How does wall clipping work? Do you need P-Speed to do it or can you run normally? [Well aside from easy clips like the bowsers castle 1-up clip].
How do you maintain P-Speed through pipes? I have a vague idea of how this works, but I'm not certain of the process.
What are some other general skills and tricks that are useful for runs in smb3?
I looked over this guide by Mobiusman https://imgur.com/a/8MFIt
According to it the guide as well as frame data for the game you can only fire a missile once every 9 frames. 9 frames = 150 millisecond [0.150 seconds]. This is a bpm of 400.
If you set a metronome to run at 100, 200, or 400bpm it should be helpful. Again this is something musicians do to train to play their songs at the correct tempo.
Train with the metronome, then after you get in enough practice you'll no longer need the metronome.
Well. I didn't see anyone else mention this here, so why not. A common training technique in music when learning a new song is to practice with the metronome at 1/2 or sometimes 1/4 speed until you can flawlessly play the piece without error. Then once you've mastered it at 1/2 speed, move on up to 3/4 speed... then 100%, then 150%. If you can do it at 150% well, 100% will feel like cheating.
Personally with this game in particular I've been struggling with bomb jump timing, refill glitch, and jbj timing. Fortunately Bizhawk is has the 50% setting so I apply the same technique I use when learning a new song on the piano: 50%, 75%, 100%, 150%, then back to 100%.
And now Kraid [the area, not the giant monster] is less painful in the 100% category. I still am very very happy when I exit Kraid.
I hope this helps someone. Cause it's definitely helping me. Anyway, back to practicing. Good luck everyone.
Hello. I'm new here and newish to speed running. But newish I mean, I've definitely ran a few games and tried to get my times lower since I was younger but I never looked up advanced strategies on how to get competent times.
If you can't tell by my screen name, I like the Metroid series. Currently I've decided to start working on Zero mission. Anyone know how which emulators I should use to get this to run at decent speeds?
