If I go to the Black Ops 2 Zombies leaderboard (https://www.speedrun.com/bo2zombies) I only see a fraction of the categories, sub-categories, etc that should be visible [image 1]. I can successfully tap on the "blank space" confirming that the categories are still there, and bizarrely I can zoom in to reveal the categories bit by bit [images 2 & 3]. I'm experiencing this on a couple of game leaderboards, but not all.

Wow didn't realise some people were getting 504s because of too many ILs lol. Fair enough and appreciate that it isn't a major issue, but is something on radar. Thanks for the quick response 👍🏼

When I go to my profile page and select Level Runs, the game at the top is a game that I haven't touched for 4 years and the game I've been actively running is underneath that.

Why are games under Level Runs not sorted newest to oldest the same as games under Full Runs? Is this something we could change?

Cheers.

Looks good for all the games I'm interested in catching. B)

Cheeky little request though: two of my Spyro pals won't be arriving until after my Spyro 2 run on Sunday and I'd really like them to be there for it. The evening timeslot is fantastic but if I could get a later day then that would be sick. Don't want to seem ungrateful though since you actually gave me a really good slot, lol. Just throwing it out there if there is some kind of switch around that ends up happening. :P

Thanks a bunch.

That's a common issue, and it's because each homeworld music in Spyro 2 is licensed from outside sources (ie; it wasn't written by Insomniac specifically for use in-game). I have seen Summer Forest and Winter Tundra get flagged in previous videos but normally it's Autumn Plains during Gulp skip, since that's when things like sound effects and commentary tend to get quiet.

Like Dact said: you could try to appeal it but there's not much hope.

Just wanted to post here saying that uni exams have been my focus for a bit and will be for the next few weeks. My Spyro 2 100% estimate is 1:55, and the practise runs I've done are all hitting around 1:52 so that's neat still. I PB'd since my submission too (1:49:13 -> 1:48:20) and once exams are over I'll be back on the grind again. Wasn't really sure how to go about this but I figured there was no harm in posting at least.

Thanks for the update on the scene, Flicky. Don't really have anything to add over what Henneko said but just wanted to show that I have been keeping eyes out on this. Just gotta keep trying until we get another event.

Hey Joester, it's nice to hear that the GYS race sparked some interest in running Spyro 2!

I hate to break it to you but we're fully aware that you can carry fireball across to a new game. You can do this by attaining fireball in Dragon Shores, quitting out to the main menu, then starting a new game. I guess we should clarify this in the rules of each category but we don't allow this in standard runs since getting fireball as part of the run adds an interesting element to routing the game and also in executing runs.

Also as you rightly stated: runs that start with fireball from the beginning are classed as NG+, since you have to play around with things outside of just booting up the game and going right into it. If anyone submitted a run where they start with fireball from the beginning then we'd filter it into the NG+ version of whichever category they ran (although no-one runs NG+ categories so we don't have leaderboards for them right now).

If you wanted to run the game with fireball from the start then by all means go for it - just be aware that there's a lack of competition since the vast majority of people stick with the regular categories for this game. :P

Nice to see we're actually ahead of the game this time around. I hope this goes through as planned so I can attend.

That's a real shame, but I guess it's not too major in the grand scheme of things. I mean for me the NEC (and Birmingham in general) is literally on my journey back home from uni anyway so I'd have to take the same trains regardless - and luckily I hadn't bought tickets or anything for the event so really there's no harm done.

Thanks anyway for letting us know, Flicky, and don't worry about it too much since it's not really your fault. Just gotta make i57 the best it can be. B)

Yeah I'm in the same boat as Natty: I've already booked my trains and written that weekend off so I'd very much like something to happen if possible. I don't really do a lot of fun stuff like this so I've been excited for it. Even if we do only get a couple of weeks' notice beforehand and the speedrunning event isn't as big as we thought, I can't imagine it will be any worse than i55 and we all still had a good time there. I'll probably go anyway just to hang out with others that are going tbh.

thread: Spyro

This thread mainly applies to the original trilogy since those are by far the most active of the Spyro series, but I guess this also applies to the other Spyro games too.

So as well as the standard categories for each game (Any%, 14 Talisman, 100 Egg, etc) there are plenty of other "silly categories" that people have run where the end-goal is completely arbitrary by all means, but multiple people have run and to a fairly competitive level. For this reason, myself and a fair number of other runners I've heard from would like these categories added as misc categories so we can track PBs.

Now ordinarily I probably would have just thrown up a bunch of misc categories without hesitation, but this topic was raised earlier in the year and a few people seemed to disagree with the addition of misc categories in general. I might have forgotten since then but from what I remember the main counter-argument was that too many misc categories could clog up the boards (particularly for Spyro 2 considering all the NG+ and No Double Jump categories).

In response to this it makes sense to me that we just limit which misc categories are added to the boards. In practice this would be easy since there are only a few misc categories that are actually somewhat competitive anyway (the vast majority being "meme" categories that have been run only a couple of times ever).

In particular, the categories that myself and others would like to see are 10 Portals (Spyro 2) and Bone Dance (Spyro 2, Spyro 3). If people want more categories in the future then we can always discuss them.

