that'd be fair enough

GermanyTeo-5 months ago

I personally find it super frustrating

Everyone calls ready - then 1 person randomly says "oh wait i forgot to hit the record button or whatever" -> now 8 ppl have to delete and recreate the character just to meet this pointless rule.

  • What Jym is saying also holds true. While this also is "doable" with a time stamp, not everyone is aware of this feature and thus watches ppl sitting in the menu for x minutes.

PS: I haven't cut my videos to the character creation in either of our runs as far as I remember - mods aint checking for this :P

Did a little proof of concept run: https://imgur.com/fvZor71 not sure if anyone really wants to do this as a competitive speedrun

  • I f'd up my boots initially, so the run is not really "valid" even though it didn't really give me much benefit. Might have gotten -1 frame on fhr for ~20 levels (lvl 61-80) or 1.5 hours until i noticed...
  • There are 2 sleeping breaks and 2 or 3 food breaks in there. -> Sleep breaks always showed gear + xp before the end of the session and at the start of the session to show nothing has been tempered with
  • I guess with selecting the "perfect terror zone" you can do it in 26-28 hours on sorc

I have been sitting through a lot of footage over the last 2 days and don't see any concrete evidence for cheating, both either case of Vela or Bender. While I do see weird behaviour, this is not enough for any action taken towards either. That being said, this "weird behaviour" can be translated to virtually any current Top 10 runner, or even myself in the past. Sometimes bad reads can lead to good outcomes, this should not be placed under the umbrella of cheat allegations.

I can't see anyone bringing concrete evidence for past runs at this point. RNG has been discussed thoroughly in this topic. Some ppl have over average RNG, some have below average RNG, and some ppl spent massive time on runs to "force" the RNG to happen.

It would be great if there was a way to check the integrity of runs with a tool. I can see that working for at least checking the game files, but I can't see a solution for any Maphacks used on a separate screen.

I hope that we can close this topic and get Bender back to submitting runs. The leaderboards are just meaningless if runs are not being submitted by any runner.

I can't speak for the D2R mod-team, but this is my conclusion for the LoD runs.

Hey guys,

I am going to keep my reply here as short as I can:

Yes, Bender has approached me as a LoD moderator to look into your runs. He gave me a list of examples that on first glance look very suspicious, but on closer inspection can be explained reasonably (for the most part). If you want to go into detail on this, feel free to reach out to me on discord. (I haven't dug past Bender's list yet, so there isn't much I can say beyond that due to time restraints)

One conclusion on both your accusation against Bender and vice versa for me is: Diablo 2 is an RNG based game. Sometimes you get lucky, most of the time you don't. By playing the game over and over, you increase your chance to eventually get lucky. And you can increase your chances by using Magic Find gear. Item drops can never be the base to accuse ppl from cheating. I can even say that I found Titans on 2 Amazon runs (1 on SC, 1 on HC) within a week. I was surprised that ppl didn't accuse me back then...

For the animation swap: I must say, even with a large amount of practice years ago, I couldn't get close to your accuracy on hitting it every time. And as far as I know, animation swap needs to have 2 buttons pressed within a frame of each other. Else, you could just glue a piece of wood on your keyboard. Is this evidence? No. But it certainly can feel weird to ppl that tried to achieve this.

On the topic of Slimo: He openly said that he cheated in his runs and then deleted them by himself. While that wasn't the decision of the Moderator team at the time, the pure statement needs to be taken seriously, even if he later reversed it, so we decided to not bring his runs back.

On the topic of Egg: There was a thorough investigation into a run that looked spliced. After finding a lot of circumstantial evidence, we decided to ask the speedrun.com mods on how to proceed. They saw it similar to us, we didn't have enough evidence to permanently ban him, but at the very least to remove the run in question.

And finally: Moderators cannot force anyone to do anything. And while I do understand the notion of wanting them to apologize, there is nothing we can do for you there. If anything, it feels like this should go both ways in the end.

Cheers Teo

nvm got it figured out i think <.<

GermanyTeo-2 years ago

Are we doing this on 2.3 or on the single player ptr 2.4 version? ;)

GermanyTeo-2 years ago

last minute entry with no practice here KEKW

GermanyTeo-2 years ago

We can talk on discord at some point to make this happen - dont have much time during the week - so let me know when on the weekend works

GermanyTeo-2 years ago

Heyo,

there are multiple problems with the way the single player categories are set up and with limiting factors from speedrun.com which make this request not really possible to set up properly:

  • The Classes (Sorc, Amazon, etc.) are set up as a GLOBAL variable which forces them to be in every main category being added. Solution: If we were to undo this, we would have to run through every single run again and set them up as variable for each main category individually
  • Sub-Categories can not be set to specific number of players. Solution: This would mean we would have to add a main category for all possible groups: 2-8 players which will lead to a bit of a mess which could be hidden in Misc - I guess?

