Hi everyone,
I just made a discord server for the Professor Layton Speedruns community here on Speedrun.com. I thought, that it could be a helpful place for people to ask questions and to find help. So, feel free to join and ask away... :)

Well, the games, which I run all range between 1,5 hours to 2 hours. So, not too long, I guess.
PLatDB: For me it was, when I found out, how to skip the cutscenes in the game, which made an improvement of about half an hour.
Why would I trade skills? I mean, learning, practicing and improving the skills in a new game are basically the reasons, why people speed run, right?
For me that would be Professor Layton. I chose it, because it is a great game casually and an easy enough run to learn, since it doesn't really need a lot of mechanical skill. So, it is a good game to start speedruns, even though it is not a typical "speedrun game", I guess.
Did a lot change? I guess, I can adjust my guide, if the change is not too big.
Btw, if it is okay for you, then it would be great, if you could publish your US/EU routes/guides here on Speedrun.com
You can't turn it on. It is included in the rom, if you use the friendly version rom. There are two Japanese versions of the game. A normal version and a friendly version. The friendly version makes it possible for younger children to play the game, since furigana is added to the kanji, so that children can read it, even if they don't know the kanji.
Well, I haven't played Miracle Mask so far, so I don't know about all the details of the game. But the idea of the 100% category is, that every riddle, mini game and collectible (except for hint coins), which can be solved/acquired in one playthrough before the loss of control (the moment at which the run ends and is timed), have to be solved/acquired. So, if the other things, which you asked about, like Layton Challenges, are only available after the credits and after entering the game a second time, then they are not required for the 100% category, in my opinion.
No, it is not. Here are at least two games, where you still have that "problem".

The mini-games. So, for Azran Legacy it would be: Nutty Roller, Dress Up and Bloom Burst.
Following are the DeSmuME Settings for the emulator runs, so that the runs are more comparable. If not specifically noted here, then the setting is not activated (no check in the box).
Version 0.9.11
Frame Skip: Limit framerate Auto-minimize skipping 4
Emulation Settings: Use dynamic recomplier
3D Settings: Renderer: SoftRasterizer Enable Textures
Sound Settings Synchronous Synch Method "P" Sound Core: Direct Sound Interface Buffer Size: 5880 Interpolation: None
Seeing as you would be the first person to post a run, it pretty much is up to you, when you start and end timing. As it is different from game to game in the series and more important, that the runners have the same start and end point, so that it is possible to compare the times.
I just wrote it behind it in brackets, so that it is absolutely clear, that it has to be a completely new file and not something like a file, where they already watched the introductory video, which would save a few minutes. Maybe NG+ is a bad choice of term in that case, but couldn't think of another short term for that.
Why does everyone in the videos fight against Manglemaw? Is that necessary for the run? I mean, it is possible to go through the door without killing him. Of course it is just a few seconds that it takes to kill him, but isn't faster better?
