Hi folks,

this is Zet from the LOVE 2: kuso moderator team. :)

I recently did some updating on kuso's autosplitter in the autosplitter.xml file, by linking it to majoneesi's (working) splitter and noticed that there exists an entry for LOVE as well. However, that one is currently broken and doesn't work.

May I suggest you replace the currently linked autosplitter with the LOVE splitter by majoneesi? I tested it and it works perfectly for real time and game time. Since I'm not a mod for this game, I don't want to replace it myself in the xml, but if you want to do so, the link to his splitter is this:

Cheers!

Hello all! After running this game for a while and having a lot of fun with it, I was thinking about the src leaderboards. Although only few people run this game (what I can't really understand tbh :( ) I wonder if the lb shouldn't be made a bit more systematic. I suggest the following:

Put three main categories on top:

  • kuso
  • LOVE
  • LOVE+kuso

Give all three categories two sub categories:

  • Any%
  • 100%

This will reflect game mode names directly from the game and leaderboard descriptions from the Steam leaderboards which will feel a lot more consistent with the game.

The other categories from the Demo can either stay next to them or get into the MISC section, I don't know if there is much interest in running those. Also, I think an IL board could be fun. We might have one on Steam with unbreakable WRs but having one here will allow Switch players to compete as well and users would be able to watch the recording of that level.

Furthermore, retime runs if necessary. I don't know if everybody is aware, but majoneesi has mentioned this in their WR description: The ingame timer is actually incorrect and will always display the final frame digit as the final decimal, which is not correct. Fortunately, as we have the exact frame count on the stats screen, we can easily derive the correct ingame time from there. I have informed Fred Wood about this on Twitter and he stated that he "should fix that", so hopefully ingame time will soon be correct, although with only one digit after the comma, it is maybe still better to re-calculate ingame time from frames.

I know such a task isn't done in a few clicks and many runs would have to get migrated and re-timed, but I think the lb would get a lot leaner and more logical. Some time ago I went through retiming the whole 140 lb myself, so I know what kind of a task this is. :D If mods want, I would help out with this! :)

Hello! As you can see from my submission I did the run on Switch. Maybe there's future runners who want to do so!

Although my future runs might very well be on PC.

Okay so, I thought we'd be through this, but apparently this topic is still bugging some people, so here we go again. I want to ask everyone interested in the debate to keep it to this thread only not because I want to keep the theme out of the Discord but because finding stuff again in the Discord is super confusing.

Here are the basic points:

  • The xbox 360 version was the first released version of the game and is the most different to any other version (hidden eggs, no hard route, different menuing, less checkpoints...)

  • In addition to the other changes, only the XBOX360 version has the option "Gore Filter" in the menu which will take some of the game's graphical morbidness. In one scene of the game, this will save a significant amount of time, as you won't have to wait for an animation to finish

  • There's other scenes in this version wich are slower than all the other versions though (see the video below for more)

  • Virtually nobody runs the game on 360 and those who did any% runs on it didn't use the gore filter

Some runners opted for banning the gore filter. Yajijy and me, the only active mods at the time, did not agree on that and we all had a nice little debate. I'll roughly outline my points again:

  • Gore filter is a legit release of the game, on a legit platform; it's an option you can activate without even using a cheat code. No external tools are needed to access it

  • Banning it would disregard the 360 version as a speedgame completely. People shouldn't be outraged because it saves time on the least popular version; people should just as well, in my opinion, be equally outraged if it turns out that very least popular version was the one which DIDN'T have the gore filter time save. This in our heads makes no points, so it seems improbably that banning the gore filter is in fact an objective and logical decision.

After a long debate the consensus seemed to be that by integrating a checkbox you can use when submitting the run which you would see in the lb's page would be a good way to deal with this problem. Now all of a sudden I see people demanding to get rid of the checkbox again but don't ban the gore filter after all which I would be okay with as well but I don't want to decide anything above anyone else just because I can.

Thanks to toothpickwilly who kindly compared 360 gore filtered against other platforms. See his video here:

Is it possible to have the same variable for multiple but not all categories?

