I've never tried the Gary glitch in Vault 112, which is how you obtain Anchorage simulation items in normal gameplay by putting Gary in the pod and using his body as a container. Not sure if you could do that in 112. I can't think of a way other than killing the greeting robot and using it as a container. Not sure if it's even possible though. If it is technically obtainable though, it would probably need to be included.

All that matters is that you fulfill the requirements of the category. If the run doesn't involve completing all quests in the DLC, than you can do whatever is fastest.

If you look at all bobbleheads, the run actually doesn't require beating the game at all, just placing the last bobbleheads on the stand. So, imo, if the category is "All weapons and bobbleheads" than collecting the last weapon or placing the last bobblehead is all you would need to worry about. Starting this quest at all would be irrelevant IF you're not including DLC weapons. I know you said it was "all quests, bobbleheads, and weapons" , but I was just giving an example of how you can structure a run to fit a specific category.

If you're including DLC weapons, than the last quest must count as completed in the right state in order to obtain the Broken Steel quests, because you'll need those quests in order get some unique that are towards the end of that DLC.

Ultimately, Take it Back! Is technically completed in any% even with Sarah in the wrong dialog state. So, no, you don't need to properly complete Take it Back! For it to count as completed (imo). Whether or not you do the escort mission skip, take it back is considered complete when you enter the code on the console and hit enter. If you look at the normal any% run, you receive the quest by talking to autumn, so all that matters is that at least that happens.

As a side note, I'm curious about if your run includes both of Autumn's unique weapons (the 10mm in addition to the Laser pistol) and Dad's 10mm, or just weapons you have access to in normal gameplay.

It was recently discovered that there is a way to skip the Liberty Prime Escort mission by doing a certain sequence break involving Sarah Lyons. It's her dialog that let's you complete the necessary quest stage that let's you properly complete the game.

If you improperly completed the last two quests in the game, you were stuck in an infinite loop of dialog once you wake up for the new Broken Steel content. You wouldn't be able to start any if the broken steel quests.

I made a video proving the concept of skipping liberty prime escort here:

.

You can skip Liberty Prime in any run involving Broken Steel content with no adverse effects. Any runs where it is not skipped is probably just a result of the skip not being discovered when the run was done as I beleive the only run it was implemented on after I discovered it was all quests.

I hope I answered your question.

I know there are a few video tutorials and some help on various forums, but I thought it would be a good idea to make a sort of database of Fallout 3 speedrunning featuring all known glitches and bugs in each category and some additional things that aren't currently useful. Basically anything that is broken in the game. I'd also include a glossary of terms at the beginning for help understanding terms and abbreviations.

I started it some time ago and have been slowly working on it. It's pretty incoherent right now, but here's an idea of what I have done so far that's not a disorganized mess. It's an overview of the glitches needed for any% in rough order of appearance.

https://pastebin.com/emVXmNqy

The full version will be made available when done, potentially on its own wiki. When will it be done? I don't know. The scope of this thing is pretty big and I only have so much time to work on it. I want to try and ensure that the final version is community driven so anyone can edit it. For now, I'll update the pastebin as I organize more information.

The first level of the game. I cleared it of enemies up to the boat and did several timed runs. The strafing was universally about 10-15% faster.

United StatesRanarith7 years ago

With any character, strafing while walking forward has a higher top speed than walking or strafing by itself. The green character (I have no idea what their names are) has the fastest walking speed, at least early on.

Using his faster movement speed, in combination with the increase from strafe walking, it is possible to walk up rocks and slopes that you normally are not able to. This could lead to skips and sequence breaks if used properly. One thing that comes to mind is skipping needing to collect enough legos for a required hero mode build, especially early on.

I'm sure everyone can guess where I stand. But, it's not up to me. If the community decides to include it, it's in.

Miku_, keep in mind that these things are based on my experience. I've had people say it worked, and people that say it hasn't worked. Maybe you'll have more luck than some.

Miku is correct. Early on in planning the 2014 reroute, I experimented with escaping the vault as a ten year old. I quickly ruled it out because of the restrictions built into the character.

It's a fun playthrough though! I had a file I used to stream casually where the Player Character was 10. Much increased difficulty and fun for the FO3 veterans.

Good luck!

Good job.

If you can get on top of the corridor you clip into, instead of clipping into it, you can jump directly onto the 2nd level of the stairs and save a few seconds. You jump off the top of a sign after clipping back in bounds.

When I can get through and onto the ceiling, I've gotten pretty good at it, but it's a fairly difficult jump. Worth practicing though because it saves a few seconds that could save a close run.

Good luck!

Hey there. What Miku says is good stuff, but I thought I'd give my perspective on it.

There's a grocery store at the top of the hill near the parking lot and Metro station after you exit the vault, on the way to LL. Inside it is a grenade trap. For some people, grenades are fairly consistent for getting the glitch. And, since it's on the way, it's faster than the missile launcher. I've used it in practice runs and it's quite fast. and you could easily compete for top 7 with this strat.

Other than that, it seems I get the falling glitch the most consistently out of basically anyone. My strat is to standardize my movements out of the vault as much as possible. What makes me get the glitch more often is consistency in movement. I make similar movements each run before the glitch, specifically looking the same way, being sure to load the same things each time. Thus, the timing I've practiced matches up with the correct frames to get the glitch.

This works because the game's engine can only render a certain amount of physics actions at one time. Calculating your falling velocity upon landing to determine whether or not you break a leg/die is a physics based calculation. The amount of things going on/loaded in can affect when/where/how long/ how many frames the glitch can be achieved.

Basically, it took a lot of practice for me to get it so I can get it on average in five tries or fewer (in my current PB, I get in on try # 2). Understanding WHY and HOW it happens was important to figuring out how to get it consistently.

Good luck!

Been doing the ball push in my runs since I routed stimpack-less. It's sometimes faster. It depends on the angle Dad gets pushed. It's somewhat random, but I've gotten it fairly consistent. There a few other cool tricks you can do with that ball that range from fairly useless to potentially useful, but insanely hard to execute.

Your game may be incorrectly calculating walking speed (and general game time). This is an issue because it is caused by a means external to the game such as GPU drivers, hardware, and other applications adding to your CPU usage. Runs demonstrating this WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. If you are experiencing this, you should watch this video for help fixing it: http://bombch.us/BCrC

You can also check out the google docs boards here for more help - check the resources tab. http://bombch.us/uFc

In most cases, this is unintended and no fault of the runner. If any of your runs have been effected by this glitch and wish to remain on the boards or be competitive, you must submit the speed test demonstrated above to the google docs leaderboards.

The original mods for this game are over at the google docs boards. These rules were implemented and agreed upon by the mods and community before the speedrun.com page was created. When this glitch was discovered, it was immediately ruled a means of external manipulation - intended or otherwise. If you have any questions, please post in the forum and we will be happy to answer questions you have or help you out to fix it!
