Someone asked me about this and I did some research. Just so the information is visible to everyone:

http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=498268#498268

Basicly, you have to pass 13 days after finding the kid, then set off with the big boat. Ending 5 will then be played regardless of the affection stat, even if it's above 240 (which triggers Ending 8 normally).

Treating the other kid bad has nothing to do with Ending 5. It's all about passing time.

Hello, I'm researching this game for speedrun / TAS purposes. I'm putting all the information I can find over here:

I noticed that a few players are listed as playing on the European version. That version of the game runs very slightly faster than the American version. It may be possible to achieve an even faster time than the current WR (4m 55s 646ms).

I know 95% of the community is probably against this idea, but I'm just saying it's a possibility.

So if you ever wanted to be the WR holder of SMB1 then go for the European version :D https://www.amazon.co.uk/Super-Mario-Bros-Duck-Hunt/dp/B002XY2EJ6/ Good luck

Here is the SSBM TAS records page: http://tasvideos.org/Mugg/SSBM.html (Please ignore everything after Event Matches for now)

I'm in the middle of cleaning that page up. I included RTA records and made sure to distinguish console records from emulator records. Now I have some more questions which I posted here: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=491272#491272

Perhaps someone can answer? And you can post feedback here.

I allow Masterhand glitch in RTA because there is really only one place where it is used, in event 4. Since TAS is listed as using it I think it wouldn't be fair to ban RTA from using it. If many people dislike this idea I can change it, though.

I'm not sure I ever made a topic on this here, but maybe a site mod can review this case once and for all.

https://www.speedrun.com/dbzlog/full_game#Any

Issue 1) The game has a debug menu accessible by input code, allowing players to jump forward in the game. The only player in the Any% category right now, ultrauberness, uses it in his speedrun. I think using debug features in speedruns is illegitimate and should only be allowed if the debug features are accessed via glitches. Using a code to access the features defeats the purpose of speedrunning. The only way I can see it in a speedrun anyway is as a gimmick category.

Issue 2) The order and naming of categories is bothering me. The default board is "Any%" (which uses the debug menu) and the second board is "Any% No Map Jumping" (which does not use the debug menu). Since I think using the debug menu is too much of a gimmick and should be perceived as an exception to the normal "beat the game" speedrun definition, the order should be vice versa. The first board should be "Any%" (without debug) and the second board should be "Any% Debug".

Issue 3) The rules on the categories state that VBA 1.7 or Wii Homebrew are the only choices for emulator runs. I can't give a judgement on whether these are valid choices console-accuracy-wise but in my perception, VBA is outdated and mGBA (or Bizhawk with mGBA core) should be the only allowed choice. There are no emu runs on the leaderboard right now, so changing the rule should not be a problem.

Let me know what you think.

I was thrilled to see competition and bug discoveries recently. This led me to glitch hunt a lot. I resorted to spamming (whispering) Anerag on twitch but I think in the future I want to put everything else I find here.

I added a guide "Hotkeys", which shows all the hotkeys I could find for the different screens in the game. I also wrote about new bugs I didn't know before.

To improve the any% route further, I tested many ideas but didn't find anything too substantial. Two biggest hopes:

  1. Do Plane of Fire before going to Murmurwoods. Instead of flying 20 sec to the top of Ravenshore, you could exit palace of fire (after getting the heart), do scroll bug and die, restart the game and respawn at the top of Ravenshore. Are there any drawbacks I didn't see?

  2. Find a dungeon where you can reach coordinates close to the crystal's exit. This would allow you to directly spawn there instead of walking through the crystal. The dwarf mine in Alvar was promising but it looks like z-pos is bad. (you spawn above or below the room)

@Alpaca, how did you corrupt the map in your video?

I haven't been involved with this game for a long time now, but I shall make a small statement about version choice.

I keep backups of all versions of this game. Except 1.1.4, which slipped through my fingers before I could back it up. I could possibly make a patch program if someone teaches me. Anyway, assuming nothing else changed, the latest version 1.1.5 should be the best choice for speedrunners because it has significantly shortened the tower minigame, thus saving 30-50 seconds.

Older versions mainly focused on bugfixes and changed how or whether certain timesavers worked.

