Good timezone to you all,
Please direct all runs done on Ultimate Enhanced Edition to the new board for that release. Thank you and happy running. https://www.speedrun.com/Gungrave_GORE_UEE
Just so it doesn't look like this thread has gone unanswered, here was the solution provided in the discord:
I'll have to take a look at it, tbh. I took over the board and just sort of assumed things were in order. Apparently not.
Non-expiring invite link for the discord server related to Entropy Effect speedrunning.
Emulators currently are not accepted as PCSX2 does not emulate the game accurately, and PCSX2 in general is pretty questionable as it runs all games slightly fast. If we were to allow emulator in the future it would be a separate category.
Just now seeing this, thanks notifications. Those difficulties are only available in NG+, and Easy is not a difficulty available in DMC2.
This is a general discord for playing Overture. Metalsnake is in here as well as myself. There isn't a section for speedrunning specifically but there is a lot of info on the game and speedrun discussion is welcomed.
Self-explanatory. Hub for learning and discussing the game. Also posting runs, streams, etc. This game was long overdue one of these.
Seems like Reply Studios has been doing a lot of bugfixes and paying attention to feedback recently, so they dropped a pretty big update for the game today. Seems like everything in here will be beneficial to runs. I haven't been running or anything and don't plan to again for a long while but this is still cool to see.

If you read the description of the category, or watch any of the runs, you'll notice that Peak of Darkness is the final room of mission 7, where you fight Vergil at the top of temenigru. Peak of Darkness is simply playing through missions 1 through 7. It started as a tournament race format and was eventually made into boards as you see here.
You can find dmc3se on pretty much any platform of your choosing.
I think I might not be getting the double instances of damage (as in two hits, not doubled damage of one hit) I see against some bosses, weirdly enough. I'd probably just chalk it up to me not getting the dodges but I'll check again soon. Also wouldn't be surprised if twin swords got buffed in international release.
Yeah I was getting bodied on final stage during my casual playthrough and I was like holy hell lol. I also dunno if twin swords charged attack does as much on JP? Idr, might be bugging. I think I'll science out some of those stages on JP then tbh. Which ones needed testing?
Shame to hear tbh. Do still kinda want to route that version even after doing a run on NTSC-U/C, because I'm kinda curious as to how much slower it would actually be. Probably a lot, I'd imagine.
So I've been practicing on NTSC-J (since a copy of that was about 200 dollars less than NTSC-U/C) and had a couple questions.
I've been able to replicate basically every strat/technique except those involving Master Mode. Namely the boss on stage...9 I want to say? Master mode always runs out prematurely since it seems that you cannot build master bar while Master mode is active in NTSC-J. Additionally, you seem locked into the animations of master mode and cannot dodge out of it, as seen in WR. Am I doing something incorrectly or is NTSC-J just gonna require a bit of rerouting the master mode uses (maybe a different weapon choice on stage 9)? And if I'm doing something wrong to get the dodge out of master mode, what's the actual input being done?
I should prob catalogue the differences between the two versions because unsure if that's been done yet. Like the defense stat wasn't added until the U/C version etc.
Hey there, and welcome to the new Chaos Legion leaderboards. In this thread, I'll be going over the changes I've made to the boards.
1. Runs of all regional versions of the game have been merged This is pretty important, and subject to change in the future, so I'll get it out of the way. NTSC-J is the fastest way to run the game, point blank. Putting it simply, the NTSC-J difficulties are about a step down from the NTSC-U/C + PAL versions (i.e. Normal on NTSC-J is equivalent to Easy on NTSC-U/C + PAL). There's a bit more to it that isn't quite 1:1 easier or harder, but overall the game is just much faster on the respective difficulties, especially Hard. I highly encourage people interested in this game to seek out an NTSC-J copy and run on that. Overall, I felt that having the versions split up created a lot of bloat on the board. With that being said, I'm totally open in the future to splitting up the versions by language again (i.e. JP and ENG, as they were before) if people prefer to run and compete separately on NTSC-UC + PAL.
2. Normal is now the default category instead of Hard Normal seems to be the best balance of difficulty and speed for this game. Really not much else to it, except that if Hard were the default category then it would be unfair to ENG versions since ENG Hard is significantly harder than JP Hard (we're talking like 2 hours difference).
3. Easy difficulty added, Super Mode moved to misc. category I found it a little strange that Easy wasn't on the boards anymore so I added it back. Super Mode I moved to a misc. category as it is not a very serious category since you one-shot everything.
4. All regions are timed the same Previously, NTSC-J had used JRTA timing, for no provable reason. Every version now times starting when "Game Start" is selected, and ends on the final hit of Siela. If evidence is presented that would merit changing this, then I'd be happy to do so! But as it stands now, this new timing method will make resetting less of a hassle and save about six minutes of a runner's time between waiting for the console to power on and sitting through the credits after killing Siela.
That's about it. I'm going to start working on resources to help new runners get into the game as well, as those need overhauling. Much love and happy running.
P.S. I kept the main PC category around but if it sits empty for another six months or whatever (it has been empty for about 7 years already), then I'll be deleting it. The PC version is not all that stable and may be more of a hassle to run than it's worth, since it is based on the ENG version of the game.
Did a run today, it was bad. Run's mostly as I thought it would be, too long for the type of game it is. Probably will not do another for a long while. If OoBs get found to cut the time down that would be great. Found a fight skip on revelations though. This shall be my contribution to the speedrun.
Until it's proven it can be done I see no reason to entertain the idea and make rules + a category for it.
100% NG+ would essentially be CAKE, so might as well do that both for NG and NG+ though.
I'm gonna do NG+ Any% tonight since I got time. Worth noting, the game gives you the option to skip the memories in NG+, so I will be doing that, as it will save a bunch of time.
