Hello everyone,

We got a run submitted earlier today, that had video proof recorded with the NTR hack, which made us realize that although we've been saying for years that recording that way was not allowed, we never made a formal statement about it.

So there it is : Submitting a run completed while recording your 3DS game footage using NTR is not allowed, due to inconsistencies in load times. This includes submitting these runs without video proof.

For those who would like to submit their runs with video (whether it's to comply with video requirement rules or for personal preference) and think NTR is their only option, please know that we accept any video recorded with anything you have, as long as we can decently see what's going on in the top screen for the whole run. So we're not preventing you from submitting with video evidence, we're just making sure that the competition is fair between all runners !

That's all for today, thanks for your attention.

Good luck everyone !

Hello everyone,

I want to announce several new rules for leaderboard submissions, that will apply on August 15th. They were agreed upon months ago, but while some of them have already been in effect since, they weren't officially announced. Time to fix this.

Let's start with what is probably the biggest change : video proofs. From now on, if you want to submit a run that is under a certain time, you will be asked for video proof for it to be verified and appear on the leaderboards. These time barriers are :

  • 1:23:00 for All Cups
  • 42:00 for Nitro Cups
  • 41:00 for Retro Cups
  • 9:00 for Mushroom Cup
  • 10:00 for Flower Cup
  • 10:00 for Star Cup (Glitchless)
  • 9:30 for Star Cup (with glitches)
  • 10:00 for Special Cup
  • 8:50 for Shell Cup
  • 9:30 for Banana Cup
  • 10:00 for Leaf Cup
  • 9:50 for Lightning Cup. From August 15th on, any run under these times with no video proof will be systematically rejected. Runs that are already verified won't be deleted, of course. We're conscious about the difficulty of recording 3DS footage, so obviously it doesn't have to be a perfect 4K video with screen recorded from a capture card ; anything that allows us to see what's going on on your screen throughout the run will be enough. Recording through NTR is forbidden, though, for inconsistencies in load times. Please note that runs approaching these times with no video will also be treated with particular attention ; All Cups runs under 1:25 will now require splits to be verified, and so will Nitro Cups runs under 43:00 or Retro Cups runs under 42:00. Though track-by-track splits will be prefered, cup-by-cup is enough. And no need to provide anything extraordinary, a screenshot of your timer, a decent enough picture of your timer on your computer screen, or a splits.io file will do.

On to the second big rule, one that has already been in effect : every All Cups, Nitro Cups or Retro Cups runs now HAS TO BE SINGLE-SEGMENT. By that, we mean quitting the game between cups is now forbidden due to inconsistencies in load times between different generations of 3DS systems.

Last, not really a rule, just a "small" change on the leaderboards : runners who have 2 PBs for the same category, one with glitches and one glitchless, will now see both of these appear on the leaderboards, so that a new glitched PB will not make a glitchless run disappear, or the other way around.

That's all for today, thanks for your attention.

Good luck everyone !

There are a bunch of different topics I'd like to discuss here, so... Let's get started ?

  • 100% Areas rules clarification

A few days ago, we were routing 100% for the first Areas with qwertylool, and we noticed that the rules were quite unclear, especially about whether you have to respect some kind of puzzle order in the area (past Area 01, we can't really talk about an order since there are always puzzles that are out of the way to the next area) or if you could do the puzzles in whatever order you want. That might not seem very important, but it determines how you can plan your support Pokémon route, and that can cause major differences and time saves/losses. So, do we have to go to the end of the area first by following some kind of any% path, then complete the other puzzles, or can we go for whatever order we like ? (Timing rules should be changed to "timing starts at "Start!" on the first puzzle, and ends when the last mission is validated on the last puzzle" no matter what)

  • What's the point of 100% ILs ?

I don't remember when or why 100% ILs were added, but I don't really see how they can be considered relevant. You just complete the level but you have to do a bunch of extra random useless stuff. Unlike for Areas in which you always add extra levels compared to Any% (except for 01), I don't think that's enough to justify another category. Plus, the rules for them are the exact same as 100% Areas, so even if someone wanted do 100% IL runs (they would be first since there is currently no validated 100% IL run), they would have no indication for the timing (IGT/RTA, start and end if RTA) !

  • "All Levels" Area runs

That might seem incoherent with what I said for 100% ILs, but I think we should add an All Levels category for Area runs (except 01) and full-game runs. That means you would complete every puzzle in the Area/game without bothering with missions. I think that would be a good "halfway point" between Any% and 100% that, imo, are way too different from each other.

  • Alt World categories

As you may or may not know, Alt World levels have different missions, and especially, different LEVEL ORDERS from their Standard counterparts. And different level order often means puzzles that were "optional" in Standard become mandatory in Alt World. So, since the required puzzles in an alt world area are often different from its standard equivalent, I think adding Alt World any% would be a good idea for full game and areas that differ from standard ; also, with missions being entirely different, Alt World 100% should become a thing too, once again for both full game and area runs.

  • Areas 200% ?

With the Alt World differences explained above, and given how much of a challenge the routing for an Area 100% run is, I'd also love to have 200% categories for Areas. Routing these should be a lot of fun, and even if completing the same puzzle twice in the same run might not sound great, I still think that could be a nice addition as the "ultimate" Area category. (I didn't mention full game because noone has been enough of a madman to do a full-game 100% yet, so full-game 200% is probably not worth adding atm)

  • Murals

Please ?

  • The End

Yes, it's finally over. Congrats on reaching the end of this long ass post, thanks for reading, and let me know your thoughts about all of this :)

PS : Mods, if we agree on all or part of these changes, please give me mod, I'll do everything myself and "resign" afterwards ^^

For Danielfran's run, actual start time is at 0:06 on the video ("Start" message on first puzzle), which means the actual times are 3:04 for 100% (ending timer at fadeout was correct because we need to see missions get validates, even if the rules say to stop timer at "Clear") and 2:54 for Any% (here, stop the timer at "Clear" on last puzzle - 3:00 on the video - as mentioned on the rules since there is no need to check missions).

Mods, could you please change his times and the timing rules for 100% Area runs ? Thanks a lot o/ (or if you don't want/don't have time/don't give a sh¤t, add me temporarily as a mod so that I can do everything, and take my sword back afterwards - 3 mods are enough, no need for a 4th one ^^)
