We've added a new rule to each category regarding video proof, if your time beats the example time for that category it will require video proof to be approved. This is to ensure the leaderboards stay competitive and there isn't drama about fake times or cheaters. You can find each of these times in the "View rules" section of each category, but I'll list them below as well.

(Side note to make sure to include the VS race settings in the video of your run so we know you used the correct rules)

32 Tracks - 1:17:00 32 Tracks (No Skips) - 1:19:00 32 Tracks (No Items) - 1:15:00 32 Tracks (No Items, No Skips) - 1:16:30

Nitro Tracks - 38:00 Nitro Tracks (No Skips) - 40:30 Retro Tracks - 38:30 Retro Tracks (No Skips) - 39:30

Mushroom Cup - 8:00 Flower Cup - 8:30 Star Cup - 9:15 Special Cup - 11:00 Shell Cup - 7:00 Banana Cup - 10:00 Leaf Cup - 10:15 Lightning Cup - 10:30

Thanks for removing them, I went through all times on the skips category and the top 20 times on the no-skips category that had video proof to see which ones still have strategic/basic item sets instead of balanced/recommended (ntsc-u/pal game wording differences) and there were only 2 (listed below) but a lot of people don't actually have video proof of their runs. Might be a good idea to require it for future submissions?

WiiLord95 32 tracks 1:14:47 Estaloy62 32 tracks 1:15:10

Also seeing as it's the same two I'm guessing all of their speedruns have used this item set, so it might be a good idea to go through all of them and watch the first 30 seconds of their VOD to see the rules they used.

basic items remove all rng, there's no point of having an items category if we aren't going to use the normal mkw item set. we might as well just have 2 no item categories if basic is allowed.

Since the item set you're supposed to use are no longer listed in the rules, many times on the leaderboards have been taking advantage of the "basic" item set. It removes blue shells, shocks, and other power items from the roulette giving you mostly only green shells and shrooms. It shouldn't be the way the game is run because it's essentially the no item category.

Some times which use this item set are

G37NEO's 32 tracks (no skip) 1:14:59 (he also played on dolphin which cuts loading times by even more than an ISO and allows savestates)

WiiLord95's 32 tracks 1:13:59 (he doesn't even show the rules and he didn't show 3 tracks from his run on video, meaning the total time could be faked/illegitimate)

Estaloy62's 32 tracks 1:14:07

I'm sure there are more times on the leaderboards like this but these are just the ones I found. The fact that these times are allowed is extremely unfair to those who play with the "recommended" item set (the default one for the game) because they lose approximately 2 minutes against someone on the "basic" item set just to blues and shocks alone.

If I remember correctly this request was made via pm to the moderators of this section but the request was ignored, so I ask again that you please update the rules to clarify which item set must be used, and remove all basic item set times from the leaderboards, or at least hire new people who will.

they save way too much time on the loading screens, so a run on digital that is slower than one on disc can still make up over a minute for it by doing absolutely nothing. it's simply not fair.

Hello, thought I would reply to add some insight. I watched through the entirety of NEO's 1:14:59, and I believe he heavily manipulated RNG. When it comes to running this game, blues and shocks are really crucial items and come at a rate of roughly 1 of each per race, meaning by the end of the run you should've been blued 32 times, and shocked 32 times. In NEO's run, he was blued 4 times and shocked 0 times. The chances of this happening without RNG manipulation is impossible, both shocks and blues are extremely common in this game. You can try this for yourself against CPUs, see how many attempts it takes you to get even a mere 2 races in a row without a blue or shock.

Also, to support the argument about graphic changes on dolphin, Coconut Mall's escalators appear more glossy from a distance and become dark as you get closer, whereas on the Wii they aren't glossy at all and stay the same colour as you approach.

All in all, I think it's really sad that NEO is trying to take advantage of those who don't know enough about Mario Kart Wii to tell the difference. All signs point to this run being on an emulator, and being cheated in one way or another. My suggestion is you just ban this guy entirely from the website, he's not to be trusted.