That is a lot of work for 1-2 groups that maybe still play 8-mans in LoD every other month?

GermanyTeo-2 years ago

From my PoV I can only see separated leaderboards (basically seasons) for this work.

The problem that I see is that it is not easily visible which patch is used, and the filter system on speedrun.com is still pretty bad:

https://imgur.com/NwypXNa

I think this is not very intuitive, and people might never realize that different patches are on the leaderboard in the first place.

I haven't looked a speedrun.com in a while, so I don't know what is possible after this revamping that apparently happened.

GermanyTeo-2 years ago

Hey guys,

just wanted to point out the problem of patches in d2r. 2.3 is a good example that killed a major bug (Mercenary bug) which makes it a lot harder to compete with already existing records.

With randomly patched stuff, there needs to be a protocol / solution for this.

Just wanna throw this in here - might be relevant info I spend a little time looking into slimos jail leveling and the loading screens with -ns seem to vary, depending on how much time he spends within a run

He does a total of 69 Jail runs to get to level 18 20-21 of them were with Frost nova - they took around 1 Second of load time total 48-49 with nova - These runs had load time ranges from 1 - 3 seconds

While using frost nova and in the first couple of levels with nova, the loading screens were shorter - but he was spending more time within the jail The more damage nova did, the longer the loading times were

Quick (konservative) math suggests: 20 * 1 seconds = 20 Second time loss compared to our ingame timer 49 * 2.5 seconds = 122.5 Second time loss compared to our ingame timer

Adding up to 2 mins and 22.5 Seconds If i subtract this from his total time - that run barely stands as WR there - not accounting for loading screens outside of the leveling proccess, which I ASSUME cant be more then 30 seconds Therefore I would estimate slimos runs to be somewhere between 56:30 to 57:00 when put into IGT

Looking at the average time difference from IGT vs RTA on the jail runs - we are looking at around 4 minutes

Extrapolating that to the RTA time with Sound would be above 1 hour

DISCLAIMER: This was a very "scratch the surface" analysis - I think I will go into more detail on this some time soon, as the "counting runs" method is a bit sketchy

Rework of leaderboard layout is done

feel free to submit your runs again. :)

GermanyTeo-3 years ago

Hey guys,

we are working on the leaderboard layout and this will probably take untill the end of the week.

Please DON'T submit any runs until we announce its completion.

Thanks :)

GermanyTeo-3 years ago

someone took out the dictionary ;)

The reason for this approach is to not mess around the current leaderboard order - there is some issues by having one or the other column empty.

Would love to rephrase the column headers, but thats just not an option...

GermanyTeo-3 years ago

A couple of additions from me:

The leaderboard changes will take some time, please be patient. This also applies to the trouble shooting guide and the guidlines for video submissions.

Also, since the adjusted rule set is a bit more relaxed, we ask you to look out for "fishy runs" on the leaderboards.

To report a fishy run or to appeal a rejection, we have implemented a Text-Channel in discord. Feel free to point these things out, so we can take a closer look.

We are all human, cant watch every one from beginning to the end, and we can make mistakes. :)

EDIT: Also, to anyone that had their runs rejected due to ingame-time, please resubmit your runs.

GermanyTeo-3 years ago

Adding the RTA times for those runs that only have submitted IGT atm and make RTA the Default would be one option, however that probably (I didn't check this yet) would make a mess of the IGT order due to the inconsistent save and quit hang times.

Here is an example from your vice city link: https://i.imgur.com/nUUPTzd.jpg 12th and 13th would change places if the time "without loads" would count as default

GermanyTeo-3 years ago

The reason was and still is this result how it would look: https://i.imgur.com/9VpU1Lx.png

Left side -> Default IGT Right side -> Default RTA

And no, there is no option to say "Default is the time that is set or similar to "mix" them together.

Also, people didn't like having 2 columns with times displayed - It makes the leaderboards confusing to read.

Excuse the terrible paint job - Dont wanna mess up the leaderboard more by trying to visualize again there...
