@Lonne Apparantely some TVs are incompatible but there's no way to tell until you try it out.

@Alkaline Afraid I followed all those steps: an image appears on my computer, but not on the TV screen.

I wanted to record my run of Crash N.Sane, but both of our TVs hate my Elegato HD. I took a big gamble trying to see if it would work, but now I can't afford a different device, let alone a different TV. All I have now is my PS4's built in capture feature, but it only has an "elapsed time" feature, not anything like Livesplit. Would this be acceptable for submitting runs, or am I out of luck?

Is it me, or compared to the original games, are there strong differences in physics and how Crash moves/jumps etc? Some tricks from the old game no longer work, and I find Crash slips off platforms if you don't time jumps perfectly. Temple Ruins is the biggest offender so far, but maybe it's just me?

I've been trying to stream my PS1 to YouTube. So far it's been slowly improving in quality until this brick wall. After maybe 5 minutes of good quality steam, the video and audio lag out and go crazy on screen. The only fix is to restart OBS, thus constantly ending the stream!

A lot of this jargon is greek to me, so if anyone can help, please go easy with your explanations! ^^

EDIT: Captured an example with laggy moments starting at 5:50 and 16:45

It's a squid!

Now that I have your attention, I'm glad to be here! I got into games via the Crash Bandicoot platformer a and Mario 64. Lego Island played a part too!

I don't think I could make myself run those games again, or else I'd kill the nostalgia. (NSane is very different so it's ok!), I can no longer work due to a breathing illness, and so I'd like to devote my full time to speedrunning if possible. With support and friendly peeps, I could both help boost popularity of some games, and introduce unusual games to everybody.

I plan to try and have a good go at running:

  • Crash Team Racing
  • Crash NSane Trilogy
  • Sheep Dog N Wolf
  • Bust A Move 2 and 4
  • Parappa HD
  • Croc 2
  • Super Puzzle Sisters

I've been practicing Crash Team Racing, and was doing well until I reached Papu's Pyramid. There, I cannot beat the "Oxide" staff ghost after triple figures worth of attempts. And yet I see loads of videos of people getting it right in one go flawlessly. How long does it take to become good, especially if you have s horrid memory like myself? And more importantly, are so many mistakes normal in the learning process?

Either for each track individually, or for clearing Arcade 100%? Still learning the basics, even Sacred Fire, but I plan to improve eventually xD

As a side question, where does Crash himself stand on the tier list?

I came across one of my old Demo1 discs for the PS1, the first to be released for the console. It crossed my mind that it would be really fun to try and rush through every game/level in the demo as a speedrun. Has anyone done something similar before, or does it just not count?

EDIT: Here's a sample with the demo menus and an included level from ESPN.

As much as I love 2, I enjoy 4 as well. Is there a way to speedrun that game, maybe on Challenge mode?

As much as I want to get the original DS version back, I can't. Is it possible to run the Android version instead, in a different category?

Any chance of a category for finding everything in the alternative mode, and unlocking all the Dioramas?

I think a perfect Good playthrough would be good criteria. Making a mistake that causes the Bad indicator to flash would be a penalty. The runs could include a perfect play of the initial 6 stages, or a standard play of the 6 songs, plus every remix. You could also play through the game once to unlock Cool mode, then continue until you unlock the secret dancing scene as a 100% criteria.

I know this game isn't popular, but is a category for each stage in Free mode possible? This removes the RNG of power ups and allows more free choice of characters for each stage if needed.
