Sorry for the late response, haven't checked the forums in a little while. Yeah you can do a run with the PS4 livestream feature and it's still valid, no worries.

We've now added PC Drop Mod as a category to the boards. We're opting for slightly different implementation than initially suggested, but it's practically the exact same thing. Doesn't get in the way of any of the already established categories, while being much less work on moderator end to accomplish the initially proposed implementation. Hope to see some runs put forth on the boards!

Is it possible to set a subcategory to only apply to a specific subcategory? We recently had a mod developed in our speedrun to make drop RNG of two abilities that were a make or break it for the run 100%, and we're looking to add a Modless and Modded subcategory to only the PC leaderboards. However since the platforms were done as subcategories, I can't figure out how to make these subcategories only apply for the PC subcategory. Am I missing something?

The creator of the mod already has a really good plan to make sure we have a visible indication of the mod being enabled. We are going to have some enemies give 1 more gil than intended or reward .01 more EP than intended. Not even remotely close enough to have any difference on the run, meanwhile giving us a verification that it's enabled so it cannot be used to cheat.

I've been kicking the idea around with some community members about the addition of a category which mods the drop rate of Imperil and Magnet to 100%. The purpose for this category would be to provide a way of running the game that eliminates RNG drops that make or break the run, making a much more fun and less aggravating way of doing speedruns of Lightning Returns without having to grind for insane RNG. I feel this category would make a great race and marathon category as it eliminates the major do or die drops of the run, as well as just being a different way to play the game if you don't enjoy sinking in lots time waiting for the stars to align in a run with drops. The runs would both play out identically the same, also serving as a good measurement for your potential in regular runs.

My proposed idea is to add a row of subcategories, specific to only the PC version titled "Modless" and "Modded" (names subject to change.) The present version of the run, the "legit" version of the run, would remain the default category, therefore causing no harm or taking away prestige from hard earned non-modded runs. I made a rough mock-up to demonstrate the idea:

For the sake of definitively concluding that IGT is 100% accurate, it would be nice for a run to be manually timed, loads removed, and the result compared to the IGT. If the results are the same, then it's fair to say that IGT is 100% accurate. It's hard to conclude that IGT is 100% accurate by the second since you can only see the seconds on the IGT on the final results screen.

Edit: Yidamoda just PB'd by 4 seconds RTA but PB'd 40 seconds on IGT. That doesn't make sense.
forcing people to buy pros
Nobody is forcing anyone to buy a Pro. Pro is only going to be relevant to a small group of people who are pushing for top times. And as far as solid state, you can get an SSD for your PS4 for as low as $30 (half as much as you paid for the game.) possibly even lower depending on size and if you get it on sale, so I really just don't see money as a valid argument.

There is no correlation between not wanting to use IGT and not being in favor of the DLC keyblades. It's two entirely separate issues, that's not a good argument to make.

Also not to be nitpicky, but it's spelled "competitive". Not "competative".

As far as IGT goes, while my preference is real time, I'm not against using IGT only if it's 100% accurate and there is no way to abuse it.

 1. Start at brightness confirmation seems most appropriate. Ending on beam feels best to me.

 2. No opinion.

 3. I feel that all content not available within the base game shouldn't be allowed. This includes pre-order bonuses as someone purchasing the game in the future won't have access to them.

 4. No opinion.

 5. Splitting up categories over hardware clutters the leaderboards tremendously and makes them look really messy. I also feel that it just feels weird to say "This person has the PS4 SSD Beginner Record" and "This person has the PS4 HDD Beginner Record!" "This person has the Pro HDD Beginner record!" etc, I think that outlines my point. It's so much clutter that it would look awful and put everyone into a little category of their own instead of having more people to compete against and aspire to achieve a faster time than. IMO the ideal setup is to have console type (PS4/Pro) and Hard Drive (HDD/SSD) as variables so it is noted on the leaderboards what hardware was used.