E.g. in Limbo at the moment there is the "Gore Filter" option supposed to be available for two categories only but due to the way (it seems to me) it works, I can either apply it to one or all categories. And to apply it to a certain number of categories, the option appears twice in the filter which is inconvenient and ugly.

Is there something I'm missing? Or is there a possibility of an update in that regard in the future? :)

Cheers!

Hello runners,

after talking to Seb, I have created a Swapper discord server for all of us to join and talk about the speedrun and lore of this game.

Here's a link you can use to join it until the bots abuse it. MingLee Hope to see you all there! :)

Hello all! I don't know how many of the "old runneurs" are still active, but new members come along every once in a while. If you want an invite, pop me a message. I'd love to welcome old and new runners alike. :)

Hello fellow runners,

I am happy that this game still receives some attention from a small community. :) It was feared, quite some time ago, that one day this game might be optimized enough so that a very specific timing could or could not matter. With more and more runner achieving a sub17 time, this time practically has arrived. On the discord we were discussing the means of it and it seems to be only fair, to use a new timing method for the runs that doesn't include load times. Which frames are to be cut off is not 100% set in stone but for now we think, before the start of a level, the moment the orb disappears until either the trail appears or the avatar lands on the ground is a good option. Ideally, this new timing setup will be present in the upcoming autosplitter, hopefully. Expect the change to happen some time during the next week. littlebear, with the help of psvm, did a very good job, calculating the new times and all the runs will get the updated w/o load time in an extra column. I hope this won't create too many inconveniences for new runners and will, in fact, only make it more fair for all of us. :) Cheers!

Hello! Many Limbo runners are considering to switch to inside once it came out for pc and if it's runnable.

For routing and running purposes, we have created a Discord server and we invite everyone who is interested in joining. :)

Here's the permanent link:

Hello everybody,

in case you want to talk about speedruns of the game/optimizations/new skips (you wish!) or just the game and its mechanics in general, we have created a very late Discord server for that.

Feel free to join!

Hello fellow runners! As you might or might not have heard, the European Speedster Assembly is taking place this year from July 25th through July 31st. If you don't know what ESA is yet, it's pretty much a Games Done Quick event for European speedrunners and it's taking place in Sweden. You don't have to go there for the full week, if you come. Anyway, I was thinking, it would be ¤awesome¤ to have a LIMBO speedrun going on there. :) Since we have quite a few European (esp. French) runners around, I was curious whether one or the other might be interested in submitting their LIMBO run to ESA. I know I will, even though I am not the best LIMBO runner, but I'd like this game to be ran at a charity event. The problem with LIMBO speedruns is that watching them is not as intensive as running them yourself. To simulate this race against the clock, I thought the coolest thing would be, if an actual LIMBO race would be possible during ESA! But that for we'll need more runners. So, the question is: Would anyone besides me be interested in submitting LIMBO (Normal or Hard Route, maybe 9 eggs) to ESA? I think, a live LIMBO race would be a blast and I'm sure this whole event can be one. :)

I hope to hear some feedback by you lots! If your time isn't that great yet, don't worry, the ESA lets you improve before they finally accept or decline you.

Edit: I just realized, I haven't linked the official category in this forums. It's here: http://www.speedrun.com/esa2016/forum

Imprtant though: Gates for submissions open February 13th and close the 27th, so you only have two weeks to submit your game(s)! You can still get rejected/back out later, but not come in at a later date. Be sure not to miss those two weeks submitting your LIMBO runs!

Hey everyone, while learning to speedrun LIMBO, I realized, there's much to learn about this game that has been discovered already but is only circulating word of mouth from runner to runner. While the French community of LIMBO is quite strong, it's not easy finding tutorials and strats in other languages, e.g. English.

So I wondered, if we maybe should set up a small speedrunning wiki for limbo where we explain certain strats, timesaves, moves and the few glitches plus maybe some individual setups explained in depth for newcomers. Of course there should be individual pages for the runners as well. ;)

Would anybody else be interested or does it seem more like a waste of time?
