I'll be a mod if that's what it takes to end these discussions.

Oh dear. Some comedy gold in this topic. The phrase "a condescending façade" is absolutely something I will keep in my personal vocabulary from now on. Also, henceforth I shall refer to Lafugo as "The Todd Rogers of Mario Kart" and David Moll will be "Lafungos lap dog" and "just an imbecile that has no idea what he is saying, but still wants to express himself." :P

On a serious note, PAL and NTSC speedruns of this game are incomparable both in terms of in game time (IGT) and real time (RT). A good PAL RT time for all cups is around the 33 minutes barrier, on NTSC this is 31 minutes. I can imagine that putting them in the same ladder can be a tad misleading at first glance* and I am actually personally to blame for this way back when I helped set up this section on speedrun.com. The thing is there are filters in place that can create distinct ladders anyway, so it's not really a problem once you know how to apply them. If anything, 1p and 2p should also be one of these filters, rather than a separate category altogether.

*I think most of the misunderstanding in this topic originated from this and the fact that DanOcampo and marth.sk are clearly not part of the Mario Kart Time Trialing community. Moll, Lafungo and Goomba are correct when stating that 1p GP is not a competitive category at all when compared to other leaderboards, such as the ones we have for Time Trials and individual course GP records (www.smkgp150cc.com), or indeed even 2p GP speedruns. So yes, as far speedrunning goes the 2p GP150cc section is far more pushed (also note how that is the default main section here), as it's how players like MD_Neo, Takashi, ScouB and me speedrun this game; it removes obstacles, makes victory screens shorter and is the way we're used to playing SMK at the annual World Championships. So 1p speedruns are mostly overlooked (by top players at least) and therefore submitting a record there without video proof is not REALLY a big deal.

Let's consider for example that the 2p mushroom cup record is a full minute faster and the advantage of 2p is not THAT massive...). Of course when in time the 1p records become more pushed, video proof will become more and more important. It's good courtesy to provide videos for anything you submit as a speedrunner, but immediately accusing a trusted member of cheating in the absence of this goes a few steps too far. Especially if his times have so much room for improvement still.

To end on a positive note, congrats on the new 1p Mushroom Cup WR Moll! ;) Expect a retaliation from the Todd Rogers of SMK soon...

The first draft of the schedule for the May BSG is up: http://www.speedrun.com/bsg/schedule

Please check your time slot(s) on the schedule and if you can make them work. In principle, everything is still adjustable when discussed / requested.

Same recepee as the previous editions, so please submit your games through the game submission form, which can be found here: https://goo.gl/jDy3iA

If at all possible, we would like the runners to batch submit all their runs at once. That said we will not enforce this as a policy; you can still add games as an afterthought, just make sure to keep it at a max of 5 runs. Also, if you have alternate submissions for the same game (e.g. SMB1 any% and/or 100%), please submit each alternative as a separate run.

Submissions will close the 11th of May (midnight CET, transition of Wednesday to Thursday).

Please get your games in on time! Late inclusions are possible, but very rarely appear on the schedule. Any questions regarding game submission can be asked here. Get those games in people!

Currently submitted runs can be viewed here: https://goo.gl/O39jCy

Cool prizes, I love those N64 magazine guides. Too bad I have less than a snowflake's chance in hell to win anything. :D

I've been saying that from the get go, 100% agreed.

Me too actually! During the run so much stuff went SOUTH (including Blue Screen of Death and worst txt messager RNG ever part 2¤) I was telling Zoton2 and Meridian we probably wouldn't make the estimate. Both of them were not too worried, I guess they were right. Shoutout to safe estimates.

At least the majority of missions went well I suppose, I especially liked how smooth Blitz Play was despite the intense controller swapping taking place. :)

Either way we were all happy with how much fun the run & concept were. Thnx for watching guys!

¤from the top of my head the txt message breakdown was like this (all reached the max of what I've ever seen): -Carbine Rifles 7 -Mini Sub 7 -Military Hardware 8

And of course Cleaning out the Bureau was the 5th car as well, though the traffic lights were kinda decent after.

4th of July is not only independence day (fireworks!), but also a Saturday. Hope you have the day off like us! :)

I feel like I should start with posting a disclaimer. The disclaimer being that this run is not with 100% certainty taking place, as it is not officially on the ESA schedule (yet). The reason I'm still deciding to create this topic is that I'm 90-95% sure that it WILL happen and have even booked airplane tickets based on this premise / assumption.

So, how, when, what, you may ask. But not after realizing...YES, GTA V will be run at a major speedrunning marathon!! And it will feature 3 runners, following the 1 character = 1 speedrunner concept. Cool right? Zoton2 as Franklin, Meridianprime as Trevor and me (KVD) as Michael.

The channel that it will be streamed on: http://www.twitch.tv/esamarathon2

ESA schedule (it will be on Yellow Stream): http://www.speedrun.com/esa2015/schedule

The plan is that we will run GTA V (Any% NMS) overnight in one of the longer open blocks. To be precise, the one from the night of 3rd to 4th of July on stream I (starting at 1:25AM CEST after GTA Vice City bingo).

All that needs to be done now is for Meridian (and/or Zoton2) to chalk it up on the white board @ the ESA venue (the board is meant for submitting runs for the open blocks). We talked to the people running ESA and its schedule and they gave the ok and didn't foresee any problems.

It's a graveyard shift for us Europeans (in terms of timezone), but for people watching from other continents (especially Americans) it's right at the golden hours. Hope to see of many as you as possible! Let's go for sub-7h, KAPPA.

Minutes before we started a Floyd% run on stream, I was just faffing about, until this random dude on the street tells me I have shitty karma...you are not gonna believe what happens next... O.o

BS txt message RNG, typical marathon stuff. :P

A fiery "that never happened before" @DreamHackspeedrun:

Utrecht, NetherlandsKVD8 years ago

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it. We certainly did! It was cool to see Matt, Toriks, Zoton2 & you chilling out in the stream chat throughout the run.

Utrecht, NetherlandsKVD8 years ago

Thanks man, good luck is more than welcome hehe.

I suppose this will be of special interest to our relatively small (for now) community of GTA V runners: There will be a run of GTA V at the upcoming DreamHack Speedrun event, next Sunday, the 14th of June. It will start at roughly 20:20 CEST.¤

http://www.twitch.tv/DreamhackSpeedrun http://www.speedrun.com/dreamhack/schedule https://twitter.com/DHSpeedrun

MeridianPrime and me (KVD) will be doing a co-op run of the Any% no Missions Skips category (PC version). Though admittedly we are not the bee's knees at speedrunning this game (people like Dekap, Dates and Zoton are still quite superior in their mastery of this game), we have grinded it quite a bit the last couple of weeks, studying the latest strats and developing some new ones of our own. As a result we have improved our co-op PB to 7h25m (with gold splits currently at 6h51m). Long story short, we will do our best to provide an entertaining showcase of the game and it would be great (no, awesome even) if some of you could tune in to support us a little! :)

¤Please note that this could be a little bit off considering it's a marathon and all.

Utrecht, NetherlandsKVD8 years ago

I'm taking the liberty to post this juicy little nugget from Dekap's stream:

It's f¤cking hilarious of course, but dang, this game can screw you over in so many unexpected ways..

Utrecht, NetherlandsKVD8 years ago

Oh My God...so harsh O.o I've seen some harsh trolls by this game, but this was is up there with the absolute best of them.