On a side note, if KH3 does see patches in the future which have an impact on the speedrun in some way, I feel it is best to require runs to be played on latest patch to be submitted.

Edit: I also think it's appropriate to start accepting runs on the leaderboards. We're past the point of the "day 1 WR memes" and people are doing actual runs now. It'd be nice to have a more public easily accessible record of who is running so I can follow runners and keep more up to date with what is happening with the run. It will only help advance things by making it easier to find runners to follow and communicate and share ideas with each other.

I went ahead and added every mod from the FFXV page over to here, so presently I don't think there is really a lack of mods. Runs being verified or categories being added if need be shouldn't be an issue.

Note: Must be using Livesplit in order to use Load Remover. Load remover will be required to submit runs to the PC leaderboards.

 1. Visit https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZclFhqKlLDhSmI2ekYO23Zkq3gjxQ10T/view and download the .asl file

 2. Open Livesplit, right click anywhere on livesplit, and click Edit Layout

 3. Click the Plus sign on the left hand side, click control, click Scriptable Auto Splitter.

 4. Double Click Scriptable Auto Splitter in the list, click browse, and locate the FF15LoadRemover.asl file.

 5. Double click on Timer, and change Timing Method to Game Time (from real time)

 6. Right Click on Livesplit, hover over Compare Against, and click Game Time.

enemy stats (including defense) is reduced in easy mode. enemies take about 20% more damage roughly, and if you die (game over) you get revived by Carbuncle.

I think a platinum trophy speedrun would be better suited as a "completionist speedrun" for FF15 personally. 100% is a really tricky and potentially controversial category because defining what 100% is would be hard to do and probably vary from person to person. I don't really know much about the game outside of the main story, could you elaborate a little on what this quest is and why you have to go to NG+ for it?

Added it under miscellaneous if you would like to submit the run, or I could put it up there for you. :)

Holy shit. Compatibility mode breaks this game. So far I've experienced a few things. First off there seems to be some strange input lag on some inputs. Secondly the black market dealer (sorry forgot name, think that's close enough) wouldn't talk to me to give me potions. Lastly the biggest thing so far is I seem to have infinite sprint (must be some glitch being caused as a result of the framerate). Another thing to note, I tried recording and for some reason it seemed to take a huge hit on my frame rate, going from stable 144 to jumping around the 100ish area. I will continue to edit this post with any more findings until my post gets too cluttered and long.

Edit: Continuing through the prologue, I am unable to interact with the red switch on the wall, it just appears and disappears infinitely over and over without being able to press it. Changing from fixed to dynamic allowed me to press it though. (Would probably also work with the black market dealer)

Edit: Ok, this just got even more broken. I was able to run right past Lumina and skip the Zaltys fight. The cutscene to finish the prologue did trigger and I successfully completely skipped the prologue fight.

Edit: So it appears any press X/A to interact options just will not work on Dynamic (Compatibility mode), so talking to any NPC, opening a chest, interacting with an object on the wall.

Edit: Completely skipped escaping from the Zaltys fight at the bookshelf as I had obviously never fought it, however I am unable to leave the Ark as I am given a prompt that tells me I must complete all tasks on the ark, one being using EP abilities during Zaltys fights.

Edit: One important thing to note is that I believe compatibility mode causes the game to be ran at the same FPS as your monitor's refresh rate. So anyone with a 60hz monitor might not be able to achieve the same result as the FPS would be displaying at the same FPS as it is on Dynamic without compatibility mode. I'm not sure which monitor D_winds is using, but I'm assuming a 120hz, as he noted his FPS is capped at 120. I am using a 144hz monitor and my FPS is capped at 144.

Edit: Next big discovery. In Temple of the Goddess, the opening cutscene does not trigger and you do not fall down to the bottom, allowing you to skip a large section of the temple. Switching frame rate to Fixed caused Yuel to interact with me and spawn the platforms. Pretty huge time save.

