As I have already posted in the other thread made by Babyhuehnchen the old Discord server seems to be deleted. Therefore, I took it on myself to create a new combined Discord server for all games within the series (that are currently on Speedrun.com).

The new Discord server created for the series is a place for all Looney Tunes speedrunners to meet up and discuss whichever game you run. The server has a specific room for all games listed on Speedrun.com and therefore you can find the community you want to be a part of and get more people involved in your speedgame. The following link is permanent and can be used to invite more people into the server.

I am currently a series moderator for Looney Tunes. Funny enough, I don't know why, since this all started with me only being a moderator of Taz Express. Although, I took it on myself to steer this up. Being a series moderator means I have the power to add new games to the series on Speedrun.com. I am also a moderator of most games in the series, and therefore I am capable of handing out moderator statuses to those games. I am personally not interested in moderating the games within the series (except for Taz Express) and therefore I would be glad to hand the games over to other, more capable people. If you want to discuss this with me, feel free to message me on Discord.

I would like to open up a discussion for this game. Any% from a new game file seems, for me, like the most interesting category at the moment (and honestly I don't know if there are any others), but as I am very new to the game and haven't even completed the entire game so far, I am far from sure how to handle this game when it comes to speedruns. I would therefore prefer an open discussion about it. Brainstorm, write down what you know and let us make this game the best bad speedrun there is!

• Hello fellow speedrunners - Ignore this section if it is TL/DR

My name is Pottoww, and people who watch different Star Fox games has probably seen me before. The Star Fox community is a growing community in the matter of speedrunning and has grown far bigger today than it was back in 2012 when I pushed the community together. Today we have competitors in every Star Fox game, from the NES Star Fox 1 and unreleased Star Fox 2 to the latest entry i the series Star Fox Zero. People are regularly improving world records and personal bests and the viewer base has grown a bit stronger the past couple of years.

But, we want more. One of the major obstacles in the Star Fox speedrunning community and an often recurring "criticism" for our runs even to these days is that Star Fox is, in many cases, not a speedrun-friendly gaming series. It is "casual", "only based on RNG" and "too autoscroller" to be taken seriously. Even though events like AGDQ and ESA has helped out proving the worthy of the runs, many are still not convinced. And even these major marathons have their doubts about the interest value between the games.

• We are planning to showcase our community and the games within with the use of a relay race - Important section At the moment, the planning for this event is at a very early state. But, we hereby seek out to you for the interest in a relay race to show the series full potential. This means, the interest to participate.

We know that there are a lot of people in the speedrunning community who is not very familiar with our community. And we know that there are a lot of people who wants to, or already are, speedrunning games in the series but is not involved in the community so far. That is one reason why we put this thread in the main forums.

You do not have to be a speedrunner of any game in the series right now. You only need to show us interest in participating in a relay race. This race is going to happen at earliest during the fall 2016.

"But, Star Fox is 90% autoscroller!"

  • No it isn't. It is on rails. It is far from autoscrolling.

If you have any interest in this event, please submit your interest to this form. This is not binding by any means, it is just helpful to create a first look at what we can create. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Tnn8dL6l8GE1n8KiLMB58dHIcKE_j5CLh9qUjDKFNks/viewform?c=0&w=1

So I am currently the only one in the world who have done a speedrun of the PAL only Nintendo 64 game Taz Express. Sometimes there has been people in my chat claiming they want to learn it, but I have never heard anything afterwords.

Leaderboards with recorded runs at the moment is: http://www.speedrun.com/tazexpress

My question is if anyone else knows about the game and would enjoy looking into it. The game at the moment has a few tricks found by me, both for New Game and NG+. I believe it can get more broken in the future, but researching a game for yourself only is not that much fun. Seeing the Any% category drop to under 10 minutes would be amazing.

Also the game sucks.

First:

Apparently you can start boosting during the cut scene. This seems to happen if you mash boosts in the beginning of entering the level.

Secondly I have managed to start boosting when supposed to hit the mother ship before ROB has finished his dialogue. His textboxes are still visible but for some reason I have managed to interrupt the cut scene without knowing how. This has happened to me twice in Asteroid Field.

Anyone know anything about this or feel like helping me look into it?

Alright, so a lot of different games has individual levels that are being ran by different runners. These runs normally have their own in game timer as well.

IL leaderboards as they are right now doesn't really work out completely throughout the site. There are complications with times, structure and positioning. You guys has done a great job with this site, maybe the IL part should get some more focus?

First example I have is something that happened in Punch-Out!! for Wii. Basically I posted all my IL WRs in the IL board created by me. After a while Zallard1 posted his Von Kaiser time as well - which is just as fast (and btw also frame perfect, unimprovable) - to the IL board. What happened was that my time remained the best time, while his didn't even show up on the board. http://www.speedrun.com/powii/Von_Kaiser#Contender

Instead, his IL time showed up on his "Runs" page on his profile just named "Contender" with the time. So apparently, if someone submits an IL time that is just as fast as one already submitted, it translates into a "normal" speedrun on that persons personal page and disappears from everywhere else. IL's are something that will always have a lot of tied times, so this should be considered a bug and therefore fixed.

This puts another question on the table though, if multiple runners have the same time, will all their names be listed on the IL overview? One solution I can think of is to have it say "XX.XX by Pottoww" if there is only one person having the best time, and "XX.XX by Y runners" if more than one person share the same time. This would take away the uglyness of 10 people being listed.

Next up is the time. IL leaderboards and full game leaderboards should be separated when it comes to administrating them in the settings. One reason is the timer. In Super Mario Galaxy 2 IL times comes down to hundreds, but no one would ever time a full game run in hundreds. This is just a question about looks, but there might be more reasons to split them in the settings that I can not think of right now.

Although, another thing conected with this is that having "full seconds" and "milliseconds" as the only two options also makes it look kind of ugly sometimes. The best solution might be to add the options to time a game in everything between a full second and milliseconds, so games like Punch-Out!! and others can get rid of that final 0 after each time.

Next up is the structure of the IL boards. This is a tricky one though, but I will explain my issue to get it up for discussion at least. Once again I direct you to Punch-Out!!, there are 13 fighters in total in the career mode and you fight each one twice, once in Contender mode and once in Title Defense mode. This makes the "Individual level categories" very useful. One issue though is that you can also fight Donkey Kong, which you can only fight in one mode (basically "extras"). With the IL categories used, DK still gets two different LBs although he only requires 1, and having all 27 fights listed seems very "ugly". Might there be a way to fix this?

There might be an issue to compete with Cyberscore in ILs, but I feel like there are games where different IL categories and such is useful (Star Fox: Assault for example) so having them on this site is in many cases more useful for speedrunners.

Thank you for reading, feel free to share thoughts and ideas of anything IL-related here to make this an IL discussion thread.
