Main:

  • No Sqwwoob
  • Any% (no ACE)
  • Hundo%
  • No WW/OoB (still better than no S&Q :P)

Misc:

  • Legacy
  • All Instruments
  • Any% ACE

No

(I dont have a time on the leaderboard yet, because i just didnt get a good run that i'm happy with yet)

But we should add a hundo run that allows it as a misc category as there's plenty of interest for that in the community.

Just a random thought on Heart piece duplication: How about we say: Heart Piece duplication is also allowed, BUT you have to pick up each individual HeartPiece at some point in the run (who would want to dupe them then anyways?)

GermanySurrealGuy8 years ago

A category split could be the best choice, imo. Maybe just ban the bomb glitch (100%, no Bomb glitch) in one of the categories. That way we can show off the most we can in that 100% category (full trade sequence and collecting 20 or 26 Seashells). The other one allow every bomb glitch (most notably early Bra & Seashell dupes --> this run will likely also incooperate the early Hookshot glitch). So both 100% runs are fairly different from each other.

GermanySurrealGuy8 years ago

Of course you can say, that we should allow it just because it is just another use of the bomb trigger. But I feel that it is something different this time. So I also agree with Zorlax and the other buds for the same reasons. I think of 100% as a "collection"% run. Duping just seems very wrong in this, because you just collect the same seashell over and over again. You also have to ask yourself the question "Will 100% still be fun if we allow this?".

Looks great :) Also works perfectly on Mac via Wine for me!

Dashing past the D4 keyhole in S&Q --> running up the mountain --> thinking:"God dammit, not again!"

Edit: I also tend to take the warp hole just once after getting the Fish Key, and just dash towards Goponga Swamp (is that a sign that i should run no S&Q?)

Yes. Make it a misc. category :)

GermanySurrealGuy8 years ago

Don't know where to put this, so I'll put it here, so it doesn't get forgotten. This is the Nightmare Moldorm swag kill (stop dash with shovel, then equip sword and poke him 8 times). It is very easy to master and very consistent (and looks really sexy). Runners that tend to drop Moldorm might want to use this strategy :) + you get to have Powder equipped for Blob as default (which is pretty cool, if you don't get the Blob QK). It is also not that much slower than the normal sword mashing strat.

Equips would be as followed: Enter Egg with Boots + Bombs --> switch to Sword + Powder on Blob --> switch to Boots + Shovel after last hit on Aga --> switch to Boots+Sword when you stopped your dash --> Feather+Arrows on Dethyl

I agree with Zorlax. Returning BowWow +Ocarina is probably the best safe strat at the moment and much easier if you're starting out.

However I would put the optimal route (Dog/no Ocarina) on the spreadsheet. If someone does a video tutorial for the new route, I would highly suggest doing the safe route there. Many new runners will learn the run by watching a tutorial, so they start off with the easy route. That's my opinion. (But of course we can also just put both routes on the spreadsheet)

GermanySurrealGuy8 years ago

You can also add in a pretty neat safe strat. Returning BowWow after D2 costs around 34 seconds, but makes for an easier Rooster skip and deletes the chance of softlocking at Walrus skip (so no subpixel setup) + you don't have to go into the desert cave before fighting Lanmola (saves about 7 seconds I think). It also makes PoP routing for D5/D6 much easier. Returning BowWow + getting Ocarina+Manbo after D2 is about 1:10 slower from my timing (could be wrong though, but definitely slower).

Also returning BowWow after D2 in S&Q basically loses no time at all, because you can S&Q after the FishKey skipping the desert owl and some backtracking.

GermanySurrealGuy8 years ago

Oh ok, i just tested that with the Moblin dead. So i think ill just get hit by the moblin if BowWow isn't hungry and then jump into the screen boundary and double buffer. Jumping in a cardinal direction doesn't change the subpixel, right?

GermanySurrealGuy8 years ago

Nice guide, Clude! Fooled around with the Frog Song skip for about 15 minutes, but could find anything important. Double Buffer is also 100% consistent. Sometimes you get the "fast" second bomb, sometimes not.

One thing to note: You never need (or are even able) to double buffer the bomb trigger in D7 and the trigger to open the egg. These cutscenes start before you can even open your equip screen. This has to do with the fact that you transition while holding a cardinal direction (up/down). However, if you f.e buffer up+left+bomb to the egg screen, you are able to double buffer. Always buffer straight up (or down) + bomb for those two bomb triggers.

I found a use for hundo% ! You can initiate the dialogue with the SaveTheGuy-Guy on the mountain with Event trigger skipping going through the cave up there (saves maybe 5 seconds or so?). Should be the only trade in the sequence where this works/saves time.

Ok ok ok :D My vote also goes to the old ruleset, except for banning Blaino skip for the future.

GermanySurrealGuy8 years ago

My understanding now is this: We basically defined OoB as standing/walking on ("unreachable" - the game didn't intend that Link's sprite is on one of those tiles) ceiling tiles and transitioning to another screen through a wall. Maybe we could also ban standing in walls/solid objects in general (would only affect the backward D6 SJ afaik). SJs shouldn't be banned though, because we sort of jump over a wall/solid object and don't really walk through. Don't know if that makes sense, someone will probably find one or a thousand loopholes in my definition.

But I think we are definitely getting somewhere and we can all start running this game again :)

GermanySurrealGuy8 years ago

I also agree with Zorlax. The only well-defined categories at the moment are any% and No major glitches (Legacy%). I was also thinking that our current ruleset is really weird, but in retrospective it worked out really nice. We should just go and disallow Blaino skip from now on, because that's what Seabass' ruleset said (no big deal, no real need to delete/unverify runs because of that). To the (maybe OoB) SJ in D6: I found another way around that a few weeks ago. After getting the NK clip into the pots and Flockclip past the keyblock (and get the small key afterwards). Might even be faster than the SJ (also saves a menu). VoD:

I really don't know how I should decide this. On the one hand I think: Woohoo! No more Rooster skip! But on the other hand I think I would miss these tension-filled moments when RS is coming up.

For now I'll say, let's just stick to the old ruleset, but define it better. (I also wouldn't mind yet another category which allows some of the more "crazy" SJs + superswimming)

Well, we already have Legacy%, which is basically No Major Glitches. I dont think there's the need for another category.

Edit: btw, would the Flock clip (enter D2 faster/skip a key in D3) be allowed in Legacy%?

GermanySurrealGuy8 years ago

I agree, allow it. Walrus skip is technically also allowed in the main category, why should this not be? Sorry Zorlax <3 Btw who runs S&Q seriously?
