For anyone who runs this game on emulator, I made an autosplitter here https://github.com/cactuar1989/nes_autosplitters/tree/main/Contra . I don't speedrun this game so lmk if the splits are not right, especially for the last boss.
Sweet! I tried this out and it works fine for me on Mesen 9.8.0, but 9.9.0 didn't work for some reason. The issue is most likely on my end though, not sure. I'm new to LiveSplit.
About the split timings: It seems like all the splits are being triggered right at boss death, but I think they should be at "loss of player control" which happens about 3 seconds later, slightly before the victory music plays.
Even as-is, this is helpful to me. Thanks!
Thank you so much for the feedback! I'll have to download a copy of Mesen 9.9.0 to test (I only use Nestopia or FCEUX usually) and I'll see if I can watch some other people's runs and check when their timer stops. I only play casually so wasn't 100% sure. EDIT: I updated the github repo for the Contra split condition, lmk if it looks more accurate now.
@Slormer, tested today with Mesen 0.9.9 build date 2/1/2020 and verified the autosplitter is working for this version of the emulator.
Not sure how hard these are to make, but would it be possible to get one for Operation C on Gameboy? Would love an auto splitter for it.
I've been using this AutoSplit program with my gv-usb-2 and nes and it works pretty well. Can be any game or system. If you wanted to write the AutoSplit script you just have to find reliable code changes that always happen when you beat a level etc using a hex editor. https://github.com/Toufool/AutoSplit
I can't get the autoplitter to work. From LiveSplit window, I do the following:
Right-click --> Edit Layout --> + Sign --> Control --> Scriptable Auto Splitter --> browse for and select contra.asl
The splitter doesn't trigger at start of gameplay or at end of levels.
