This doesn't prevent anybody from using the same rules on their site; anybody who has written a term paper knows it's possible to copy something without using copy & paste.

I think licensing the site is a good idea.

@Klashik I think only if you're unwilling to be open to the idea that it's NOT the WR. I guess I was saying that under the assumption that they've already looked for a better record and are willing to concede defeat if/when they are shown a better time.

I think it's fair to call it a WR, even if it's the only one. It may even stir up interest in the game/category.

They've added a "Founded by speedrun.com" to the imported rules, or at least the few games I checked this morning.

Rayquaza911 recently took the Nightmare on Elm St. record with a 17:55

...and cantoutfapme took it back today with a 17:48 right after I posted this.

You're probably right; I just think giving credit is the right thing to do, whether it's a requirement or not, and it speaks volumes about the kind of organization they run.

Yeah I'm doubtful that there's any real copyright/license issue here. It's more of a matter of respect.

To me, plagiarizing the volunteers that moderate each game shows a total lack of respect for the communities that they're trying to draw in. It's one thing to make your rules conform to the community that runs the game, it's another to plagiarize word for word.

I also wondered if they're using an application and if it may still be updating from speedrun.com or if it refreshes. If it is, it would be funny if we altered some of the rules to say something silly like "Go to speedrun.com for the real leaderboards"

I'm really saddened by how far Twin Galaxies has fallen. If this is truly happening without speedrun.com's knowledge, this is not a good way to regain respect among speedrunners.

Edit: I just ran through a few of the games I run and it doesn't appear they've copied ALL of them, yet. But it's still a pretty rude thing to do considering all the work that goes into moderating this site.

In the future, why not run the timer on your Mac? LiveSplit may not (or it might, I dont' know) work on Mac, but surely there's a timer program that will. Then you can record it all together. As far as I know, most of us are doing it this way as opposed to merging videos.

As far as merging, again, I would just suggest picking one of your systems (probably the Mac) and replay the video with a new timer running. Then you can record the video & the timer together in one new video.

Merging videos is an overly complicated solution IMO.

Here's a C&P from my chat when I split/unsplit/split again. It reset them to 0 and awarded them -- points:

@JimmyNintendo Time for this split was 3:17.15 ¤ @JimmyNintendo Top 2 ¤ @JimmyNintendo T: 335 (+185) ¤ @JimmyNintendo R: 157 (+27) ¤ @JimmyNintendo Place your bets for Yellow Planet! Best segment for this split is 3:17.48 ¤ @JimmyNintendo Time for this split was 4.18 ¤ @JimmyNintendo Top 2 ¤ @JimmyNintendo T: 0 (--150) ¤ @JimmyNintendo R: 0 (--130) ¤ @JimmyNintendo Place your bets for Yellow Planet! Best segment for this split is 3:17.48

Finally tried it out today with positive feedback from my viewers.

A couple of notes: Weird things happen to the scoring if you have to unsplit and split again.

With the Twitch delay it'd be nice to have the option to add a 15-25 second buffer so the results aren't spoiled in chat 30 seconds before it happens on stream. Something simple like !delay <milliseconds> would be awesome, if possible.

You say on the download page that scoring will be tweaked sooner or later, and I'd have to say that it seems like guessing accurately is not being rewarded as well as guessing quickly, especially when there's only small time differences between the guesses.

All in all though, I think this is a lot of fun. Thanks.

This is pretty cool. I already have a bot with it's own account; would I be able to enter the bot account's credentials instead and have the commands work under that username while I stream?
