An argument was made for allowing prebuilt houses etc. in Freeplay as long as it its own category. No objections were made to that idea so that has now been implemented, the rulesets updated, and your runs re-approved for the correct categories.

Hey Aaron,

First of all, I apologise that I didn't contact you beforehand. That is my mistake as mod for the game.

The ruleset has been updated for all the categories and was agreed upon by the community on Discord (https://discord.gg/aTws5BZ). The Discord has been a sticky post for more than two years at this point.

Since we don't want like 100 different categories, we decided to change the rules for the category instead of creating a new category. There has been an argument for creating a Legacy tab where runs that were previously approved but no longer fit into the category can go. This would be to not make it seem like someone cheated or something like that. It hasn't been decided yet but feel free to join the Discord and let everyone know what your opinion is on the matter so we can make a smart decision.

Thanks for the thoughts on the categories.

As I understand it, "Level Returns" is another way of saying backtracking. Like, not completing a goal until later when you go back to it. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Personally, I think the All Careers and All Goals rules are fine as they are, reason being that most of the time, simplicity is better. There are so many options for categories if we wanted to, which means we have to be really careful with the ones we actually do add.

I can see a situation happening where having backtracking is faster but then one day someone finds out it's actually faster to do everything without backtracking. That's a much more interesting situation to me with much more room for innovation within the category.

However, I am always open to arguments for and against, so you can maybe elaborate on some of the arguments for the addition of that parameter or if anyone else has anything to say about this matter, please do so! :)

I like the current set of categories. Thank you for updating them.

However, I've been thinking about the §500,000 category. Does it make sense to lower the amount? I have no idea how long the category would take with the current amount. When I added it, I simply looked at other Sims games' categories and found the category interesting.

I just thought of something. What if we just don't have a Maxed Job category, since it will already be covered by having the individual careers?

I think it looks great, however I agree it looks kinda weird to both have the Maxed Job and the individual careers.

The thought behind was that some people might wanted to try getting the fastest time in a career which is normally not runnable in the Maxed Job category. I could see myself try to run each career, but if only very few people would do it, it doesn't make sense to have a designated category for it.

Let me know what you think with that in mind.

Also, sorry for the long response time -- I have quite a busy time at work and school at the moment. I will try to check in more often.

@GoldenAppleGames, would you help adding the categories for each career? Can't find any good way (design-wise) of adding them. They will take up a lot of space if added individually side by side.

That's a nice idea, but will people actually run All Careers?

You could, technically, have your laptop show a timer and record both the tv and laptop with your phone :) It may not look that great but it's a solution if you can't afford a capture card :)

From this moment on, WR runs will only be approved if there's proof, that be a video with a timer. This is to prevent fraud, even though I don't believe there has been anyone trying to cheat.

Runs that are not WR or close to, will be approved as usual.

I've been busy the last couple months, so haven't seen the replies before now.

I completely agree about adding the GBA version as a separate game. That is why I myself added the console version without anything about the handheld version. I don't own the handheld version but it would be fun trying to run though :D

I'm the new moderator of The Sims Bustin' Out and I'm trying to set up the categories for this game.

There are two settings called Regions / Platforms obsolete each other. I know what the words mean, but don't see how it works in practice. Can someone help me?

I've added some categories and rules to them. What do you guys think of it? Any suggestions to make it even better?

I completely agree with you about the expansions. It should definitely be a category by itself if you want to include expansions.

About tutorial, I think it should be discussed whether to allow skipping it or not. As long as there are set rules.
