any speedrun category that mandates you spend about a sixth of the total time doing nothing (between the many cutscene, shodan cutscene, lack of korenchkin skip meaning you sit on the elevator 2 additional times) is likely not going to be very popular, at least to run yourself, maybe to watch it's something else.

i've been thinking a bit about the idea of some "glitchless" speedrun, or maybe just "no invincibility, no major skips" category that resembles the normal game a lot more, but still allows some neat tricks like smuggling from the training, free research, and character creation stat grinding. it's pure laziness that prevents me from routing it and doing anything though

here's a save where you just click once to kill shodan. grenade launcher already aimed at it. this is v2.45 if it matters, i can reproduce it on 2.47 if need be. thank you for doing this

i still care but real life has consumed time i would usually spend. we change the name of the "cutscenes" folder in the ss2 directory in order to make cutscenes not play.

Do you happen to know if door leaning still works? Basically lay a relocation marker next to the door while standing, and then lean into the door while you use relocation in order to clip through the door (and push the button on the near side of the elevator, the one that goes from rec to command). You can get the access card to Crew Quarters after doing the shodan cutscene skip and then be able to door-lean through the elevator to get to Command easily

Is it possible to gentle clip through the door to the nacelles in Engineering? If you can, you can instantly make the old dark version faster. It's the door if you turn left as soon as you go into engineering right before the ladder with the hatch, there's a button on the other side of the door that opens the door permanently without needing to purge the radiation. Why is it there? No clue.

If you can get it, it would instantly make the run so much... weirder. It'd be interesting!

edit: i read your post. the answer is no.

oh also theres dromed already on it, it's just that i dont actually use it to modify ss2, just investigate geometry to determine where my lines should be, how to set up the engineering shaft fall, etc

Minnesota, USAstraightbozo6 years ago

honestly if you don't want to work around it like that, email me proof that you legally own the game on gog/steam and i will give you my download of 2.45 that i had lying around on my hard drive so i could fuck around with dromed. obviously please do not redistribute. clkrisnik@gmail.com.invalid

oh so disruptions are still worse than frag/emp and modification still does the exact same thing as it does in vanilla, cool, nothing needs to happen at all. fun!

Minnesota, USAstraightbozo6 years ago

Although to be fair, they could very well have stayed true to their internal name of "toxin grenade" and chosen to have them do nothing to shodan for some reason, like it does in the vanilla game. idk what the deal is with that but you could prolly test real easy if you just summon_obj toxin grenade on a save right before shodan, with an updated ss2 of course

"Disruption grenades now actually deadly as per their description,"

So... should disruption grenades on modified gl be legal in any%? If they are no longer bugged to not have the modify bonuses (which are luckily unchanged, i still believe that 100% bonus damage on first modify is the laziest glitch in the game), I believe they're now capable of 3-shotting shodan without modify and getting damn close to 1-shotting with the modify on botm fling (5 heavy with a modified gl would require QUITE a lucky modify roll since you'd be limited to 1 modify unless you take a light detour and root around the garbage can in command). It takes nearly no detour to get the 3 disruptions right next to the body after hazmat, I always find myself grabbing his nanites despite not needing them at all, since I am extremely good at this game.

Although to be fair it's like a 1 second save at the cost of losing consistency i.e. grenades like usual sometimes explode on nothing so you'd have to rely on cryokinesis-ing shodan to actually win if you miss even one disruption

edit: actually if night dive were the people who own the IP now, i spose they can jus do whatever since this is the official version now. this sounds pretty stupid but i post before i think because im very good

Oh yeah also lean off one of the sides of it, not off the front of it. I always found myself getting stuck if i tried to lean off of it on the front.

Crouch up to it after restructuring the rumbler, once you react to standing up (preparing for the mantle), you should click and it should be just above the top rectangle in the structure. If it hovers above the diagonal part, too late, if it's on the floor or far from the structure, too early. it's difficult to get a hang of but once you get the hang of it it's prolly the most consistent oob besides rec

also yeah you gotta crouch->lean forward to fall off->let go of crouch

System Shock 2 - any% rules

Beat the game. Timing starts on loading of EARTH.mis (the first time that you can start buffering inputs) and ends when the SHODAN cutscene plays. Menuing commands (e.g. quickuse 3 when no Tier 2 or 4 Psi Powers are unlocked) are allowed. Cheat codes (e.g. ubermensch, add_pool 1000, summon_obj speed boost) are banned. Loading a file that was not created during timing (e.g. loading a file that puts you in an otherwise inaccessible location to set up a remote frob) is banned. All versions of the game are allowed. Model modifications (e.g. System Shock Rebirth) are banned. A major component of the speedrun is Dark Engine's bounciness allowing you to skip certain parts, and makes you avoid bouncing on enemies and undesirable level geometry, and model modifications can give players who modify models a clear advantage. Modifying textures is allowed, with the exception of ovm005.pcx, ovm015.pcx, the To Shuttle Control object, and the To Bridge object. The first two are necessary for precise out of bounds tricks in Body of the Many, giving players who modify those two textures to, say, add markers, a clear advantage, and the last two are needed for a slightly less precise out-of-bounds trick in Command.

System Shock 2 - All Modules, No Glitches, Impossible Difficulty rules Beat the game. You must pick up all 875 cyber modules in the game, as well as receiving the Naturally Able O/S Upgrade to get the last 8 in the game. Timing starts on loading of EARTH.mis (the first time that you can start buffering inputs) and ends when the SHODAN cutscene plays. This includes the cyber modules on Delacroix's body, receiving SHODAN's punishment for interacting with her body is neither required nor banned. You must start with the difficulty on Impossible and not change it throughout the run for any reason. Remote frobbing (e.g. using quickloading to frob the Ops Override through the window) is banned. Invincibility/"Dead Man Walking" is banned. Going out of bounds for any reason is banned. Using Relocation to lean through doors (e.g. leaning through the elevator in Recreation to skip reprogramming the sim units and turning on the transmitter) is banned. Breaking room loading triggers to grind stats during character creation is banned. Avoiding the trigger for the Body of the Many cutscene in Engineering is allowed. Skipping the SHODAN cutscene in Operations (both the wall-block method and the wall spitting-out method) are allowed. Jumping over the trigger for the Anatoly Korenchkin fight is allowed. Have i missed something? Is this too long-winded? I'm willing to bet these can be made better but I'm tired of people on systemshock.org saying they can like load a save at the shodan fight or use cheats to warp to maps, so we may as well have proper rules.

i felt kind of like modifying the script for AMNGID just in case someone wanted an autosplitter for it, here you go!

https://www.mediafire.com/?522olpebaaya4dc

also i still didnt solve the autosplitter for the end, i'm not the smartest person for that X)

Minnesota, USAstraightbozo7 years ago

hope this helps. i haven't tried this with cutscenes, although i'm sure that it still works with them.
