I inherited mod responsibility for all versions of Dune 2, since original mods losed interest. I'm mostly qualified to address issues with the MS-DOS version and don't know much about Genesis games or emulation. I've been trying to get Genesis version runners to moderate that section of the board, but nobody seems to be sticking around.
This hasn't been much of an issue, since there haven't been many runs for long perioids of time. Recently there has been accusations about the validity of some runs and I'd rather not try to assert myself into a topic I know little about.
So I'm asking if there is anyone who would be willing to moderate the Genesis board and validate runs. Some previous moderation and Genesis emulation experience would be ideal.
I'm making this post hoping to avoid confusion in the future. These rules are based on what's been done on previous runs so far and to keep the rules simple and fair as possible.
Conquest category: All settings (including animations, messages, end of turn wait, manual combat etc.) must be enabled! Spell of mastery category: All settings are optional! Difficulty must be set to impossible on both categories, but other new game options are up to player. Further details in category rules.
It's possible to consider adding subcategories, if someone wants to (for example) play spell of mastery category on manual combat. Any questions or suggestions are welcome.
I made a change in timing rules. Previous rule was to start timer when pressing F7 to start the game. New rule starts timing when the first screen becomes visible (further corrective in category rules). This change was made due to difficulty of estimating start of game, because of delay.
Milliseconds are also now implemented and current top3 runs have been retimed.
@TheMotherBrain86 Hi, I'm working on Amiga run for this game. Would you mind adding Amiga category?
I played this game a bit and got a lucky moonstone from the dragon. Never saw that happen before. I noticed Any% rules say this: "You must slay the Guardian and Obtain the Moonstone". Maybe worth creating separate Any% category for the "normal" route, collecting all keys and slaying the guardian? Whatever is fine with me.
We now a have a run for the Amiga version! It's apparently timed from when the level has loaded to when first victory screen has loaded. With DOS version the loading of victory screens are pretty much instant, whereas the Amiga version loads each several seconds from a floppy. Submitted video for some reason was cut before the password screen appears.
I thought it might not be necessary to include the load times for the Amiga version, because those can be reduced or eliminated by playing HD installed version (such as WHDLoad) or by modifying floppy speed settings on the emulator. So I'm suggesting timing to end when the screen freezes and music fades, but using the same start of time as the DOS version, from placing the castle. In this case without doing a frame count, start time of the submitted video would be 0m 29s and end time 31m 11s and total time 30m 42s.
Also, please check the current rules for timing and I'm open to feedback if you have suggestions regarding this.
There are three alternative maps for each house on missions 2-7 and two on mission 8. I added map variable to individual levels. This field is not required, but recommended. It's easier to keep track of which map has the current record and this can also help with planning a route for full-game runs. Also, in case someone wants to add a time for any alternative map, it's now possible. For missions 1 & 9, where there's only one map, it's obviously not needed to put anything there. Only best time for each mission is still shown on leaderboard. I filled this variable for current runs.
I changed the rules a bit. Video recording is now required, even though all submitted runs already had a video proof. Verification is not required anymore. In an unlikely event there seems to be something dubious about a submitted run, it can be pointed out in the forums. Also added Krzysiek as mod. Let me know if there are any objections.