So there you have it: all the information you could possibly need for such a petty topic. And what kind of a thread would this be without a vital Strawpoll?

For a while now the Spyro mods have been receiving a fair amount of run submissions that either have no evidence at all, or simply a comment for the submission that says something along the lines of "Splits are on my Twitter". We're not incredibly strict on the evidence or details for every single submission, but we do like to keep some form of consistency so that's what I'm hoping to address here.

Generally this is the order of evidence you should try to follow when you submit a run:

  1. Video of the run via Twitch highlight or Youtube upload.
  2. Splits of the run via splits.io or Imgur.
  3. No visual evidence at all.

Firstly: video evidence. While it isn't mandatory for every single run to have video evidence (like a 3+ hour Spyro 1 120% run for example) it is very much preferred. For emulator players, video capture is incredibly easy with OBS and for console players with a capture card programs such as Amarec make video capture easy as well. If you have the option to record your runs, please do. If you would like to record your runs but you're not sure how, feel free to contact any of the mods and we'll gladly help you.

If you can't record video for whatever reason (console player without a capture card, emulator player with a low-end computer, etc) then that's okay but you will need to submit a splits.io link or an Imgur link of your completed splits from the run (completed meaning right after your run with the time saves/losses visible and not just any old set of splits). I understand that not everyone likes to run with splits all the time, but if you don't have a video of your run then this is pretty much all you can do.

In the case that you have no video of your run and no splits from your run either then it's up to the mods to discuss whether your run should be accepted or not based on things like how familiar we are with you as a runner and how your time ranks compared to other runs. We won't reject all runs without video evidence, but just don't be surprised if your run is rejected. Also: if we do reject a run for whatever reason, we always leave a comment explaining why the run was rejected to let you know.

Hopefully that cleared up some stuff, but feel free to contact any of the mods if there's anything you're curious about. :)

I'll second what Punchy said about being removed from the event at 6pm and also the shower situation. I'm not really sure how the shower situation could be handled since that's more related to the campsite than the event, but having access to our area 24 hours a day would definitely be a big improvement. If we don't get 24h access then at least a more formal and consistent time to leave rather than "You need to be out by 6pm except not really so you can carry on but we'll harass you a bit later."

Before I write any feedback here I want to say another huge thanks to Flicky and Planks for getting this all set up for us. Sure it was a bit of a bumpy ride (namely the main stage noise) but regardless it was a fantastic event and I had an absolute blast meeting all you guys and hanging out for the weekend. So thanks a bunch! Definitely coming to future events!

Feedback about organisers: I think the only real issue was lack of information leading up to the event. Responses on here were slow and not always as detailed as I would have liked, but you've already addressed this so that's fine. Everything else was great.

Feedback about Insomnia: I understand this was their first time holding a speedrunning section and they weren't sure how popular we would be and all that stuff, but I'm sure a recurring point will be lack of space and noise control. Obviously being near a super noisy place like the main stage wasn't great, but even so our placement wasn't all bad since we had a bunch of people walking by who stopped to watch the runs so that was cool. Also at times the practice area got a bit crowded and the spectating area for runs had a shortage of chairs as well, so a larger area both for practice and spectating would be nice. I'm not sure what tech they provided for us so I can't really comment on that. We seemed to manage pretty well otherwise though.

Feedback for the future: Really I think the only big issues that need to be addressed are where we're placed and how much space we have. With all the experience gained from this event I'm sure that future information posted on the forums will be quicker and more detailed than this time, as well as what we can expect when we arrive at the event itself. I do agree that 3 times a year might be a bit much though. I'm sure between all the UK's runners that might attend we'd have plenty of games to choose from, but I think it could result in a fair amount of repeated game submissions if the same few people attend each event.

Can't think of anything else now but if I do then I'll drop another post here. Here's to bigger and better UK events in the future. :D

@Zoton/Mango: I've just booked my train tickets and it seems I'll be arriving at Coventry station for 11:36am. I hope that's not too late for you guys to hang around for me but if it is then feel free to head off without me and I'll (hopefully) find my own way to the arena. :P

Unknown
United KingdomTyzerra8 years ago

Do we know what Twitch channel the runs will be streamed to? Would be nice to let people know.

Unknown
United KingdomTyzerra8 years ago

@Planks: Thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to bring some lengthy ethernet cables and a multi-socket adapter or two as well.

@Zoton: I'm familiar with both you and Mango so I'm sure I'll be able to spot you guys. :P I guess on the day if you guys arrive before I do then we'll agree on a cut-off time that if I don't reach you by then you can just go off without me and I'll sort myself out.

Unknown
United KingdomTyzerra8 years ago

That sounds like a good shout, Zoton. Essentially my aim is to reach Insomnia at a time so I can watch Mango's run, lol, and travelling from the station to Insomnia with the man himself seems like a pretty good way to do that. B)

From all the trains I've looked at it seems that I'll likely be arriving at Coventry station around 11:30am. I imagine that'd be fine with you and Mango?

Ah, thanks Kitty. I guess if there are multiple of us arriving at similar times then we could share a taxi or something.
