Hmm, i think that dot list of which spawn set you get is a pretty handy overview for new runners unfamiliar with the worlds, so if possible just updating the requirements for spawn set 2 and 4 to what i suggested would be fine. Everything else seems to be great!

AustraliaKittaye7 years ago

@darkid, sorry if im misunderstanding, but shouldn't it be:

If you get the second-BEST spawn in B4 (but don't have the ALTERNATE spawn in A7), you have spawn set 4. and If you get the second-WORST spawn in B4 then you have set 2.

A great resource nonetheless!

This strat of placing an item a certain distance away from you (dubbed as the 'perfect item jump' according to nozu) sounds incredibly useful, and there seems to be a reasonable explanation why its more effective. (my own speculation)

A paint bucket's collider is much smaller than any other item in the game (maybe someone can prove this in the editor), and thus every paint jump might have the effect it has because the item is practically always a small distance away from you. Maybe the reason why perfect item jumps work is because you can emulate this small distance by placing it further away from you.

Now as for why the small distance actually gives you more height, who knows! Talos engine shenanigans! In any case, food for thought :D

Wow. This is incredible. I didn't even realise there were THAT many messages in the game.

Also if i'm understanding correctly, by getting a certain paint spawn (like you mention in A7 with "paint spawn 0") does that solidify every other paint spawn in the game in a consistent pattern? So for instance by getting paint spawn 0 in A7, with proper memorization you could predict where every other paint spawn in the game is. Right?

EDIT: Nevermind, saw the thread on paint prediction. With that in mind, how much time does this method save over not using paint spawn 0 (and by extension not knowing where paint spawns are)? And where does the community stand on having to create a QR code in a convenient position in A7? Doesn't this mean you REQUIRE a friend to post a message there beforehand? (Or maybe you can do it yourself, in which case it seems a bit silly that you have to do this and then restart the game before you can begin doing runs.)

Forgive my caveman questions, i've just come back from prehistoric times and wondering what advances in Talos science have been made :P

Wait, no items? As in not even a cube? Haven't run the game in many months and keen to get back into it, and looking over the forum posts it seems the community has grown and much has been discovered (which is great!) and THIS!

Sadly i can't really be bothered looking over the twitch vod mainly because its 2 hours and twitch playback is horrible for my net. Could you tell me the hardest tetrominos/most elaborate strats used in the run? Curious.

The line of code that unlocks the platform that I have doesn't work. This is what i have:

arrange MechanicPlatform # Unlock Platform

I also had this problem with the recorder, but by looking back at Haizan's splits file in Resources, I was able to see the proper line of code. For future reference, here is a list of the code for each mechanic:

arrange MechanicRods # Unlocks the Connector arrange MechanicCube # Unlocks the Cube arrange MechanicFan # Unlocks the Fan arrange MechanicTime # Unlocks the Recorder arrange MechanicShield # Unlocks the Platform

I'd appreciate an answer ASAP so i can do runs :(

UPDATE:: By checking the console after completing the sigil puzzle, i found the name of the mechanic "MechanicShield"

Unfortunately, the jump that requires the most fps is in B4 against one of the statues at a sigil entrance. It requires upwards of 300 (changing my settings from low to lowest on GPU gets me from ~240 to ~380, so it may require more). This only applies to All Sigils.

UPDATE: Jokes apparently it can be done with 200 fps or more but it is extremely difficult and the more you have the easier it is.

Labyrinth, Conservatory and Star skips, saves 6 seconds overall for Transcendence and 7 seconds for Messenger.

AustraliaKittaye9 years ago

WOW nevermind. Just found a strat that uses paint which is 2 MINUTES faster than the strat above. Messenger recorderless HYPE TriHard

I think this is even faster than the strat that uses recorder. Could be wrong though, haven't done it before.

The video below shows the route. Basically 2 techniques are used to be able to get all 3 cubes out of Floor 2 to get the star in Floor 3. EDIT: it saves around 10 minutes.

The first is a 'guided slide' that allows you to stay grounded while moving to a cube. Simply look at a cube to get the guided feet, pause the game, hold space, unpause, place the cube close enough to you so that it interupts the slide, then finally pick it back up. This will allow you to bring objects through the purple field.

The second trick is more complicated and inconsistent. I try to push the cube as close as possible to both the purple field AND the doorframe. It works best when the cube is in that snug position. Then use the doorframe as a means to block the guided jump, do the 'guided slide' technique, and hope that you teleport far enough to dodge the purple field. Sometimes you'll make it as I did in the video, sometimes the cube will be forced out of your hand but will land on the right side. Most times though the cube will be forced back indoors.

This should allow Messenger% to become shorter than Transcendence, so HYYPEE TriHard

Thanks for taking the time!

I noticed something strange with all stages in A world's paint spawns; none of them spawned for me until i went to B world and then came back. I suppose we can't use A world paint spawns then :l

AustraliaKittaye9 years ago

Wait, so you have the locations of every paint can in the game? PogChamp

I reckon screenshots for each level would be a pretty nifty resource on here to help theorise or plan route ideas :)

AustraliaKittaye9 years ago

Wait, you actually clipped through a solid, 90 degree corner? I worked out that the clip only works in the elevator and Floor 3 where we clip to the star because in those corners there is a small gap you can squeeze through, as you said.

But if you can actually clip through a 90 degree solid corner... well this raises many questions and theories.

First of all, can it be done without FF? If so, Messenger% will become less than 15 minutes and also even Eternalize% as you mentioned. I'd like to know more about how you got it to work, because everytime i've tried in the past, grabbing the object always pushed me back inbounds.

I kinda hope it isn't possible without FF, because those 2 categories above will be practically the same and very short, ending with a probably inconsistent clip. We could decide that it isn't allowed, and only an exception to the Any% category like FF is, but i cannot decide that on my own.

But yeah, so what you're saying is, that 90 degree corner where i attempted to clip through in the video is possible?

AustraliaKittaye9 years ago

The video shows a method of clipping using a combination of pause buffering, fast-forward spam and jumping.
