest one is going left after Starfish bridge, then straight to the main road at the bridge next to the pizza place (not going left to the Chase apartment). I got around 3s faster drives compared to going straight after Starfish bridge and past Malibu, and going past the Chase apartment, though I'm not that good at that route, so timesaves may be less.

There's a reason S is a GTA mod and why his opinion matters. He's been part of this community and an active runner for way longer than you, ilias. You dismissing him like that proves how close minded you are, along with the claim you played San Andreas more than runnerHAWORTH and can objectively analyze SA driving. You have personally called my 1.5k hours invested in Vice City (or by your words, Vice Shitty) irrelevant, and that I didn't try hard enough, even though I held the WR on 2 separate occasions, but yet again, I, like S and anyone else with a dissenting opinion should shut up because we don't know the game. You insult people profusely, yet claim we're bullying you. Your main proof that Kyle cheats, is that you can't match his times even though you grind a lot. I've probably invested more hours into VC any% than MH and KZ, yet fell behind. You don't magically master everything you do just by doing it long enough.

Any% is a synonym for beat the game though, IIRC it started in Metroid runs, beat the game 100% or beat the game regardless of % completion.

Sloveniam00nchile8 years ago

Eh, at least it incited some routing talk, so it wasn't all bad.
