Hey runners,

So, board has been sloppy for uh... some years now. Got some recent runs to verify including ties on the board. Reviewing, the timing hasn't been very consistent.

Will begin the process of reviewing timing methods, defining rules, out and doing retimings accordingly to bring some consistency to the game.

I work taxes, and uh yeah, bad week for me coming up here. But about to be past that and entering the summer, and cleaning up this board and getting some recent runs accepted and such looking like my first quick project.

Feel free with ideas/suggestions, etc. Hoping to get things definite and settled here in 2-3 weeks.

Good deal. 3 frames is wicked tight! But at least we know what we aiming for for now exactly. I'll slowly update past runs in accordance with the rules!

Went ahead and updated the rules, retimed the 4 fastest runs according, and posted the above video for comparison and analysis. I'll slowly retimed the others as I get a chance.

Hope he is good, he is always a real one.

But yeah, I'll give chance for any other input.

It does appear the beginning selection once started, there should be a pink screen, than blank blue, and then finally the court appears for what appears to be 2-4 frames, and then the two players appear. I imagine technically control doesn't happen until the players appear, but, I don't really know, and the court appearing first does appear to be a single frame transition and definitely useable

And on the ending marker proposed, it does take a few frames to transition into the end screen, including a couple frames "Won" before the player name appears "Player Won". Alternative proposal. When the player makes their 10th goal, winning the game, the tally marker updates with the 10th strike (2nd horizontal line on the count). This transition happens in a single visual frame, and coincides when the runner has won and lost control. It also cuts a few counts of down time off as well.

And naturally, imo, we should implement a millisecond rule for runs faster than a set time, like 1:19, since the game is definitely optimized at this point enough to matter. Naturally though, not every slow run needs that much moderation attention for millisecond timing unless needed.

Thoughts?

Bro,

No way, I was just thinking about posting this, this morning. I'm about to head to work, so it may be a week or two before fully implemented, but yes, I agree the audio que for timing needs to be changed to a visual one. I was noticing Ratron hasn't been around in 4 years now (side now.. wow)

I'll let others chime in as well, but barring any dissent, I'll double checking these reference points to familiar with myself with the exact visuals, and start looking at adding the process of retiming all the runs accordingly to the list of things to do!

Interesting; so there's just simply not enough time to get to million points starting later than shop 0; not too familiar with the point system exactly, so surprised it's different from Tetris in the aspect.

EsperantoNihilistComedyHour6 months ago

Yes, I don't see why not.

I'm thinking something like "1 Million Points (Shop 0)" would be accurate? I presume you are going to have to make it Shop 5 to get a score that high, but presumably, someone could start a pursuit of 1 Million Points from later in the game, which would be theoretically faster and harder.

So yeah, I don't mind adding that category.

No one would mod if that was the case... because then they couldn't run the game.

Anyone who would mod, would know comparatively little about speedrunning the game, if... they never speedran the game.

The reason most (particularly all the many small unpopular boards) have a moderator in the top 3, is because they were one of the few people who cared enough about the game to grind it down to a top 3 time, and also take the time to set up and moderate a board (an enormous time sink that takes away from other fun things like speedrunning, or basically anything else). When those people go inactive and next person actually runs, they try to beat the best times, and when mods go inactive and no one can mod a game, whoever is trying to submit a run to that game generally ends up as mod.

Anyone, whether they moderate or have ever even played that game at all, can examine all the same things about a run to examine them if they are suspect. Mods who have acted nefariously in the past generally get banned from the site, or removed as moderator at the very least.

If I can break out the leaderboards further, I'd probably just track them separately, but we may have hit a limit there already.

I'm not able to find any info immediately about the single disk version. You got a link handy I can take a look at it?

I think I remember this now, the four promo levels being like the Shadow of the Beast stuff; those 4 levels on the original Amiga version are replaced with 4 other levels. Just been a bit.

Worst case scenario, we might have to account for it the cat extensions, but I'd like to fit it in somehow (and account for those 4 alternative level versions).

As in, there is just less levels on the single disk version?

Had name updated to help clarify.

Back in the day, any FC or SFC runs back day were just listed as NES or SNES, with the region marker being the distinguishing factor (everyone knows a Japanese NES is FC, and the hardware if functionally equivalent; same for SFC). A bulk of the games are literally the same thing. Games that had regions worthy of a separate board because of differences were more the exception to the rule.

One day like a year ago, some mod decided to just add FC/SFC as consoles to the site for no apparent reason. Anyways, took some effort to clean up NES boards that could be better accounted for. Not sure how the name here slipped by me.

In any case, the TurboGrafx-16 / PC-E are similar in that regard. However, Hatris is a Japanese only release for the PC Engine, and it never came out for the TG-16/in the US. Funny enough, this website now treats TG-16/PC-E as the same console, but NES and FC are treated as separately.

There's a lot on this site that is years' of accumulative inconsistent site-wide treatment of things.

Anyways, everyone is updated now to best reflect things to how the site is set for you.

FC runs should be submitted to the NES board (name will be updated soon to Hatris (NES/FC) since the gameboard is older than the inclusion of FC as a specified console.

I will look into getting the PCE board up though.

You are trying to make "Complete (HTML5)" not visible on the levels page?

thread: Lemmings
EsperantoNihilistComedyHour8 months ago

That's a good idea. It would also help with the Sunsoft levels and would save massive adjustments to the normal board. So, yeah I'll be definitely be looking into getting something like that up very soon.

EsperantoNihilistComedyHour9 months ago

Makes sense to me; I'll update the rules shortly to account for this contingency for the time being.

Ah, brutal.

In my mind, Elo has not particular reason to care. But some of us original donors currently subscribe on an annual basis to Elo, or perhaps they might not on the next subscription period.
