@refan2236 i made Squirrelies aware of his SRT not working and he said he will work on a fix for it this weekend.

if you get it from here https://www.speedrun.com/re2/resources and make sure mod_crypto is in the folder with the rest of the game files, you'll get the second window pop up. mod_crypto doesn't need to be extracted

EnglandStevenMayte3 years ago

yup quickturn and tactical reload are banned but even if you were to enable them, after you press ok on the config the next window where you select BIOHAZARD 2: SPEEDRUN EDITION will disable everything that isn't allowed.

Hi everyone, i’m happy to announce that Classic Rebirth is now allowed for run submissions but it does have some restrictions so don’t rush to download it just yet! We’ve worked with Gemini this past month to create the Rebirth “Speedrun” edition, this version of Rebirth is very different to the standard Rebirth patch and therefore the standard Rebirth patch is still banned for runs.

The Speedrun edition mimics the FPS of the vanilla game so vanilla and Rebirth will coexist on the same leaderboard as neither vanilla or Rebirth offer any advantages outside of compatibility fixes and some nice add-ons to the game itself like a built in room jump tool, inventory modifier and the ability to save anywhere in the game! Room jumper and inventory modifier(BIO2GPS) are available to non Rebirth runners via external programs.

Adding Rebirth to your game is very simple, just download Classic Rebirth Speedrun Edition from here https://www.speedrun.com/re2/resources (it’s at the bottom) extract it and place those files into the game directory (wherever you installed the game) by default it’s C:\Program Files (x86)\CAPCOM\BIOHAZARD 2 PC.

IMPORTANT NOTE “mod_sr_crypto “ CANNOT BE EXTRACTED! It changes the copyright text on the main menu as seen here https://gyazo.com/793d302d03814b9a84a0c2a295c11215?token=5d5e1e2f7f143c749b61b6df264ef03b this is to verify that you’re using the correct version of Rebirth.

You can also play Classic Rebirth without ever installing the game if you don’t currently have the game installed, check this guide by Gemini to see how http://appleofeden.de-doc.com/index.php/re2cr-troubleshooting/

The first thing you will see when launching bio2 v1.1 exe is a screen with a bunch of different options, while a lot of these are disabled for the Speedrun edition there is a lot useful things here such as window resolution, audio and texture options and “ignore focus” which allows you to tab out of the game and have the game run flawlessly in the background without forcing a pause! When you’re done choosing options on this screen press OK and you’ll then be taken to the next screen and from the drop down menu choose “BIOHAZARD 2: Speedrun Edition” and you’re set!

How to use the built in game features;

Pressing F5 will bring up this menu (If you don't see this window when pressing F5, press F1 on the first config window when launching the game and this will active it) https://gyazo.com/3f0e2c2e721fcca23f9e8e7dc6ac8469?token=d550f07e58cd127960d6ee16221fbc3b

The first feature is Room jump, use your bound directional buttons to find the room and press enter to confirm the room you want to teleport to, the game is split into sections, pressing the map button (by default the A button on keyboard) will swap between different sections of the game, when you find the room you want just press enter!

The Utility menu has an invincibility option which is useful for practicing, just don’t forget to turn it off for runs!

Inventory Editor works similarly to the room jump in that you use the directional buttons you have bound to cycle through items, pressing your map button will decrease the amount of an item you have and enter will increase it, having 255 of an item means it is set to infinite.

The Quick access menu allows you to save ANYWHERE! combined with room jump and inventory editor this tool is god tier for practice.

Huge thanks to Gemini for putting the time into this and accepting our feedback and change requests, we’ve been going back and forth on this for a month and also thanks to everyone who helped to test the patch with us!

Any problems just reply to this thread :)

things do not change even if several people want it to change and the consoles separate.

literally 2 people asking for change that haven't even submitted a run, the last PSN/PS3 run submitted to the leaderboard was over a year ago and 6 runs total in the 5-6 years we've had a leaderboard on this site, i think that speaks volumes of how popular it is and speaks for itself that it has no need to be separated.

So nah we're not separating anything, are we done here ?

EnglandStevenMayte3 years ago

play what you want to play, why are you letting a default position on a leaderboard stop you from running it?

