Thought I'd keep track of these somewhere for when I want to put a run together. I haven't been following new skips as closely as a lot of you, so I'll need some help keeping the list up to date.

If you know of any confirmed skips with videos then give me a link with the chapter, link and approximate time saved, and I'll add it.

Chapter 8: Shale Skip -- by TheThrillness (30s)

Chapter 12: Boat Clip -- by TheThrillness and OvenDonkey (4m)

Chapter 16: Bookcase Skip -- by PotatoHandle (30s)

Just gunna post some blobs about what I notice as I run through the game with speedrunning in mind.

Currently up to C6.

Being able to skip combat (As in, just running through it) is rare so far. Hitting a cutscene trigger while in combat seems to get your partner killed instantly. Which seems to suggest that there is a level of 'skip protection' in this game. Not sure if anything exists out of combat though.

You can move around freely after your partner dies for a good 5-7 seconds, may be enough time to prevent the fadeout and reload in some way. I've tried pausing; still need to try stuff like pulling out the camera.

'Very easy' in this game isn't quite as trivial as UC2 and UC3, it's quite lenient though.

The C6 OOB doesn't appear to have any use, and it seems that going OOB is very unstable in this game. I waited on the roof near the C7 load point and the game crashed, and this isn't even 'very far' out of bounds.

I've tried most known methods of clipping without any luck, however, you can half-clip through walls by climbing up ledges next to walls. I'm sure this will work in some places, just need to find them, hehe.

I'll check out more on the weekend. \o/

EDIT: This is probably as good a time as any to say that this weird teleport glitch happened: I fired my last shotgun shell, at the same time that the grenade exploded. Not sure if both are relevant, but it caused me to teleport and automatically loot a guy who was through a chest-high wall quite a ways in front of me.

Apparently this isn't common knowledge; Marc mentioned that he didn't know it last night and that it should save a fair bit of time in his run, so I figured I'd post it to make sure everyone knows.

Firing a gun (Even an empty one) while running up stairs lets you run at full speed. With combat speed it saves lots of time over rolling or normal running. Rolling is also a pain in the arse because Nate loves taking cover on random shit that you happen to roll next to, so you can avoid that too. \o/

Here's a snippet from my PB in C16 where it saves the most time.

Enjoy your ez pbs. Kappa b

Oh wow, that's really clever. Not sure how much time it would save. I pretty much tune out during C9, haha, but you'd at very least not have to wait for Chloe any more and prevent the rare softlock with the second mirror. I'll definitely try it out next run, thanks Covert! \o/

For the record, I have a 2nd gen ps3 as in, one of these.

I'd be interested to compare load times as well; not sure if there will be a difference or not, but it'd be interesting.

I still have this feeling that the 9 minutes that I am behind WR is not ¤all¤ my fault. But maybe that's just wishful thinking and I'm bad, haha.

Victoria, AustraliaPotatoHandle9 years ago

Thanks Covert; I'll try it out soon. \o/

I'd be interested as long as they're pretty short (<20 minutes) I'd also like to play them normally at least once too, haha. People with me would have to understand that I'll be dealing with Australian latency though and I also wouldn't be able to stream it.

I'd especially be interested in UC2 co-op, because it'd be fun to try and push the patched game to the limits, and I already have the PSN and disc versions of the game. \o/

EDIT: Should be noted I haven't watched the videos yet, I'll check them out when I get home, hehe. EDIT2: As for proof required, surely one video should be plenty; there's co-op functionality on speedrun.com, so we should be able to submit as teams with a single video.

Victoria, AustraliaPotatoHandle9 years ago

Here's mine. I stream casual stuff from the couch using the TV, and speedruns from the desk on the monitor for the slightly lower latency. Lots of splitters and cable hell hidden behind the TV, haha. Setup to stream PS3, 360, WiiU, and PC very easily, wanna get something worked out for older consoles next. \o/

Currently watching some META on the laptop. ᕦ(° Д°)ᕤ

The smallest card that I can buy is 25 pounds. Which I think works out to be three and a half trillion Australian dollars. I might have to try the steam version first. Does the climbing glitch still work? >>

I couldn't get the PS3 version downloaded; what payment method did you guys use? Paypal keeps failing on me, grrr. ._.