Germanymugg19915 years ago

I always found this odd. The instruction book says you can steal items by boosting into an enemy, but on my version it never worked.

Is it a version difference? I'm on PAL.

Germanymugg19915 years ago

hi, I'm planning to make a video about aoe1 glitches.

I have created this page which lists most of my findings:

http://tasvideos.org/GameResources/Windows/AgeOfEmpires.html

There are a few more things like "loading a gaia-controlled save will mess up the game", or "gaia-controlled villagers building something will crash the game", which I chose not to list. Not sure if I will include those in the video.

There are some bugs exclusive to multiplayer that I also chose not to look into further.

Let me know what you think.

I did some research lately: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=465720#465720

I didn't know someone already ran this game. That would have made my routing easier. Oh well.

I will go for a 31 minute time in the future. At least that's my plan...

About the route:

The 37 minute run in mission 5 cuts a leaf and throws it in the lake instead of sacrificing redshirt and going on. I believe the latter is faster. Other than that: I'm not sure if using rocks on the warrior twice, or using the snake is faster. And I have had trouble with completing mission 7 reliably. But I made it nearly through mission 7 at a 30 minute time and when optimizing the whole thing 31:xx seems feasible.

So I'm only familiar with Might & Magic 8 and I'm a speedrunner of that game. I found some powerful glitches recently and I was wondering if they work in MM6 and MM7 since they have the same engine (I never played those games unfortunately). Please let me know about your testing results.

  • Spell Scroll bug Use a scroll on a character while visiting a house.

  • Render bug Save the game, reload it and click on your character's portrait while on the loading screen. Then close the inventory. The game will not render the map until you move. This can lead to "item warping".

  • Exit buffer Visit a dungeon, face the exit and save (savegame 1). Do stuff. Save (savegame 2), reload savegame 1, then reload savegame 2 while clicking at where the exit was. You can now leave after having loaded savegame 2.

  • Casting spells after visiting a new area / dungeon If you bring up your spell book right after entering or leaving a dungeon, the game will not check for certain criteria (indoors, outdoors, enemies). You can cast Invisibility or Town Portal while enemies are near.

  • Item buffer Face an item, save (savegame 1). Go to a dungeon (it has to be indoors, at least in MM8). Save (savegame 2). Load savegame 1, then load savegame 2 and click at where the item was while on the loading screen. You may then collect a different item.

I'd like to show my key config, in case anyone is interested or has use for it. I used a tool to edit registry to change which key is which, so the game accepts certain keys that it otherwise doesn't. But I don't remember what the tool is called...

wr is 15.57 by keys I can't seem to be able to tell the runner's name in a submission, so that's why I'm making this thread.

Please add it to the leaderboard.

just wanted to ask is it allowed to use this? It seems that monkey 3 can only run on Windows 7 if you use this tool.

With leaderboards like Super Mario Sunshine any% normal, there are over 600 ranks and it takes a while to load in my browser. It causes streams I'm watching to freeze and most often I'm only interested in the first few places anyway, so I think it would be a reasonable addition to make it so that only the first few places are displayed, with an option to display the rest.

Looks like this game is already on speedrun.com but it's only run by one person, FedePG52. I might pick this game up too, but probably individual levels instead of full run.

I'm not content with the categorization. Including or excluding the tutorial is not a good difference between two categories. And silver cups is like a semi-100% run; I think it doesn't make much sense to have it.

So I suggest, have any% and skip the tutorial, aiming to finish season 3 (reach the "you rocked this season" screen or whatever) as fast as possible; and 100% where you aim for 100% score in all maps including the tutorial. Please consider putting individual levels too, since that's what I would be interested in doing.

Next I have to say, I found a little timesaver: You can exit the stage through the entrance door at the same time as the last trick is played and it counts the trick and the score, but you get to finish the map 1~2 sec sooner.

I'm trying to record some individual levels and upload them later. S1E1 I have 3min02sec left on the timer.

Hello skyrim speedrunners

Would it be a good category to collect all 24 stones of barenziah? I kind of always wanted to see a run of that. Basicly finish the quest No Stone Unturned. http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Stones_of_Barenziah