To me that says you just want a quick easy WR for your profile lol

EnglandStevenMayte3 years ago

Well playstation speedrunning is a mess, You could have a Japanese PS2 and still be at a disadvantage because someone has a more optimal PS2 SCPH model. Also again, filters exist. If you Wana see certain PS console runs use the filter. Japanese version being the fastest isn't anything new

You need a Japanese PSN account to get the Japanese version

EnglandStevenMayte3 years ago

PAL runs aren't tracked here but even if they were it wouldn't be separate because filters exist. The platforms you mention get VERY little runs submitted to them since the PC version is so accessable now thanks to the Rebirth patch, no need for further separation at this time.

Hopefully by the end of the week, testing has been going well after multiple revisions of the patch, we'll make a follow up thread soon with all the details.

we have a separate game series here on speedrun.com for fan mods so it could be added there https://www.speedrun.com/refangames

If you're using the Rebirth patch then resolution doesn't affect the IGT so it just comes down to personal preference what you use

Try what i said and get back to me with proof :) make sure to display the IGT on screen so we can see it get impacted, i'll wait.

Until then i'm done replying here.

EnglandStevenMayte3 years ago

Why is it whenever there's discussion happening in RE forums you get a fresh account with zero knowledge pop up sigh everything you said about the IGT is false if the game slows down, so does the IGT therefore no time is lost, don't believe me? set the game to 10 FPS and monitor the IGT yourself or go even further and keep locking the FPS at random numbers, the IGT will not be affected by lag and the scenario you described with the status screen is probably one of the most uncommon problems and can usually be fixed with the official 1.11 patch.

Having patched and unpatched together makes no different if both are running the same, that's kinda the point of this like....whole discussion.

@Gemini i'll dm you on discord if you don't mind

i don't doubt they work that way in other versions, infact i know they do from running them but fact is that's not how they work in the PC version until the rebirth patch is used it's also seemingly random where these faster zombies occur in Rebirth.

This also happened to me at the basketball court, the first guy was way out of position down the alley making it impossible to even try to set up for a no damage gate whereas in any other circumstance unpatched you can atleast try for no damage gate due to the zombies walking animation speed even if the second zombie is blocking the gate.

edit: saving/losing time over unpatched aren't arbitrary reasons, i requested a patch with completely unaltered frame rate with just the quality of life and compatibility fixes and you refused. Even putting zombie animations to the side for a sec, the patch is still unusable to a current speedrunner.

even with lag or lower FPS no time is lost and IGT remains consistent for everybody on an unpatched unaltered game. it's just not feasible to allow such a patch onto the leaderboards unless it's altered in a way it matches unpatched 1:1.

and about the zombies, my point still stands however it's explained, faster, several animations, doesn't matter that specific animation where he's moving faster than the others shouldn't be happening in Normal mode and doesn't happen unpatched.

losing time on cutscenes and doors is not normal as this doesn't happen on an unpatched game even with the fps fluctuating

Regarding some zombies moving faster like hard mode, in all the years of running i'll bet my life that nobody has seen this until using the rebirth patch

Viixie_ likes this
EnglandStevenMayte3 years ago

Yep it's true multiple runners have tested rebirth now including myself and time is lost on every door and every cutscene,

Cutscene time loss;

Hard mode zombie speed in normal mode;

Now do you believe what I've been saying for 2 years or so that changes have to be made? There won't be a separate category for this, if rebirth is allowed it must be to a standard where it's the same IGT as unpatched and without zombies acting this way, that way unpatched and rebirth can co-exist on the same board.

And we've literally just scratched the surface of testing so more problems may be found soon.

FYI these time losses on cutscenes are the same amount of time lost when using the "cutscene speed up" exe.

All we asked for is a patch with a completely un-altered frame rate and once tested extensively the patch would be allowed, this has been requested multiple times. It's not that anyone is "scared" to relearn anything, we care about board integrity and keeping everyone on the same playing field.

We want this patch to be used as it has great QOL features that nobody would turn down but in it's current state that's not possible.

It's also unfair to compare RE1 with RE2 because you literally can't run RE1 without a patch unless you want the game to crash and in general have a terrible gameplay experience, that's the reason RE1 PC never had a leaderboard until it had a patch available and your patch didn't alter the frame rate for that game as the previous patch was also a stable 30FPS so it posed no problem for that leaderboard.

The patch also won't be a separate category, sorry.
