Hello, can you change the Games Type of SA2 Conversion https://www.speedrun.com/sa2conv to "Modification" and the base game to "Sonic Adventure (DX)" please?
Thanks!
That's what I meant by "HD version", this might work, but I haven't tested myself.
Well some people simply don't know that you can soft reset on Console, also you can't soft reset on the HD version. Perhaps you can close and re open the game, but I'm not sure, haven't tried myself. As for 130 Emblems, you can't skip the credits since that will skip the emblem at the end (which you need.)
We now have our own server for SADX Speedrunning. Feel free to join.
Better SADX and DC mod are not allowed on this board, however, there is a category for it on the extension board, you can also play with character modded as long as it doesn't change gameplay:
This is the public SADX Randomizer Discord server, currently using the Sonic Adventure 2 one, it includes a SADX channel, feel free to join.
Q: Can you add more seed category? A: Yes, if you find a good seed and at least 2 people made a run of it, this can be added on the board.
Q: Why is banning a character not allowed? A: To make the competition fair, everyone should keep the same settings as much as possible. If you ban Big and Gamma for example, you will get different stages and will complete them faster than if you had Big or Gamma in that case. In other word, you will get an unfair advantage. Also, I don't want this speedgame to be just people who ban everyone except Sonic and Tails, as they are the most broken characters in this game.
Q: Why is quitting a stage not allowed? A: Again, to make the competition fair, if people start quitting everytime they get something which take too long, this would be unfair against people who don't, specially for custom seed.
What is “IGT / in-game time”?
IGT means in-game time, it’s generally used when the RTA is not fair enough. In fact, we call that IGT but as for SADX, it's more like "balanced RTA" because the game runs to a totally unstable framerate (depending on the hardware / OS and other factors.) For example, the game is running faster on Windows 7, so we have set up a Balanced RTA (or IGT whatever) represents the what your time would be if there were 60 frames in a second. So as for SADX, “IGT” is like a frame counter.
How do I set up the IGT?
You can check this video:
or this written guide here. https://www.speedrun.com/sadxrando/guide/v107q
Why is my IGT higher/lower than my RTA?
This is quite normal, again, the game doesn’t run at a stable 60 fps, so if your game is running faster than 60 fps (which is common) the timer will accelerate. However, it will slow down if your game is slower than 60 fps (or if your loads are just bad.)
If there are any more questions, feel free to ask them here.
IGT script doesn't start and split for you. As for the actual autosplitter script, it only works for PC disc. You honestly should take the PC disc version, as it is the best version for speedrunning this game anyway.
Metal Sonic is not allowed for ILs.
Level LB uses the in-game timer, so you must use Story Mode. That being said, there is a collection of save file for Tails's Story in the resources, you will find a save file just before Sand Hill.
I have the same issue, it started just after I changed my username few months ago, if someone could update us about a fix, that would be great, because this is really annoying to not be able to change settings.
Well, for the Spin dash stuff, here is an easy way to go fast. You charge your first spin dash, then you let it go, then you keep breaking it with the action button. Usually, beginners keep using the action button without any spin dash charge and this is actually slow. If you pay attention to the top runners, you will notice that they are charging a first spin dash before actually breaking it.
Now, there is another way to go fast with the spin dash, it's not really for beginner, but if you feel learn it someday, here is actually how to do it: it's called chain spin dash or TAS spin dash. Basically same idea, you charge a first spin dash, then you break it, but this time, you want to break it by alternate both action buttons, since you are on PS3, that means you have to alternate Square and Circle buttons again and again. That also requires a specific position with your fingers. If done correctly, you will notice that Sonic is definitely faster. Here is a video with hand cam stuff, you will understand a little bit better what I'm saying:
As for a full run... well there is no really "ideal" moment to start a first full run, but obviously it's better if you can practice and become more consistent before actually start. Now for your first few runs, don't look for the perfect run or don't keep resseting for dumb mistakes, otherwise you will never improve. I can say that by experience, the best way to get good at this game is playing it a lot and also watching many runners of different skill levels. General movement in this game isn't that hard and if you play it a lot, you will notice that you will get better feeling for it. Now, obviously it takes a lot of time and you will have to understand why issues happens and how to avoid them if you really want to improve.
If you haven't already, I highly recommend watching Gpro's tutorial, which will teach you the most important stuff for this game.
If you have more questions, you can also join the Discord. :)
Little update, We added the mission mode category and also Story Style Level leaderboard, for more information you guys can check this: https://www.speedrun.com/sadx_extensions/thread/sq35f
Hey SADX runners,
Some of you may noticed that we recently added a "Level Leaderboard" for SADX Category Extension. I'm making this FAQ before some questions come about that.
- So what is the point of adding an ILs board since the original game already has one?
Well, this one is using a "Story Style" and a "Single Segment." that's mean you MUST complete the stage without restarting at any checkpoints, and you have to use the same path that during a story run. (Unlike the ILs on the original game where you usually use different routes / strats.)
- What is the point of Story Style and Single Segment?
The idea is to show the ideal time possible for some stages in a story run. It's different than an original IL because you don't use the same route and you also don't restart. Runs are neat and fast. It is also a good way for you if you want to practice.
- Why Tails and Big are missing for those ILs?
That's because their ILs are already completed in a story style and a single segment on the original board, there is absolutely no difference, so we are not going to add duplicate stuff.
- It looks like some stages are missing, why?
Those stages are already done in single segment and story style on the original board, like Twinkle Park, so again, we're not going to add duplicate stuff.
- How Gamma stages work?
So, unlike the original Gamma ILs where you want to kill ennemies as much as you can, the idea here is still to show the ideal time but in a RTA context by trying to go fast. So we decided to allow ghost mod for that, so you can see if you beated your old time.
- I saw some people completed a stage without getting 10 sec added on their final time, how is this possible?
You need to do the emblem glitch, basically, when you are in adventure mode, if you soft reset at the end of a stage during the emblem count, you can come back to the stage, the game will show you the mission B as a goal instead of the C, BUT the emerald is gonna still be present and the timer won't add 10 sec. Genius.
- About upgrades that you normally don't have during a stage?
We are still discussing about what is allowed and what is not, but the main idea is: do NOT use upgrades that you normally do not have equipped in a regular story playthrough at this point.
If you guys have some questions, feel free to ask here. :)
Hello SADX Runners,
Today, we have a few changes to leaderboard rules for you all. Nothing too major though.
First, you may have noticed that the PC/Steam board is ranked by In-game time now.
IGT has been a major topic for a lot of you, we originally started collecting IGT since September 10th, 2017 and I know many people have been waiting for it to become the main timing method for SADX PC and Steam. Well, it's finally done, thank you all for your patience.
Consoles are still ranked by RTA as they are separated from PC/Steam board. Also, reminder than SADX IGT is a framecounter which represents the what your time would be if there were 60 frames in a second, so we can't really use it on consoles.
The other rule change we have in place regards Voice modifications. This is unrelated to Music modifications. Voice clip modification is prohibited as they impact in the game directly, however, you may delete voice clips or swap between the Japanese and English Variants as you please. The basic premise being no custom voice clips.
For more information, please check the rules.
If any of you have questions regarding these changes, feel free to ask here. :)
