I didn't even know they had a discord lol. I joined and think it would be really cool to have the speedrunning channels as part of the official discord. Maybe I can talk to more people who actually care/know about what I'm talking about now lol
I figured you would make your way over to DE4 based on your recent activity lol. I like that idea, and AscendingAnthem and I have actually been talking about strats for all 4 DE games in DMs for a year or so now. I asked for a discord before, and I think others have, but no one ever made one
I am currently trying a carless strat with Barry, ends the day with 40 minutes left. I did a carless route a while before just to see if it was possible for 100% routing, but that had Cody and Barry. I'll let you know how my attempts go (or maybe I'll beat the record, who knows).
Edit: It's much slower. Like 30 seconds slower. That or my execution is very poor, I think I talked to Sarge too much lol
Woah I'm not super used to back and forth on my strats and runs lol. I am not sure if it saves time since I haven't really tested it outside of the fact that it saves so much time in Any% to just do that instead of not. I didn't think about the sprinklers thing, I'll have to do that next time.
The problem with the ILs is that they all (except Day 1s) have prep which makes them slightly unreliable for the total time. Also the routing is probably a little more complicated than that since some scenarios make for easier setup in later scenarios.
You don't need to have a timer. Every video can be retimed after the fact and usually is for the most accurate time possible!
I know that plank is still around, they just gets busy every now and then. So maybe try dming them and seeing if that helps.
I feel like a TAS of this game wouldn't be too difficult to implement. We just need a program or something that can click exactly where it needs to in the first possible frame every time and then we can see the fastest achievable time. I'm not sure if sub 20 is possible, but maybe something right around there or 21, current WR and you are pretty close to perfection.
Well since the Don't Escape Trilogy was released separately on Steam, that could be added as a separate entity, like the Duck Life 3 in 1 Retro Pack was. This could host a Trilogy run leaderboard and an Any% and 100% leaderboard as well as a Trilogy/Anthology option under each category. I feel like this would be a good work around.
I posted on the Don't Escape series forum with this idea and no one has responded or looked at it other than me, so I'm posting it here, too. I was thinking that a good idea for a category would be a full trilogy since all three of the original games are in the same launcher on Steam, or all 4 games. There could be an Any% category where it's just beat all of the games back to back as fast as possible and a 100% category which would probably have to be more strictly defined. I don't know who else would be up for it seeing as the community is mostly inactive, but I think it would be a fun addition that I'd like to route/run.
I am not sure how many people would be up for this or where we would put the category, but seeing that all of of the original trilogy and Don't Escape 4 are on Steam I figured that maybe some runs could come out of this. A Trilogy run seems like an easy idea since they're all in the same launcher on steam, but I think that doing one with the whole series could be fun. I just wanted to pitch this idea to the community and see what everyone's thoughts were about this potential run idea.
There could be different categories like 100% where you complete all of the 100% requirements for each game in order, and Any% where you just complete all of the games as fast as possible back to back. I think it would be a nice add on for those interested.
I feel like a perfect moon base run would be the true ending version of the moon base. As long as people are already setting up practice sections and runs of single levels for perfect, I don't see why they wouldn't be able to set up a save for this run as well.
I think that as far as individual day timing goes I think that splitting as soon as the screen fades after the night is over should be the time you split at because in literal terms that is the end of the first day, and the sun is rising as the second day begins.
I get your point on it being difficult to split during that since you basically have to be spam clicking with one or both hands and then quickly switch to being able to hit your split key as soon as your done with that and then go back to spam clicking again.
I was planning on doing each of the fastest IL runs before I do an Any% run so I can have some practice with each of them individually and I'd like to have the rules set in place before I practice the rest of the run.
The way I'm thinking of implementing it at least the first half of the run would be different because of a few things:
- You would have to pick up Barry or Cody during the first run to get one of the disks which changes the routing in some ways that I'm not sure yet because I haven't tried to implement it yet
-Then you have to kill off whoever you save after you get their disk with them
This changes Day 2 and 3 planning because you need to plan to do well enough for one extra person to stay alive and then do just well enough that one person dies, but you're still fine in the end
Other than that, Day 1, 4 and Moon remain unchanged, but it's still about 20% (when including both new game and awakening) of the run that needs rerouted, it could always be a category extension, like something different but not different enough for its own category
On the topic of new runs, I was wondering if there could be something like a 100% run, where you go through New Game and then go through Awakening Mode. I feel like this should stay more true to a real play-through of the game and have it start through the menu options of New Game and The Awakening rather than custom mode without disks, and then custom mode with one of the disks as I feel that simplifies the run too much.
Yeah just the end of day/level screen. I figured that was it, but I wanted to make sure because some other games have a key you can hold to super skip dialogue, I haven’t found one yet. I optimized Day 1 pretty well for Acid and submitted my run, so the time should be up soon.
