Hey every. I was working on the IL boards and accidentally messed up the Root Pack ILs. If you have a Root Pack run on the boards, please check that it is still there and under the correct version. If not, please DM me either on Discord or here on SRC with the relevant information so I can fix it!

Hey everyone. We're in the middle of planning our first big competitive event and would like some feedback from potential participants. If you are interested in taking part in such an event, please take the following poll to help us decide the format! As always, if you do not wish to participate, please disregard this poll. Thanks!

Feel free to use this thread to discuss ideas as well!

For those who are unaware, as of today (December 1, 2017) a patch has been released for Cuphead, updating it to version 1.1.3. Full patch notes can be found here: http://studiomdhr.com/cupdate-patch-notes-v1-1-3/

I'm not going to go into detail as to how this patch affects Cuphead itself. That's what those notes are for. There are also many members of the community who are working to figure specific things out, so you can always ask in the Discord. Hopefully, we'll have a document or something set up soon with a list of specific changes.

However, with this patch, a major change is coming to a few of the categories, which is why I'm writing this post in the first place. The major change is regarding what patch you play on. We feel that it is in the best interest of the community to require any and all Glitchless runs to be performed on the current patch. This has been updated in the rules for those categories.

While this patch prevents some of the major glitches from happening, we are aware that there are minor ones that can still be done on this patch. As the name suggests, these are still banned.

As for any non-Glitchless category, we are not restricting you to use a certain version. If you want to run it on the new patch, that's fine. If you want to run it on the old, that's fine too. There are certainly going to be differences in times due to things that were fixed within the patch, but that is something you'll have to accept should you choose to run on the newer patch.

In accordance with these new rules, the boards for the Glitchless categories have been wiped. I understand that this may be frustrating to those of you who had runs. Trust me, I get it. However, it is something we had to do to uphold the integrity of the boards.

If you have any questions about the new rule set or about how this affects the boards, please ask me or one of the other mods and we'll be happy to try to answer your question to the best of our ability. Thanks!

If you didn't see it in the Discord server, SpeedGaming is looking to showcase a little bit of everything going on in the speedrunning world. Here is the full post:

"Hi! I'm part of SpeedGaming, a speedrunning organization that features community events and tournaments on our Twitch channels (twitch.tv/SpeedGaming, SpeedGaming2, SpeedGaming3, SpeedGaming4). During the month of December SpeedGaming is going to be showcasing a little bit of EVERYTHING that is happening in the speedrun world. We want to get a sampling of all the active communities out there (any game, any era). It can be just about anything! Weekly races, showcases, relays, mini-tournaments -- we are open to all ideas." - jaysee87

I'd personally like to work with them to come up with something to showcase from the Cuphead community. If anyone is interested in participating, please use this forum to discuss ideas.

Things I think would work well:

  • Tournament
  • Weekly Race
  • A Cuphead Mini-League -- a series of races with a different category per stage; would include an overall leaderboard for the "season"
  • Relay -- Somebody take World 1, World 2, and World 3. We could either lump in Hell with World 3 or make it a separate thing if there's enough interest

Again, if you have any other ideas, feel free to discuss them here. Also, if you are interested in participating, we can start planning something as well. Thanks!

Alright, so this is probably long overdue, but we as mods have decided that bringing on a few verifiers to help out with our ever-constant backlog would be a good idea. So, we're opening up applications for this position.

If you want to be considered for this position, please reply to this post with the following information:

  1. Discord name (so we can communicate with you)
  2. General availability
  3. How much time you think you can commit to the boards per week
  4. Why you want to be a verifier in the first place

Please submit your application by 11:59 PM EST on Sunday, November 26th. We will be reviewing the applications afterwards and should have an answer by the end of next week. If you have any questions, feel free to let me or any of the other mods know!

Thanks for your interest!

There has been some discussion about co-op rules in light of recent findings, so we wanted to take a moment to clarify some things about the co-op categories.

  1. You must be playing with two players. This seems like a stupid rule, but what this really means is that a single person can't be playing in place of two. This rule is important for understanding the following two rules.

  2. There must be two, and only two, characters on screen at any given time. Any duplication of characters is strictly prohibited.

  3. If a player dies, they must be revived. If the ghost goes offscreen before the fight is over, they may steal a life from the alive player, assuming they do so within a second of leaving the screen. If this window is missed, the fight must be restarted. Failure to do so will result in the run being rejected. This rule only applies to boss fights.

  4. We are allowing online co-op through alternate means (such as Nvidia)

Hey, everyone!

The Category "Mega-Poll" is officially online. Please go to https://goo.gl/forms/aEEFx6C8R90VGlpo2 and fill it out. As of this message, there are 359 people in the Discord server alone, so this is the easiest and most efficient way for us to reach out to everyone. This poll is going to be absolutely essential for figuring out where to take the leaderboards in the near future, so please take it seriously.

The poll will be open for 1.5 weeks (until 11:59pm EST on October 14th), so you have plenty of time to think about your responses and get them in!

Feel free to ask me any questions either here on on Discord and I'll get back to you as soon as I can!

Just for reference, is there a benchmark for what constitutes a "substantial portion" of a game when requesting a new game leaderboard? For instance, a single level wouldn't inherently be enough, but what about the entire first world of a game?
