I've been on this website for 6 years, and the WR history graph has been ASS for at least as long. I would not hold my breath.

Submit it as a new run, that way the old one is still viewable as "obsolete" and there remains record of it. The edit feature should only be used for retro-active corrections.

No, there are hacks. I've actually successfully put more ROMs on it.

But, of course, if it is slower, and a hack isn't aloud, I probably won't bother using it for speedruns.

I've heard that the NES Classic Mini's official emulator is a little slower, and less accurate, than some 3rd party emulators.

I just wanted to ask if that's true?

And if so, I know that the NES Classic Mini can be hacked so you can put a different emulator on it. I wanted to know how that would affect the legitimacy of a speedrun.

Actually, correction on my part.

1.7 added 5 new achievements (yes, Adventuring Time was unobtainable). It was 1.8 that only added one more: Overpowered.

Honestly, they work pretty much the same. The only reason a new category is needed is because there's many, MANY more of them added in 1.12.

So, we need a whole new category called "All Advancements Set Seed (1.12+)." Personally, I also think we need "All Achievements Set Seed (1.7)" since it actually had one more achievement than 1.6 did.

What I REALLY wish, though, is that the categories had been setup like this:

  • Any%
  • Any% Glitchless
  • All Achievements (1.0-1.6)
  • All Achievements (1.8-1.11) And then had "Set Seed" and "Random Seed" setup as subcategories. (Similar to how Super Mario 64 has N64, VC, and EMU setup as subcategories of each instead of 3x as many categories.)

EDIT: "Advancements" actually do work a little different. A map maker can add more to a custom map.

But, to clear up that question for future users with a similar situation:

There are 2 things you can do if you beat your time while it's still awaiting verification:

  1. Go ahead and submit the second one while still waiting for the first. The mods will likely accept both. This way, your original run is still on record for the "Statistics" page of the game, and can still be viewed under "Obsolete Runs" on your profile.
  2. If you don't care about the above reasons, then you can simply EDIT your original submission so that it's up to date. (This is not recommended since it means that the submission date would be BEFORE you actually set the record.)

If you decide on number 2, just make sure that, in the future, you don't "edit" your submission every single time you set a new record. Doing this will, again, cause the submission date to show that you submitted it BEFORE you set the record, and the Statistics page would not show your past records as having even ever happened.

I prefer not to use emulators when speedrunning.

I own an SNES, and I used to have a couple hundred dollars worth of games for it, however I lost most of them a few years ago in some unfortunate circumstances involving my mother and a spring cleaning...

I now only have Super Mario World, and I really want to speedrun other games for the SNES, but my only option would be to buy a bunch of games AGAIN (very expensive, least desirable option).

However, I found some cartridges online that can simply have an SD-card with a bunch of ROMs loaded on it plugged into it.

Before I use this for speedrunning, however, I want to confirm a couple things:

  1. That the run would not be considered invalid because "the ROM is technically hacked."
  2. That the run would not be considered invalid because "the device is modified."
  3. That the device would not qualify as an emulator (I'm pretty sure it wouldn't, but it's always good to confirm).

EDIT: Some examples of what I'm talking about can be found here: http://www.stoneagegamer.com/super-everdrive-basic.html (Super EverDrive) https://shop.retrogate.com/everdrive/super-everdrive-buy (Super EverDrive v2) http://www.stoneagegamer.com/sd2snes-basic.html (SD2SNES)

Also, if an SD-card cartridge IS aloud, but there's only certain ones that are, it'd be nice to know which ones. Or, if any of you have any recommendations on which one to buy, I'll consider your opinions.

That would count as a set seed.

I see some speedruns have a different submitted time than what the video shows, but this is obviously because they were hand timing it and they went back through and timed it again.

I was simply wondering what the most accurate way to retime a recorded run would be.