Edit: Zefferss pointed out the next big question. Does compatibility mode work on 13 or 13-2?

Edit: Tested to see if cutscene trigger for day ending was skipped, but unfortunately it still occurs.

Edit: Cyclops fight can be avoided, but there appears to be no way to access the area you normally do post Cyclops fight as the game relocates you to it after you kill Cyclops.

Edit: After the Guards at the end of the game, you can skip the cutscene where Noel appears and holds off the Chimera. You also can reach the next area by going down the steps and jumping through the door (the top part of the door seems to not have collision on it and you just clip right through it.) Perhaps this can lead to early end game? This could be huge.

Edit: Did a test from new game to tutorial skip prompt appearing on screen and saved 3 seconds in loads with Compatibility mode. Also tested the 1st end of day load (old route) and saved 3 seconds. Will probably save 1-2 minutes in loads over the course of the whole run. On top of having infinite sprint and any potential skips that will come from this, I estimate this will cut at least 5 minutes off of the run.

Edit: Something to note is that as a result of interactions that involve X/A button not being possible in compatibility mode, there will be many points in the run that we will have to change back and forth from Fixed to Dynamic. A lot. Potentially a script could be made to change from Fixed to Dynamic in 1 button press to make it much easier to deal with? Changing back and forth manually is extremely annoying and obnoxious to do.

Personally I don't think graphical changes are enough to invalidate a run, and higher framerates/better loads is only better. Certainly open to discussion, but that's how I feel. With that aside, compatibility mode seems to be a really good thing for this game. It seems to lock the game's framerate to your monitor's refresh rate I think as mine locked to 144 FPS. I will possibly do a few load tests and report back any information.

United StatesTheOOT7 years ago

Personally I would say yes it falls under the description of what I would consider to be DLC and thus not allowed in a run. (Also as it's only a temporarily available thing, runs done after it is unavailable would be at a significant disadvantage.)

United StatesTheOOT7 years ago

Defining what exactly is DLC is a bit tricky, but for the time being, we're defining DLC as: Optional downloadable content (paid or free, key word ¤optional¤). Having DLC is fine, as it seems in some cases depending on platform and version of the game you own, you can not delete the DLC. Using DLC to gain time is not allowed, but simply having the DLC does not invalidate a run.

United StatesTheOOT7 years ago

I don't think it is really subjective, it is fact that it is trivializes the game tenfold, there is really no strategy whatsoever to 1 shotting every encounter with magic or 1 warp strike and there is hardly any movement to consider when you have absurdly high mp levels and just spam warp strike everywhere. There is hardly any menuing required, maybe switch your spell from time to time, but that's it. If the game handled NG+ differently, then I would maybe feel differently about it, but you absolutely can not convince me there is any skill element to a NG+ speedrun and for that reason no purpose to add it as an official category. I also think it's a bit silly that Pixql (or GhostScit?) is asking his friends to come into the thread and post in an attempt to bolster his opinion by making it appear that more people share his opinion about it. I already know that you, Pixql, and Ghostscit all seem to have ties to each other in some way and it seems like you're just posting in an effort to grief myself or other users in the post, and it's just a waste of everyone's time that is involved.

United StatesTheOOT7 years ago

I just can't help but laugh at your posts at this point Pixql. You are full of nothing but ignorance and hate, keep 'em coming.

United StatesTheOOT7 years ago

¤ANYTHING¤ could be considered a speedrun. If you play a video game, with a start and end defined, with a timer going, that is a speedrun. There is no such thing as calling one a "challenge run" and one a "speedrun", they are both the same thing, one is just forcing restrictions on itself to raise the difficulty to a level they desire, in the case of my example. With that established, both NG+ and my example are very much arbitrary to the standard of what a Final Fantasy speedrun is (yes, some games do acknowledge NG+ as a category, but the way in which it is handled from one game to the next is obviously not the same and not comparable to each other).
