I know there have been a few people asking for this, so here it is!
New centralised location for Cat Planet/Super Cat Planet discussion!
So today a glitch which freezes the timer was discovered by our reigning any% WR holder, aqwii. If you quit to menu, but manage to die after the pop sound, the timer will be frozen when you get back into the game.
Obviously it's not allowed on the leaderboards, but it's an interesting glitch which made a sub 20 second run possible. Currently 19 seems to be the limit, but who knows, maybe with super optimised movement 18 is possible.
So basically, for the 10th anniversary of Cat Planet's release, the dev released a web version of the game. http://love-game.net/catplanet/
While this is awesome, it should get its own category due to having very inconsistent (honestly, just plain bad) framerate as well as several gameplay influencing changes such as having only one fire bar in the room before pink switch, instead of 4. The starting positions in the room before that are also different. Aside from that, the font is different and there are some cosmetic sloped textures to make a lot of rooms look nicer.
Yep, it's been done. This is what happens when I get bored of main categories. Sub 10 is possible, sub 5 is the dream. (not 100% sure if it'll be humanly possible but it'll be very insane to get)
I'd like to see ILs become a thing now that the trainer exists. I think it would require video evidence though, due to the moving through walls thing. Thoughts?
Is it possible? My graphics card apparently doesn't support it but when I try to run the game it freezes at "Can't find any hardware accelerators".
I can't record without lagging the game a lot, and as you know even a little bit of lag SIGNIFICANTLY slows down the game. How can I prove my times?
I've been waiting 11 days so far for my runs to be accepted, and all mods except for 1 or 2 haven't checked the site in over a month. edit: nvm they've been verified now
I'm not exactly sure what the differences are, but I know the final boss in each version is COMPLETELY different. Can you run on any version?
edit: wait I'm a mod, lmao. Discussion?
Now that CP has banned most tempmail addresses, I have some questions. I have an email I could use, am I allowed to have the text in my clipboard before the run starts? I assume not, right?
Edit: Nevermind, I just tried tempmails before, I just found a working one. Nevermind.
So as you may've seen in the "Overworld OOB" thread, I've started to dig into the source code of the game to create a custom build. anshwo has helped a LOT (done most of the work :3 ), including basically writing all the code for the onscreen timer and getting the screen crisper.
This will include: Onscreen timer with milliseconds [Done]
Practice mode (Or seperate practice build) to warp to specific areas [In progress]
Reset button (R) [done]
Crisper display (watch RBDJellyfish's 100% run) [Done]
If anyone wants to suggest ideas to add that would be beneficial to runners, that would be great.
Edit: Uploading v1, without practice mode. I'll need to properly look into teleportation tomorrow.
In this run, the runner goes through a roof in factory to save time. I assume this counts as out of bounds, right? Just wanted to clarify with the mods. http://speeddemosarchive.com/demo.pl?CatPlanet_Deaths_240
Ok. So I was in the overworld, mashing jump while holding up (which is just what I do in the overworld), in the corner of the screen, transitioning to the next room, when I died, and in the room that I was going into. I don't know if this only occurs in that one spot, but this could become an interesting timesave for OOB%, possibly skipping half the overworld if my assumptions are correct. I'll post a video if I have to.
Edit: Decided to just post the video. Here it is:
Also, a bit off topic, but I found some consistent setups for death abuse, especially in lava caves 1.
So yeah. Have a PAL n64 with an everdrive, are the runs on there legit? Reset time is longer , obviously, and it runs at an accurate speed (as far as I know).
There are 3 or 4 people, including me, who are in the top 5 on the leaderboard just because we have a time for "real time".
Why not? There are quite a few speedrunning communities that have their respective discord channels, so why not? Plus this game has a LOT of runners, so it would be better than to just use the forums, which are dead anyway. Thoughts?
Is it possible to do without slowing down? If anyone can consistantly get it, how do you do it?
