Absolutely insane place to drop a spam ad. I respect it

Routed this thing back in the day but never did a run because I discovered Spirit Form Glitch and went back to any% instead. I get all songs/treasures/recipes/pets/verse eggs/memories/third cooking slot. If someone thinks you should get more or less stuff let me know.

I don't really care whether this has a leaderboard or not if no one else ends up running this but I figured that I should post it here

Was inspired to mess around in Aquaria again and found a glitch that I'd gotten a few times before by accident but never knew how to do on purpose. You can start a new game with higher max health than you should by loading a save file, doing a pause exit exit and then starting your new game. I don't think that it should be allowed for any% runs but idk I'd like some more input on this.

So I did some research into this aeons ago, back when my PB was a 43:59 and at the time I found that a typical Rave was about 9 seconds slower than my typical Cave (Time difference does of course depend on your RNG in Rave/ how much of a Mashing Machine you are in Cave). Looking at the Rave IL now though I does not seem very optimal:

Also after that I found a very risky but very fast strat for the room which spawns four bombs where, if youdestroy a bomb right as your I-frames run out you can hit a lot of arrows at once, but that involves a lot of damage tanking so idk it's scary. Example here:

However, if I remember correctly that room specifically was changed along with the steam rerelease so idk how good the strat is now.

Anyway I always found Cave to be much more consistent and safer, but I do still think that it is quite a difficult level to learn/play, so if you are more confident with Rave I'd say go for it for now.

nvm you can use the AQconfig application to enable/disable vsync, no need to mess with your graphics card settings :v

ALright I got the high FPS. You have to go to the control panel of your graphics card and turn off vsync there. I get about 140 FPS during gameplay if I just have Aquaria open. Is there any door or object in particular that is easier to get past than others? And does it really only work if you have your recording software turned on? I'll try again tomorrow on a worse computer.

For me Aquaria is always capped at 60 FPS at most. How did you get past that? And what software did you use to record this video because aside from a few bad lag spikes it looks like a fairly stable 30 fps video to me.

Say Henry can you tell me a bit more about how you preform the glitch? Because I have been trying with lag that gets me below 40 FPS and I can't get anything out of the ordinary to happen.

Also I think the categories should be seperate because the two runs are quite different at numerous points, as this skips Energy Temple and Sunken City (but includes Sun Temple, which is neat). Also I want to try and see if I can get my PC to be this laggy and do a run of it but then if I submit the other run will disappear from the leaderboard :(

Just finished watching. You run on the steam version right Henry? If you press Shift+Tab, then click settings at the bottom and then click in-game you can turn on the FPS counter. At what FPS does the game run when you can swim through objects like that?

Discussion about extending the leaderboards is pointless because there isn't any type of competition at all, and if anyone needs any help with the run they can just ask me on twitter/youtube and I'll help them out. If you want to race just ask someone personally since there aren't that many people actually know what they are doing. No need for a community Discord server if there is no community.

I wouldn't really mind adding the Seahorse Race a seperate category, as it is a clear subgoal, well defined within the game itself, but as for other arbitrary categories I don't feel like they have a place on the leaderboard as they just make it a cluttered mess. And unless there are a lot of people that are interested in a particular category, the leaderboard doesn't gain anything from having it, so why bother?

Also there is no need for another mod. Vayarda has always verified runs quickly enough and I'm prettty sure they're not evil, so if there is anything that you need for the leaderboard you can just discuss it in the forum like we are doing right now :3

I just found a slight difference in damage knockback mechanics between the old and new version of the game. This only affects the third screen after the checkpoint in Nightmare. The old strat is still possible, but it's a lot more difficult. Here's the new strat I came up with: Just hold left after the first hit and you should be good.

Speaking of which, I've found two new small strats since my last PB:

For this strat it's very important to closely follow the movement on the first screen to dodge the noosiblis. At the second screen, the damage boost can be pretty tricky, so I recommend playing it safe by shooting a bit later so that you can just stand there and turn around instead of explode dashing

For this, you should make sure that you wait a moment before explode dashing away, because the planetworm sometimes flies too high and dodges the explosion hitboxes. Note that you have to hit it really early with your shuriken, or else the invisibility frames of the planetworm won't run out in time. You can also play it safe by waiting a bit further to the right.

Mibibli's Quest is a fairly straightforward speedgame and you can probably just learn it by trying to mimicing the record, but if you have any questions you can post them here. If you've found some new stuff you can post it here as well.

So a day before the steam version came around I asked Ubersaw what we should do with the old times, since the new version would add some stuff which would make it impossible to compare old times to new ones. To keep the history intact we decided to make a leaderboard for the old version as well.

However, since the final boss doesn't quite work the way we probably all thought, having two leaderboards seems somewhat unnecessary. The only changes to any% I've noticed are a room in Rave (3rd after the checkpoint) and the fact that you can't change weapons during screen transitions.

Has anyone noticed anything else? The changes I've noticed barely affect any of the runs of the leaderboards (no run fully takes advantages of the fast strat in Rave and the weapon switching can be worked around just fine). If nobody notices anything else then I think that it's just fine to have only one leaderboard

Should we switch the leaderboards to real time? I've been wondering for quite some why the leaderboards are in in-game time, since real time makes more sense to me. The difference between real time and in-game time is caused by the slowdown effect when you collect a full health potion for example. So to me, it would make more sense to prioritse real time since it rewards taking a risk and skipping the potion.

I would change it myself, but I didn't want to go full tyrant mode by changing it without asking around first :V
