Oh and uh, yeah I'm not playing with controller and am on Windows 10, and it's the pitch black several-seconds thing.

I'm glad to hear it doesn't effect IGT.

I guess it's just another reason to not die and to focus on not dying.

Yeah, even back when I was running this 7 years ago definitely the biggest thing I need to improve was consistency, and that's extra true now that I'm re-learning and de-rusting. I'm hitting about 1 hr 40 min on my first couple attempts in the past few days, mainly from sinking TONS of deaths into certain platforming segments and stuff like relearning the Twin Orcs quickkill.

But sometimes, tricks are just too tempting to learn even when they "shouldn't" be my improvement focus, yaknow?

Thanks for the pixel jump explanation. Looking at the Ziggy strat, it's kinda like what I do but much more refined. It just always felt clunky to me just tanking that blast and when I saw your run "skipping" that part by going over I was like "wait I need that".

But instead I should probably focus on J1 because I keep faceplanting that fight like crazy hahaha

Oh! My other question.

Why is it that sometimes when I hit respawn, the screen stays black for several seconds? In a speedrun, it's really frustrating.

Anything I can do to prevent it?

I'm playing around with running this again. I've noticed several things in recent high-end runs that are new to me, and of course they aren't explained in the runs themselves.

  1. In the attached screenshot, taken from Kanaris' run, how do you make this jump? I've been trying to replicate this in game and I can't seem to make it work. I never reach the far platform there. I notice right before this jump he respawns right when he hits the checkpoint, presumably to reset the cycle. I also notice a seemingly pointless hop right before he performs the jump. Can't seem to replicate this, so I'm assuming there's a mechanic somewhere here I'm not familiar with, unless the jump really is just that precise.

  2. I noticed in Kanaris' guide to autosplitting, he mentions "Avoid alt and F2 as these have functions in Wings of Vi." What function does alt have?

That's all I can think of for now but I'm sure there's more. Thanks!

Oh yeah, definitely include the mission results screen in the video, but I mean the real time minutes/seconds on the run shouldn't include load times and mission results right? Except in full game runs obviously.

I didn't know run ranking prioritized in-game timers though. RTA times don't matter as much then.

I started my Osaka run timer as soon as the first cutscene skipped and ended the timer as soon as the last cutscene began. Made sense to me since you can't control load times. Lemme know if there's a change to this and I'll update my run time.

BlueNexus, our in-game times are identical, but your real time stat is the youtube video length, including the after-mission screen. I say update your real time value to the actual mission duration! Shouldn't include loading and mission-results screen in IL times, right?
