There's not really that much more optimization to be had for most levels in regards to bike routing. The game isn't fundamentally broken with zips like Sonic and the major skips that have been found are optimal with currently known knowledge. The current bike route can improve closer to what the TAS did on In the Sky by being more risky to save a few seconds.
As far as no-bike is concerned, I don't see much point in adding ILs either unless we figure out how to make Alex move faster. His speed just tops out when going right and jumping doesn't seem to slow down anything. Like there might be optimal obstacle clearing in levels like Pyramid and Rocky Mountain 1 but even the latter has the TAS to emulate on.
tl;dr this game just doesn't seem complex enough to warrant leaderboards that won't really have any direct competition as much as full game runs which require more focus over a longer period, so I'm rejecting it until more noticeable developments were to occur (i.e. zips/finding ways to make Alex accelerate faster)
That's some spicy meatballs. I wonder if it has any relevance in castle for potential new clip spots.
I did it on a slim ps2 (unsure which model been a while and I've owned both 70k and 90k series) and I believe it was without FDS and also smooth textures were off. Also unsure on PSTV.
Sorry for the late response, had to redo my notifications since I never log on. That's some dope stuff right there!
Sorry for the late 2 week response, SRC didn't send me a notification of a forum update. Mednafen might be okay since it is accurate focused. I only originally had them banned because ePSXe did not accurately replicate the lag in some portions of the game (mainly the puzzle area of mission 5) and emulation like Mednafen wasn't really widely used AFAIK. If you wanted to do a run or send me a video of one, I can add the submission to the main category. Mostly retired from doing runs anymore but open to suggestions as always.
Genesis Emulator since that is an officially licensed Sega Genesis using Emulation
Barring anyone else's input in the matter for a reasonable reason to include it, I will consider this glitch a softlock and not permissible for an end to the run.
Rules for game have been changed to reflect this decision and this thread is now stickied.
So for those who don't know yet, when using the last bike clip and after the final boss battle if Alex enters the Throne room before the boss transitions, the game has a glitched ending where the final cutscene will not trigger and Alex will be stuck in the throne room indefinitely.
So there's a bit of a conundrum here. If we define the game as beating every boss and having final inputs, the game is technically over the same way it would be if you didn't do the glitch (which saves seconds). The issue is, the game is technically never over because the final cutscene never triggers.
Essentially, I'm asking for input if we should just allow this for any% runs going forward on the main category or create a secondary category for glitched runs. My main focus is that I don't really want a ton of different categories on the leaderboards unless they make some kind of logical sense (i.e. no Bike which could just be called No Power-Ups instead if you just skipped circlet).
If someone has a run they want to submit I'll make the category but I'm not going to put up an empty one. I just don't think it will be interesting to watch because the few levels that you move without a bike are not particularly difficult to jump through. Alex's speed is about the same running as jumping.
1: Yes
2: IIRC, sk8 didn't feel like routing that so feel free.
I added PS3/360/PS4/XB1 to the games list. There's a few other collections on various systems but those are probably most likely to ever be played. If anyone ever does run the game on another platform and wants to submit it as such, I'll add those categories too.
I'm guessing you couldn't shoot him either? The drug packages can suck if they happen on Tranquilandia. I wonder if that's a PC only glitch or not. I have an original Xbox again and might look into buying a copy just to see how much different/slower the game is.
If you are curious though, TASVideos has exact frame rates listed http://tasvideos.org/PlatformFramerates.html
If you're planning to run in an emulator, you can just use Kega Fusion (K-Fusion) and keep the video frame rate default as that is what the other runner used. It also shows FPS by default on the bottom left, which helps. I also went ahead and updated the rules to reflect this.
It is 100% allowed. I just didn't do it in my route because I never could get it consistently. As for the frames, it is somewhere around 1-15.
Souzooka was kind enough to give me some notes a while back so I'll just put some of it here for analysis:
Reputation level: Cumulative (Difference between previous and new) (not entirely sure what the surplus here means, probably has to do with reputation gain from story missions naturally)
Reputation level 1: Automatic
Reputation level 2: 150,000 (150,000) (~25,000 - ~30,000)
Reputation level 3: 500,000 (350,000) (~100,000 - ~105,000)
Reputation level 4: 1,000,000 (500,000) (~-381,000 - ~-391,000 SURPLUS)
Reputation level 5: 3,000,000 (2,000,000) (~1,409,000)
Reputation level 6: 6,000,000 (3,000,000) (~1,507,000)
Reputation level 7: 12,000,000 (6,000,000) (~4,992,000)
Reputation level 8: 20,000,000 (8,000,000) (~4,327,000)
Total cost from fronts is $49,985,000 ($1,585,000 of which is Little Cabana and Downtown), that leaves $48,400,000 for the rest, which at 10% equates to $4,840,000 total savings at 10% from the fronts, or $2,840,000 actual after getting Montana Holdings. Is it really worth saving 2.8m over the run? Just really depends on how your drug runs are going. If the savings can stop having to do an entire drug run from the islands it is probably worth doing but otherwise I'm not so sure.
Something I haven't quite mapped out. I know getting the henchmen as soon as possible with limo and plane is necessary for fast travel between locations. Pretty much all of the mansion, furniture, and decor upgrades are worth it. Vehicles you want to get the fastest ones as early as possible but generally you're going to be blowing money on them to hit the rep cap for Sosa. The investments are generally bad to get based on reputation/cost ratios except for Montana Records which gives 61k rep for 100k and Montana Productions at 1.2m for 443k rep (solid gold bust under Decor is 1m for 350k rep for comparison). Never tried seeing if the 2 million for Montana Holdings was worth it since it does reduce prices for fronts by 10% but the reputation gain from it is only 40k which is really a shitty ratio.
