Hello!
So at the beginning of the map you'd usually raid the tomb right away to try to get a good artifact. Now, the arguably best artifact to get for speedrunning purposes is armageddons blade. It gives you an insane advantage early on to establish yourself on the map. A quite boring way to do this is to continually reset the run until you get it. This is time consuming and tedious.
How do we feel about starting the map on a save where the only thing you've done is to raid the tomb and get armageddons blade? So you don't have to try to get it over and over each time you want to speedrun the map? One issue with this is that you can then know what all the other artifacts are as well and play accordingly. I have one such file save and in that one I also know where book of earth magic is which can give me a very early town portal, which is also incredibly good for speedrunning.
In the no WW% category rules it says: "You must do at least one : MS or LJ or ES or EW to submit in this category."
What is MS, LJ, ES, EW? If you use abbreviations, they need to be defined somewhere.
This game seems not so compatible with newer windows versions. Are there "definite" versions that are available online? Or perhaps add-on's to original versions that makes them better to play?
I follow this game and got the notification that Molotok had beaten the WR for all missions industrial. I knew Tezur0 had also gotten it recently. Then I see that it's 5 months old? Is this correct?
Myself and Darkid encountered an interesting issue when I posted my new run on both any% and RTA (as I wanted to updated my horribly outdated RTA time). My in-game timer was 4 sec ahead of p-why's previous WR any% run, but 2 sec behind in RTA. So when I posted mine to the RTA category it was ahead. We were puzzled by this, and discovered that all categories have to either be sorted by in-game timer (IGT) or RTA. Most Braid runners care little about RTA, so after talking together, and with p-why's blessing, we decided to remove the RTA category from the speedrun.com/Braid.
We've been able to add our RTA time to our any% runs for some time now, and nobody is racing Braid atm, so we feel the category serves no purpose. One small purpose it might serve is for players who want to optimize the puzzles themselves in the game and dislike players who takes pauses in-between levels or strait up hits the menu button to take a break. To address this, we have added a rule to the any% category that players "are not allowed to idle when the IGT is not running for extended periods of time" for all runs sub 26 min. The mods will judge what time will be interpreted as "extended", but we will be quite liberate here. If something suddenly happens that won't take too long in the middle of a run, we won't reject it based on that.
Good luck on future Braid speedrunning endeavors!
