If you guys need someone with time to just watch runs I can do that. I'm the only mod on Gotcha Force that actually reviews runs and I have plenty of free time.

Alright thanks for replying so fast guys. I saw the other posts but that rule was created with only NG+ in mind so I thought bringing this up in a new thread would be worthwhile.

I don't understand how slightly different rules would bring confusion to new or veteran runners. It's extremely normal for different categories to have different rules.

I understood why you wouldn't reset on a mistakes you make in NG+ because of the in-game timer. But it's extremely weird for a game that is timed by RTA to not take advantage of checkpoint resets to fix mistakes.

I'm really confused to why all the mods would agree "non-tactical resets should not be open to exceptions" because that's exactly what all the non-tactical resets rules are exceptions. There are exceptions for co-op (reset to let partner join) and 100% (reset because you forgot to obtain a treasure (also doesn't make sense why this rule wouldn't apply to NG as well)) so I think I really need it explained to me why it wouldn't be ok for New Game to have an exception.

If the rule never changes I really don't mind. All it means is more resets. I just thought I should bring it up since that rule doesn't really fit into an any% category.

I think we either need to switch New Game runs to IGT or make a change to the rules for Tactical and Non-Tactical resets.

"It's considered a non-tactical reset when you:

  • reset to prevent time-loss from dying
  • reset when you don't get a quick kill, or make a mistake on a boss (Wesker, Jill, Irvin, etc.)"

These rules both make a lot of sense in a run timed by IGT because using a checkpoint reset takes the timer back to when the checkpoint was made. However, we use RTA in New Game runs, so neither of the rules make sense if you're trying to get the fastest time possible.

Personally I think we should make the switch for New Game to become IGT. Pretty much the only positive thing RTA has is that the timer counts the Menuing but that means we can't compare PC and console because of load times.

Yeah that should be fine. I think it's just announcing the things you unlocked in both the main game and raid mode since switching save files.

About to start practicing to get back into running the Gamecube NTSC version again. I remember there being a video showing a semi reliable way of performing the skip-skip but I can't find anything.

The video in the guide section is missing.

I've been trying to find it again and I can't find it anywhere on Youtube. I think Auddy made it but not 100% sure.

If I fail the Ep 6 Oob is it be ok to checkpoint reset or would that end up going against the Single Segment rule?

Hey I'm starting to learn some of things about running RE5 on the PC and am thinking about starting with the New Game Solo category.

I found this guide for learning New Game Normal and thought I should ask which parts of the run would be different between Normal and Amateur.

What happened to Auddy's GC NG+ run?

United StatesDanschemen8 years ago

I only have the NTSC version and was wondering what are the differences between the versions?

United StatesDanschemen8 years ago

Ok that makes sense. Also in Alan's Segmented NG+ GC NTSC run he doesn't take any damage in the Water room but still was able to kill the red zealot in 3-2 and I can't figure out why. Every run I've done I usually have to heal at least 2 full time in there to get the DA to the right spot for me.

I was looking over the Rank Analysis again and noticed that it mentions that fighting Mendez resets the rank along with a couple of other bosses. So all the damage we take on the lift only effects the Mendez fight, right?

There's a discussion over RE5 about their leaderboards and this example from another mk64 came up. http://www.speedrun.com/mk64 Is it possible we could get subcategories like this to separate all the consoles or are there too many for this to be a realistic option?

United StatesDanschemen8 years ago

Yeah if you have a problem getting something down just come back another time to learn it. Took me forever to get Del Lago down and I still mess it up sometimes.

So what are all the different ways to do the lazer skip? I usually just open the inventory and switch to the striker with an audio cue but I heard about a faster way. Morse66 has this inventoryless way to do the skip but I have to switch to the striker eventually anyway so I don't know if this really saves much.

Usually it's worth to just start streaming and eventually people will show up. Also if you have a twitter or facebook to announce whenever you're going live it usually helps.
