If the rule for multilogging becomes that time starts when first account creates character, I'm fine with it
My personal belief about Shield of Arrav is that if you're going to do that, the speedrun starts when the first account is created
I've also held these beliefs since like March of last year and I've definitely vocalized them before but the only person who cared about multilogging back then (phantasem) basically disappeared after a few weeks. I've also vocalized them on my stream and in my runs plenty of times since someone asks about it almost every run
I'm bringing up Sm64 because I'm really just trying to derail discussion here
The next game I was going to bring up was Pokemon Red and the Instant Text trick. It was part of Glitchless% for a while and then it was prohibited and then there was basically a new Any% Glitchless that allowed it and then they just banned it outright. And really you could discuss the merits of both sides for days, which all the top runners did in fact do. And one of the ultimate conclusions: it just wasn't fun. You would just lose lots of runs to performing this strictly fast trick and people mostly hated doing it. Doesn't matter if it was a glitch or not. Is Marowak skip a glitch? Who cares - they decided it based on preference of the runners.
tl;dr I'd rather see multilog be a new category than become "the" run
GDQ run exists if and only if we get an instanced server which I think makes it a worthwhile consideration especially in the lens where the speedrun is a finished product put together by a community
While the 'spirit of ironman' argument is not formally defined, the use of multilogging nevertheless blurs the lines between what's an ironman and what's a regular account. While Jagex has built in rules to dictate certain things for ironmen, there are arguments to be made like "well if you're picking up bones from the ground, why don't you just trade yourself the bones or loot them from someone else's chickens?" and then the slope becomes particularly slippery, because if you're willing to use assistance to acquire some items, you have to wonder why you don't just allow it for all of them and not even bother running on Ironman anymore.
voting no on this one
That said I'd like to present an idea that I think may have some extent of nuance: imagine we live in a world with instanced servers just for speedrunning. What if we allow only things that would be possible in such a case?
I think this reduces discussion to a smaller number of points.
- doors being left open for you (saves time)
- cadava/red berries already picked (loses time)
- wines - in an instanced server the shop is always stocked so this could allow for stocking them yourself. The reason I am ok with wine stocking is because it's one of the biggest nuisances in the run and prevents scalability (racing becomes like way harder for example).
Oh, okay, thanks - nice to know it's not based on actual tricks. Out of curiosity, has discussion ever come up about trying to subtract load times from the runs?
Hello, I'm interested in potentially running this game (I own the GC version) but I see that the top half of the leaderboard all runs Xbox. What version differences are there that cause this to be optimal?
So we have a "Platform" column in the leaderboard, but obviously everyone is playing on PC. So why don't we turn that column in Multilog strats? Some very popular games do this. Most notable example that pops to mind is Wind Waker with the Tingle Tuner, but even Twilight Princess has "Amiibo" as a separate thing
I'm against it because I think it kills the spirit of the run being Ironman. Tbh I'd rather run non-Ironman than use these strats. If I'm going to multilog, I'd at least like to go /really/ fast
Yeah, but how do ironmen get their hands on stamina pots?
I'm not a fan of Shield of Arrav, personally. I don't really do it because I don't like it and also because I personally find it to be a big inconvenience (and I don't even know how to multilog)
Also I just checked Drogo's shop, and he sells 0 Iron ore
I did a run today. Time is 2:19:30 which is better than I expected. 5 minutes can still easily come off but you could probably squeeze 10. I'm not sure if more than that is really possible, but I suck at Runescape
I am in support of a Champion's Guild category. After grinding away at a F2P Ironman Dragon Slayer attempt (for almost 8 hours), I'm going to say this: Dragon Slayer is not really feasible as F2P Ironman. It's feasible as F2P, it's feasible as Ironman, but not as both. You need to spend like 3 literal hours grinding Smithing to make your own Steel Nails, and then you're still painfully underleveled for Melzar's Maze and Elvarg.
I will work on a Champion's Guild route soon, but I am curious where you are buying the iron ores you speak of since the one shop has a default 0 stock
