It's actually faster to take a little damage at some point before the final boss, but you shouldn't need extra health bars for it.
Co-op sounds fun. 999 seems excessive. It would basically start with an any% run, and then several days of running through Disappearance Path. Even if you start with a 100% run, then get all the titles, there would still just be a bunch of Disappearance Path grinding to finish.
@kevsomeone Could you please clarify the rules a bit? Does "press start" refer to the rules screen, the character selection screen, or the start of the first battle? Also, I'm assuming the time would end if the opponent's rope runs out in the final battle as well. I'm sure the handicap must be set to zero, but can we choose any speed?

I think what you suggested makes sense. The screen takes the same amount of time to fade out whether you press Start from the main screen or the level select, so it should be okay to keep the same start time.
I had considered that, and told myself I would time it someday. But I haven't yet :( I'll try it sometime tonight.
For the Any% category, would it be possible to allow using level select to go to Dr. Dis 2, and then starting when pressing start on Bell Castle 1? It saves us from having to wait for the fifth demo on every reset, but saves no time during the run (as long as we haven't seen any password screens).
That's amazing! I tried holding left early, but he didn't move till he reached the top of the wall. I'm not sure what else could even be attempted.