Just posting a link to the SDA threads with most of the information I've found, for convenience:

Hydrophobia: XBLA Hydrophobia: Prophecy XBLA record in 4:57. Prophecy Record (I think. >_>)

For the record, if anyone more serious about running this series wants to 'take over' the running this board, then I'm happy to pass the torch. If I'm slow updating times (More than a couple of days), poke me on Twitter, and I'll fix it up. \o/

Enjoy! \o/

We've been cutting a few seconds off the Tomb Raider run for ages now by loading it up first; it's legit for NG as long as you don't need pre-existing save data for it; otherwise, anything you do before starting your run is up to you. \o/

EDIT: I guess this is a good time to 'officially' mention about skin changes, which I've done in a few of my runs, which very much ¤are¤ a NG+ feature. But since they provide no advantage and indeed cost a few seconds to switch to, those I've asked have said it's cool. If anyone objects to changing skins mid-run though, I'm happy to stop.

Are you talking about all treasures? I'm pretty interested, but have only learned the first 4 chapters so far; kinda on the backburner for the moment. Tutotrials may help motivate me a bit, hehe.

That said, it's mainly about treasure locations so watching a run is as good a tutorial as any, really.

I'm sorta with Marc that it seems a bit unnecessary to have the individual game threads in the UC1 forum, when the forums themselves already exist for each game; unless that's harder to moderate or somesuch. If we're gunna move stuff, earlier would be easier. \o/

And hey some cool bling for each forum wouldn't be too bad either. Not as fussed about that though, hehe. That said the current background looks really nice. \o/

Oh man, I love the very similar C4 skip, I'm glad to see that tech used again. Excellent work theasylum. \o/

First person to route a skylaunch back into the game will be personally stripped, clubbed, battered, clubbed again, killed and then eaten by me. Kappa b

Awesome work Oven; can't hear the sound at work, but I'll check them out when I get home. \o/

Oh, also, there's an online playstation speedrun marathon happening in February. Signups close on Jan 20th. Doesn't look like it's gunna be huge, but I've submitted UC2; if nothing else I could use the commentary practice for AVcon later this year, hehe.

If anyone wants to submit one of the other games that would be cool; the submission form is on the marathon's SDA Thread. \o/

Just dropping by to say ahoy there everyone. \o/

In particular hello to Warren, it'll be really interesting to have some background information on UC3's design. Thanks for stopping by and offering your knowledge! \o/

It's still early-days at the moment, but it does seem that it was designed more linearly than UC1 or UC2; checkpoints only seem to load 1-2 at a time, so it may be difficult to find stuff, especially with the 2-way collision UC3 has. It'd be cool to have a couple of skips; even small ones to show off in the run though.

Even UC2 showed a little restraint with it's pre-loading of checkpoints, otherwise, Chapter 22-23 would be 2 minutes long, haha. But then again, the train glitch sure is a thing. >_>

Oh another thing, it seems to can cover clip to the right, if you aim in between shuffles. Might have been known already. It seems to be slightly faster to clip this way too, although it seems to make it easier to detach from the cover and lose the glitch.

thread: Uncharted
Victoria, AustraliaPotatoHandle9 years ago

If my orientation is right, I'm pretty sure you can use the cover in the tunnel with the trap to clip straight into the C9 tunnel, I just had some trouble getting through the wall, but I haven't tried much, so that'd be the next thing to try.

You can also go into chapter 9 and clip through a wall to the left at the top of the stairs; which is faster, and then air-walk your way to the area, but you have to land totally blind. I did learn however, that you can start an airwalk after de-covering, which may be useful here or elsewhere.

I've had attempts where I've gotten close, I've sometimes ledge-grabbed the big stones near the turning point of the tunnel, but on the OOB side, and at that point the only thing you can do is press B to fall and die; but it does kinda prove that the tunnel is loaded correctly I guess?

Dunno. I think someone smarter than me needs to look at it. :P
