Should we ban this strategy?
I have been able to repeat this by mashing shift + enter as I hit b to found the city.

Yes it would seem this was a save file that already had a science set up for research as well. I'm not sure if it was because of the old rules we had, but this is not allowed with the current rules. Thanks for pointing it out, and I will remove it from the leaderboard.
Sorry about this we have bilingual moderators. I speak primarily english but I know some french. The french translation for "artificial intelligence" is "intelligence artificielle". I think Hilax made that leaderboard and he is from France so that would make sense. I've change it to the english abbreviation to avoid more confusion.
What are all the actions that would be considered "starting"? I've thought of a few.
City founding Moving a unit Selecting a research
Are there any others you can think of?
Added vanilla under misc categories.
Yea this is why I wanted to start the time on Begin Journey. This will basically wipe the any% leaderboards, but I don't think it is that big of a deal.
I'd like to hear more from other runners and moderators before we change anything. http://www.strawpoll.me/10110542
We will probably change it to, Start time on "Begin Journey" and end time on "Last click before victory screen"
For NG+ I'd assume mission order wouldn't matter (runners choice). NG+ would be finish all the story missions in one playthrough. Maby have an RTA time (start on new game/end at mission complete on last mission) Time without loads, that is the missions alone (only run the timer when you cross this mission wall and pause when mission complete comes up) would be the ranking factor?
I do think any% should be different though because you have to travel to an area before you can fast travel there. Only have an RTA for any%. The only place we can prevent unnecessary lag is the opening cutscene, by starting after character creation (minor inconvenience). On the other hand NG+ you would just fast travel as soon as you finish a mission, so it makes sense to cut out the loading times.
I only say after character creation to reduce differences in timing due to lag between loading the cutscene and loading the game. But I don't think it will matter as much because you will get the same lag inconsistencies in fast traveling. Either way there will be lag rng throughout the run so I am fine with starting it at new game click/button press.
That sounds good, but when should the timer start and stop? I think it should end on mission complete at general assembly. And I think we should start it after character creation when you gain control and new mission first appears at the top of the screen.
Sounds like a good idea. I have thought of some rules for it.
- Any era start.
- Start time at first city founding.
- End time on last click.
- Play on deity difficulty (show proof in video).
If you have any changes or suggestions, let me know.
Start on "Begin Journey", end on victory screen? Or end on last click? Or leave it as it is?
Alright I've added the "any era start" to the all victory rules. The 4 main categories will remain ancient era start, and time victory is irrelevant for this. Although I am thinking of reinstating the "time starts on begin journey" ends on victory screen appearing. I will make another forum post about that though. I appreciate all the input.
Should we force all, or just certain categories, to start at the ancient era? I believe Science should have to start at the ancient era, but I am open to allowing era choosing for all victory.
I've added ancient start to the rules of : Science, Diplomatic, Cultural, and Domination.
The big question is: Should we allow players to start at the Information Era for All victory runs?
I would like runner input to make the best decision on this matter.
Hey, could I get mod for So Many Me? I submitted a run 5 days ago and the only mod hasn't been on in 2 months. I also sent him a message on twitch and have yet to hear back. I am on daily and can approve runs as they come in.
Oh alright. I would assume that doing them all on one save would be faster but if you want to try it as 4 separate files then sure. I would accept it as a run.
I'm having a little trouble understanding what you mean by "4 save". Could you elaborate a little please?
I would say to keep the timer going until the last click on the last victory.
We need a more consistent timing method, I think you should start the timer when you click "Begin your Journey" and end it when the victory screen appears. This will make timing more precise as the times are getting under 1 minute now.
How would you feel about adding some misc categories to the full game run? eg. science win, diplomatic win, military win.
The mods for civilization haven't been on in- 4 weeks for one, and 5 days for the other. Please give either me or HilaxSpeedruns mod because we are both on daily and can approve runs as they come in.
